Another small update. Had major issues with my airbrush and compressor so have had to purchase a new one. So while waiting for that, I reverted back to hand brushing and did some more work on the interior.

Installed the seats and dash and started on the side panels and roll cage:

 

 

 

Again, I had major issues with Decals for the seats. They are supposed to have carbon fibre around the back and sides, but the decals just would not play nicely and were a real struggle to get to sit right. In the end, they were left behind. I'm not sure if it is me or the kit, but I think I'll blame me.

Finished decalling the body as far as I could. The decals are actually quite poor and very difficult to get off of the paper. Some were so poor that they ended up in the trash.

Thanks for looking in Mustang. Yes, it is a nice little project and a nice change from the wingy thingy that I need to get back to.

Regarding stashes, the missus asked me to clear all of my shelves of junk which I duly did. Now she regrets it as it is full of kits Big Smile Still, as she says, it keeps me quiet.

Looks like a nifty lil' project Dave! As far as the limited stash goes I try to keep mine at around 30 or so. I had about 50+ which aint anything compared to some I've seen here and abroad. Bish and Clemens had some pretty narly stashes. Sheesh!!! I purged about 20 kits out of my stash. Some were duplicates that I had for past projects. Some I bought merely for the parts so I clipped the engines, wheels and tires out of the kits and tossed or gave away the remainder. Aircraft kits are another story though ....I keep all those! LOL

Just a small update.

Gave the body a few more coats of paint before giving it a coat of gloss:

 

Did some work on the underside:

and noticed that what I thought were ejector pin marks which I duly filled, turned out to be connecting points for one of the under side cover pieces. Should have read the instructions. Oh well, another learning experience Embarrassed

Next I thought I would have a go at decalling the body while I waited for other parts to dry and this is where my troubles began:

Now, I had left the gloss coat to dry for 48 hours and the paint did not look like it does now. However, I decided to try using Micro Set and Micro Sol (never used them before) and while the decals seemed to go on well, when I got to the number plate everything went awry. The decal kept folding up even though it was in place for a good couple of minutes.

My method was put some Micro Set on the model while the decal was in water, slide of decal, place and then brush a small amount of Micro Set over the decal. Give it a couple of minutes and then apply some Micro Sol. Would that be the correct method or have I misunderstood the instructions?

Also, would Micro Set/Sol have caused some of the paint to come away like this? It didn't look this bad before starting and I figured 48 hours should be plenty of time for the gloss coat to dry enough for taking decals, but maybe I am wrong.

Thanks for any advice you may be able to give me.

Started filling the ejector pin marks, some of them won't be noticeable once built but wanted to practice with the model filler:

Then gave it a first coat of Flat Aluminium:

 

 

I plan on giving this 2-3 more coats before adding a gloss coat. Question, can you spray acrylic gloss coat over acrylic. I seem to remember that someone said that you had to use acrylic gloss over enamel or vice versa.

Thanks Phil_H. Yes it is moulded in grey plastic so you are probably right. It's these type of things that I want to learn more about so appreciate you taking the time to answer.

The area to the right of the handle? Is the body moulded in silver/metallic grey plastic? If so, I suspect it's more a flow line rather than a seam line. If it's a flow line (ie. a concentration of the pigment in the plastic), no amount of sanding will remove it. 

In most car bodies of this type, seam lines tend to appear typically around the four corners. I'd expect to see fine vertical mould seams below the headlight & taillight areas, extending down the skirt/bumpers.

Started prepping the body and did a little research on what steps to take. On Auto Scale it was mentioned to remove seam lines and manufacturer markings as well as filling ejector pin marks and removing flash etc.

So I did notice what I think is a seam line on the body and have been at sanding it for the last half hour using 400 grit, but all I have succeeded in doing so far is causing my arm to lock up :)

How do you remove these seam lines (pics below by the door handle)?

 

 

Is it simply a case of keep at it or are there other techniques?

Took this out of my limited stash (can't believe I have a stash now - 20+).

I plan to do this OOB (not that I would know where to begin with additional detailing). I also plan to post a lot more than my previous WIP. I would really appreciate critiscms and advise along the way and for those that like adding crazy details, some pointers as to where I might do that. Not that I will be doing so on this model but to give me ideas for my next one.

I will be using Tamiya acrylics for this build as I seem to have bought the shop :)
