Looking good Doog! I don't know about any tips I could give but go over to Scale Auto Magazine (sister mag to FSM) and on the forum topics "other models". There's a thread on there about junkers and beaters. It's about 21 pages long with lots of pics. Some are very cool! Looks like yours is coming along nicely!

Its looking good, the seats look like ripped vinyl to me. You know one thing you see on 1-1 junkers that I've never seen on a model is nests. All kind of animals like to set up house in old cars, rats, ground squirrels, birds etc. It would be kind of neat to see a nest in there somewhere, maybe a little rodent head peaking out.

If it turns out 1/100th as well as your January featured "SPOOKED" did, you are well ahead of the game. I have to tell you, I enjoyed that article and build of your very much. Very impressive.

Rust on the dashboard!!! I had an OLD Chevy Nova SS that had rust on the dashboard because all the dashes were metal (ouch)...You may want to look at putting some rust on the inside of the windshield...That would be pretty cool.

Thanks, ogrejohn--I've been over there, and on that thread already; it IS very cool, and some great models too! I've been reseaching more than building here lately, trying to get details correct. I found this MASSIVELY EXCELLENT site on a 56 resotred Nomad from ground up that gave me everythng I need! I should be smacking it into overdrive here soon! Big Smile [:D]

Aaron-- I agree the nests and stuff--actually I've benn looking for some 1/24/25 rabbits to put in the scene, or perhaps a lazy doog to lay around; kinda an "angle" I'm working for the scene....Whistling [:-^]

Reload--thanks so muchfor the compliment on "SPOOKED!"; I'm glad you enjoyed the article! I'll settle for this, my first "junker" to come out 1/10th as good as that dio!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

kenny and bostonbruin--thanks, and I plan to weather the interior pretty well too.

I'll try to get some pics up soon--not much more done, but at least I want to show some progress! Thanks again, guys! Big Smile [:D]

SImply Outstanding Work Thumbs Up [tup] That torn up seat is Fantastic, I remember an old chevy truck on the ranch that had the Prototype seat of yours. Had a saddle blanket to keep the ends of the springs from poking ya. Are you going to put a Rats nest in the Glove Box ? Just looking at what you have done so far brings back the smell of those old musty , dusty forgotten cars we played in. Cowboy [C):-)]

Wow, doog.  I like what you've done so far.  And I cant say anything either, I have 2 cop cars on my bench right now, right next to an LAV and a plane.

I like it so far . A neat little trick for the ripped seat is to insert some fine scouring pad or very fine horse hair from undeneaath and also add somme coiled wire the effect looks great

That's actually No. 28 soft steel wire, Summit--I just driled out tiny holes, dipped a length in thick super glue, and inserted them into the alternator. The nice thing is, the wire is really easy to bend around the engine block. Get it at the hardware store!

I was actually thinking about putting a tissue paper blanket laying over one of the seats...?

A "rat's nest"? Hmm...probably just papers and such. I am trying to find some Preiser 1/24 Rabbits, but they're out of stock everywhere I've looked!

I've thought about the seat thing--these seats had not coils but wavy lines of metal under the seat foam. I'm going to add foam to it, but I have to wait until I paint it.

Thanks for your comments guys! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

My onlu suggestion, and I'm actually pleading this.  PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE, don't make the mistake other people do, and make an otherwise outstanding model look like a toy or a diecast, by mucking up on the hinges, so the doors open incorrectly.  Set the hinges up so the leading edge of the door folds INTO the body instead out swinging out and away from it, like a trunk or a hood.  You can use the same design of hinge, just shrink it, and then swap it's mounting points.

Don't worry, fantacmet--I plan on laying one door on the ground, and the other just cracked open--I'm not going through the engineering nightmare of building actual latches; I simply don't have the skill, nor do I want the doors propped open like a show car. There are NO latches of any sort in this kit, save for the hood.

I WILL simulate the latches as they stick out of the door, and put the holes in the interior walls where they should be, but I'm not going to "open" them per se! I know there's a Nomad kit out there with working doors and all that, but this one isn't it.

You don't have to engineer latches.  The best way is amazingly simple though.  Pin head for the door jamb, just a piece of plasitc on the door that looks like a latch that will slid over the pin head(I can get photo's of this on a model), as for the latch itself, use a couple of tiny magnets one inside the door the other inside the body.  LOL.  Yeah no reason to do that on your project.  Iw asn't thinking latches though, just hinges.  :P  There is something in an issue os scale auto from this last year, that could add some absolutely wesome rust cancer effect to the body, I can either explain it or try to dig up that issue for you, if you are interested.  It takes alot of extra work but the effect is incredable.  Not sure how far you want to go on this.

*EDIT*

One other thing, asie from it looking good.  I've seen article/tutorials you've done for the mag.  You do well and I can follow them.  I've seen all kinds of tutorials and such showing how to do the doorjambs and whatnot, but they all seem to be rather vague.  Think you could do one?  I've tried to do it and have ended up with plenty of kits turned into massive parts boxes.  Just because I can't build the door jambs and such.

Wow, Bow [bow] that is looking incredible. My only suggestion would be add some rot or rust holes to the rocker panel. (area under the door in case you were thinking the radio Big Smile [:D] )This area was always prone to rust.

For some modelers, they have a gift. You are one of those. Beautiful work, the whole care is looking great but I just love the way you have done the seats. Make a Toast [#toast]

Most interesting technique indeed. Thanks for that. My wife is gonna wonder where her hairspray went!

Would this work on Corvairs, too, or just Nomads? Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]

Mark you might want to check with Ralph Nader first ...

Doog ~ Simply Outstanding, The text and pictures make this so easy to follow. No Gray areas at all.  Man that Nomad looks just like the ones I remember hid behind barns and out in pastures in Colorado, paint and surface rust wise. Thumbs Up [tup]Thumbs Up [tup]

Steve stole the only word I can think of to describe those results.  Can't wait to try it on something-- anything.  I wonder if this would work to simulate paint worn off a wooden floor......I smell an idea....To the bench!

Hey guys, thanks a lot for the enthusiastic responses!  I do appreciate the "props"! Big Smile [:D]

Modelnerd--this wil work with Corvairs, Corvettes, Cadillacs; whatever ya got in the stash! It also works with brunette or blond hair too--you can just about use Aqua Net Extra Super Hold for model glue if you want! LOL! Laugh [(-D]

(Just please, don't abuse any old Mustangs in this manner! Sigh [sigh]Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg])

Summit--cool! I was hoping someone said that it looked "real"--that's the best thing a modeler can hear! Wink [;)]

 kenny and Steve--thanks, guys!

Ian--if I know you, you'll take this toot and run with it and post some amazing new model over there in armor, beating me to using it on a panzer--hey, GO FOR IT! Bow [bow]

ruddrat--what's a "dog"?!? LOL!!!! Laugh [(-D] Thanks for the Thumbs Up [tup]'s!

Thanks again, guys--next update will be the interior weathering and maybe some rust effects on the outside--depends on what I have going on here. My "real life" vehicle just blew the fuel pump, if I'm correct! Boohoo [BH] Man, there goes the tax check! Sigh [sigh]Banged Head [banghead]
