Academy Honda CR250R Motocrosser__W.I.P.

This is the Tamiya "clone" of the 1981 CR250R. I got it for $10 off Ebay, I wanted the Tamiya but it's 3 times as much money. I have been working on it for a couple of months on and off when I find the time. I'm trying to make it look like a Factory "Works" bike of that era. It has turned into alot of work, but I've learned some new stuff and it has been fun(at timesSmile [:)]).

Thanks for looking and all comments welcome.

Just build it (and post pics when youre done)

I'm jealous! I've been practically begging anyone who would listen for models of dirt bikes for years!

This looks cool! I wish they'd make a Suzuki RMX-250 model! Whistling [:-^]

That looks awesome so far!

Looking very good so far, I will watch this one with interest. You seem to have added some fantastic detail already.

Honda CR250R __W.I.P. *Update-3-28*

Thanks guys for the kind comments! I'm with you doog and daywalker, somebody make some new off-road motorcycle models!?!Thumbs Up [tup] Bushpig thank you also, this is my second bike model. Still kind of learning how to put these things together and the best order to paint and glue.

Here are a few more pics with the tank and seat temped on. I'm trying to update the seat by lengthening the front to tank area and redoing the radiator shrouds.

I'm also working on the pipe to give it the handmade welded look rather than the stock stamper.

The rear tire/ wheel is from my first moto build almost 20yrs. ago. It's the Tamiya CR250 version with the alumachrome finish. The Academy comes with shiney chrome wheels, which I stripped and then cut-out the spokes and relaced the wheels with .020" styrene rod. That took some time. I'm not done with the Academy rear wheel yet.

Again thanks for looking and all comments welcome Smile [:)]

BBRRAAAAP!!! Tongue [:P]
COOOOL!!!!! I agree--makes me wanna RIDE!!

Looking excellent, man! Good job on those spokes! (I just did a REAL rear rim lace-up this winter on my RMX250; sheesh, it's even LESS fun in real life!Wink [;)])

You could put some thin stretched sprue around the welds of the pipe, and then after softening them up with liquid cement, scribe weld marks into them to look like welds; we do that over in armor quite a bit--that might give you what you are looking for in terms of the aesthetics of the pipe?

I'm jealous! I want this kit to build too! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Everytime I read that it makes me miss my good old '82 air-cooled KX-250. Sigh [sigh]

Hey Bushpig, I'm trying to find/collect the decals I want to put on it. I'm also reworking the side panels/numberplates to update their look. In another thread I posted, I'm adding a rider figure.

Thank you for your intrest man, I enjoy looking at those GP bikes you buiild! Bike models are somewhat of a different animal to build, everything shows in such high detail.

Take care sir.
