I will do that . It might be a while cause its deep in storage. I am still working on my workshop . When I had surgery in March it set me back months behind schedule on everything . So still trying to play catchup on everything and life things has slowed me down. I was planing on posting pics of alot of my rc collection. I have almost 100 of them . Mostly of the Tamiya origanals but some others as well. Getting the steering right was the biggest challenge to get working properly so it would run straight. I wasnt used to 4 sterring tires but I got it right with a little help from a friend of mine that is an rc mechanic. I will also have to have my loving wife help me to post pics as I am not that computer campatable. I am still old school on everything. But yes I will do that. Hope the moderators dont get upset of all the rc pics that I post.I restore them and collect them and used to race them at shows. But I also love doing the models as well. I am learning alot from everyone here on all aspects of that.

I think you did a fantastic job on it. So good that I have an rc version of that car and now want to pull it out and detail it like yours.

I took a couple of additional photos of the Tyrrell, before I dive back in to add the parts I didn't have time to add for the contest, and fix the rear spoiler.

Comparison between the P34 and the BT46B, my next F1 build.

New spoiler end plates were made with the correct horizontal ribbing pattern.

I addded the rectangular tachometer that was a feature for the 1977 cars.

In my rush to finish the model, I forgot to add the intake screens - oops.

Note missing radiator and oil lines in this underside view!

Armornut, Mustang1989, JohnnyK, Greg, and Keavdog, thank you all for the positive comments!  Building the Tyrrell was a most educational experience, proving once more that modeling can make you learn stuff.  Stick out tongue  Personally I am most interested in the science of F1, and trying to figure out what does what and where all the piping goes went a long way in satisfying my F1 curiosity.

Armornut, the rain tires, in addition to looking cool, were also a solution for the poorly molded kit front tires.  They had deep sink marks at the sprue gate, and were made from a different material than the rear tires.

Greg, the fuel lines are from Model Factory Hiro, I believe.  I'll dig out the package and take a pic.  I'll also do a how-to post on making the coil springs.  To benefit all of mankind, and all that jazz.  Stick out tongue

Mustang1989, well it goes to show how competitive automotive modeling is.  But it just makes me more determined to work on my A-game and return to the contest tables.  They have not heard of the last of me!  As comedian Stephen He said, I am A-sian, not B-sian!  Big Smile   Such emotional da~mage!  Stick out tongue

Some friends are coming over today for our monthly meeting, and one guy who built the 1976 P34 and an earlier conventional 4-wheel Tyrrell car is bringing them over for a group photo. I'll post it as well as additional pics of my car before and after tweaking it and adding all the missing equipment.

Model on boys (and girls)!  Yes

I think you did an excellent job Neal, from your photos compition was very high, just putting something on the table is noteworthy. BTW LOVE the rain tires.

THAT............didn't place? Are you kidding me? What beat this out?

Tremendous build IMO as you've spent alot of time on this car in terms of paint, decals, details and construction. Your efforts are to be commended bud. I would like to see some more pictures of it if you've got 'em.

The results of your build are super nice. I built that model a couple of years ago. I really enjoy building big scale models. Lots of fun.

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

Fantastic!  This is 1/20?  Detail level of the 1/12.  Just gorgeous.

Saw John's post above just as I was ready to reply. I had to go back to page 1 to check the scale. I thought this one was 1/20 but going by your pics, it truly does look like the 1/12.  .....hence the 'me too' post.

I'm sorry if you already told me, what what did you use for those fuel lines? They look extremely convincing and I'd like to have some material on hand.

Sorry it didn't place, but it's awesome far as I'm concerned. Hard to believe you started this 4 yrs ago knowing zilch about F1.

Okay I can finally post pics of the sorta finished Tyrrell.

The new windows were fitted from the outside.

My first attempt at a racing harness.

The front tires needed their logos repainted, as they had scuffed rolling around in the box.

The model went to the contest "as-is":

I ran out of time, so the radiator and oil lines did not get installed!  Same thing with the trumpet screens.  Embarrassed

Ha ha ha ha ha ha Greg, the cooties travel all over the place!  Sorry you were influenced to get the Tyrrell.  I'm such a naughty boy.  I bother the other kids and distract them.  It's true.  It says so in all my report cards in elementary school!  Stick out tongue

Well, the Tyrrell P34 is such a cool looking car, I'm sure you will have a blast building it.  Safe travels!

I see. I wasn't aware of the hotel California and I just checked into it. Looks like fun. Had wrongly assume that you were staying at the convention hotel but you already figured that out.

So know that I got a 10% off email from hobby Link Japan and before I left I just ordered the  2/12 Tyrell 6-wheeler. It's all your fault, G.

Like you, I've all of a sudden become pretty interested in these F1 cars. They're really cool.

Greg,

We are at the California, where all Hawaii residents stay, or so it seems!  Good grief there are a lot of Hawaii people running around here.  And "mahalo" and "aloha" are plastered everywhere!

You have fun as well, and win the Big One for the team!

Lurch,

I have to confess my model was far from perfect.  The car modelers all say finish is everything.  I knew my finish was not perfect, but it was MUCH worse than I thought!  I am a military modeler, so I have gained a tremendous amount of respect for the car guys and their meticulous body prep/paint work.

Also, in my hurry to get the model done, a lot of things went wrong.  My rear spoiler was crooked due to a problem with the uprights.  They fit perfectly during tests, but something happened when the glue went on.  And then the oil cooler got pushed off its mount. I plan to remove the spoiler to realign it, and investigate what was clashing with the oil cooler.

I will need to add the radiator and oil lines that I didn't have time to install. The intake trumpet screens were not put on because I forgot them outside after painting them!  And lastly, I went  to the trouble to make a decal but forgot to put it on.

But all this has taught me a lesson on what it takes to build a car model.  I am determined to improve and get back into the mix!  Brabham BT46B suction fan car here I come!

Duster,

Nope sorry, didn't even place!  I must now do pennance and sequester myself to reconnect with the Dark Forces of the universe.  Or I could cry on my pillow tonight.  Or I could just buck up and remind myself that's what happens when I procrastinate!  I think I'll go with the last one.  Big Smile

Well, I WAS playing in someone else's backyard.  I'm not a car modeler, so I still have much to learn.  That is the way.  As a well-known Austrian cyborg from the future once said "I'll be back."

Oh, and pics to follow.  But my eyeballs are sore and I am headed to bed now.

The IPMS Best of the West is happening at the Orleans Hotel in Lost Wages today. The Tyrrell is sorta finished and ready to go.  At least I didn't do any construction in the hotel room!

Crash course building the kit taught me a lot about the ins and outs of F1 modeling, which will be applied to the Brabham BT46B "suction fan car" for the F1 GB.

Even though it was frustrating to cram together the Tyrrell, my love for 1970s era F1 machines is stronger than ever.  I think I'll watch "Rush" when I get back home.

I am doing it to myself again - less than 24 hrs to flying out and here I am madly dashing along.  I hate myself at times.  But I suppose it is the only way to force myself to do new things nowadays.

No photos as we are in the "blackout" phase (i.e. no proper computer), but I added a seat harness for the first time and am piping up the engine.  I also cut some windows and fitted them from the outside.  I am having problems running the front wheel cooling hose, as it wants to kink.

Well, no sleep for me tonight lads!  I'll pack in the morning.  And photos of the (hopefully) completed P34 as well as a report from the IPMS Best of the West will follow.  Now where was that can of pure liquid Schwarz...

A busy weekend:

Got the shocks built up, along with hoses for the front brakes.

The yellow brake lines are in place - and lend a nice splash of color.

Banging together the engine, as well as test fitting the spoiler supports.  It's a good thing I checked too, as the part at the end of the transmission was slightly skewed and needed to be pushed slightly away from the tranny before the spoiler supports would fit and set straight.

Argh, painting the PE went badly, AND the reinforcing strips that go on the front spoiler were too long.  So...  I had to cobble substitutes up using sheet plastic.

I feel better now though.

And now a sneak peek with it all loosely set in place.

Oops, I just noticed the rain tires are on backwards!

Real G
I'm trying to get the model done for the Best of the West contest in Lost Wages next week Saturday, so apologies if I begin to sound incoherent.

Begin to?
