This is amazing work !  A pleasure to look at- a lot of memories from the 1970s- most Sandmans just had a mattress in the back- and shag pile carpet, and the obligatory bumper sticker "Dont laugh- your DAUGHTER could be inside"

    I am curious .heve you ever tried to hide the electric motor inside the scale engine and set it up so all the gear including batteries is hidden ? With the kind of work you do it would be Kick Butt !  T.B.

I do however, have my own engine that I'm working on that's a more realistic looking I think....lol!

 What are you going off about ? That car looks pretty darned shiny to me . Besides it's a very interesting vehicle . C,mon man git to the good stuff .What kind of engine are you dropping in there ?

     What irregularities ? I don't see none ! The black looks okay ta me .  T.B.      P.S. What scale did you say it was ?

its actually 1/10 scale...about 21 - 22 inches bumper to bumper...

and this is what's planned for under the hood! It's got a 540 size motor inside the engine and it's connected to a scale tranny that outputs to the transfet case the to the diffs via drive shafts...lol ! It will be RC!

Ah!

 After you finish rubbing , wash well with clear warm water and let dry. Then wipe with a damp cloth to get the water spots off if you have hard water . Dry well and clearcoat , cover and let it gas out for about 24 hours .Should be good to go then . T.B.

Yeah, you have a good lookin' build going there.

When you say "Gonna have to figure out how to tidy up the line between the black around the doors and the orange...it's not as neat as I hoped"; for such occasions (I've had, oh so, many) I use a set of artist micro ink pins. Prigma Micron :  http://sakuraofamerica.com/pen-archival  is the brand I happen to use, though I'm sure a good artist supply vendor in your local area will have a similar product.  So if you cant get the look needed with the .01mm tip try the .005mm, or….? . Can also be used to add the rubber gasket to windshield s etc.

Hey guys, another small :update:

Managed to get the fumes and roughness wet sanded out with some 2000 grit sandpaper...

Got the final coat of paint laid down then applied a few coats of clear.....

The clear has a couple of runs in it, but the paint seems fine. I will have to let the clear cure for a another week or so before sanding and polishing out the runs...

Gonna have to figure out how to tidy up the line between the black around the doors and the orange...it's not as neat as I hoped...also need to tidy up around the rear taillights....

The roof looks pretty decent though...

Anywho some pics...will try to grab some more in the morning before I head out to work....Watcha think?

I've heard of this. It's said that the toothpaste with the baking soda in it works best but I haven't used toothpaste for polishing in like..................forever. The Novus polishing system works really good for me.

 For what you're talking about with the roughness I use a set of sanding pads with grits between 3200 all the way up to 12000 grit to take care of that issue.

Hey Trini !

     Try this .Take some Toothpaste ( not tooth gel ) and put it on your fingers and gently rub the body in a circular motion .This might solve those issues and give you a pretty good shine too !   T.B.

 

so regular white toothpaste? Will I be able to apply the clear afterwards?

hey there mustang!

havent done anything more as yet... I'm actually contemplating wet sanding the body then putting another color coat on and then start to clear coat it. Last night after work I had a look at the body, no runs or any orange peel that I could detect, however, after painting the body, while it sat there on the table drying, I painted the hood and the nose panel on the same table and I think the body got some overspray on it. 

When I run my fingers along the sides I can feel particles and a certain amount of roughness. Compared to the hood which feel smooth and pretty slick. 

I don't have a lot of experience painting bodies and I have never used the Testors Lacquer System before. Any suggestions?

Man this is intense. Great work going on with this build. Whatcha gonna do with all that room inside in the back? Lots of possibilities back there.
