Reminds me of U-control flying days. Put a large enough engine and anything will fly.

I hand drew a pinstripe withan ultrafine marker but that was 1/32. I couldn't imagine doing that on a 1/48. Like John said, there may be some decals if you were intrested.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

That really came out great. Still not sure how that thing flew.

Looks good, Don. I would imagine that unless the pinstriping were perfect it would detract rather than add to the model. And white is aalmost as unforgiving to work with as natural metal if you try to fix goofs. Maybe a decal for the black would be easiest.

Finished!
jeaton01 Looks good Don. I think I'm going to stick to 1/32 for this bird, if only to help with the pinstriping.

I did not do the pinstriping. When looking at photos with about the same viewing angles as a scale viewing distance I could not see the stripes. 32nd scale may be different.
Great job Don.
very nice Don! I have always wanted to build one of these.

Hi Don;
Looks good ta me!
Got the rigging done. Used fine monofilament. Job was easier than I expected. Not very visible, so you may need to click on picture for a larger image.
Oh man, your giving me nightmares about my Gee Bee, but yours is smaller!.
I'll need to build a Z later this year
Don!
When you are working on those pants- Remember to get the crease straight-LOL!LOL!
I have always admired those who stuck it through on this little Bird. My hat is off to you !
Got the red on.I applied tape to the areas to be masked, then used the kit masks to cut the tape. l I had some leakage around front of wheel struts which I will have to touch up. l also did not mask the wheel pants- the curvature is just too great for masking tape to stick well, so I will hand paint the front of the pants.
Nice job Don. That's a little thing.
Got what I hoped would be the last white coat on. Turns out there are some bad spots on right wing. Sanded them out and hope I can mask off rest of plane and just redo that wing. The picture is too dark- the paint really is white.
The cowl is done and ready to install, as is engine. That engine came out real nice. I did add plug wiring.
seastallion53Are there masks for the scalloped paint job?
Yep. Hope they are better than the canopy masks. These were extremely small, however, so I expect the big scallop masks will work fine.
Speaking of the canopy, I realize now that that tiny canopy is what made the GeeBee look so big. I think we often scale, in our mind, an aircraft size from the canopy. But that canopy on the GeeBee is tiny. The pilot does not get in and out through a movable canopy- there is a door in the side. The pilot's head just fits up into that canopy.
That is a great job with the details.
Nick.
Buckeye2 I think this one would test my patience! Will be a fun one to follow along. Mike

It is small, too- even in 1:48! It was a small racing plane. It is only that huge round engine that makes it look bigger.
Started on the Dora Wings GeeBee. Given to me by a fellow modeler as an Xmas present. The kit is certainly detailed nicely, but the full size plane was not very large, so even in 1:48 this kit is a test of finger dexterity!
The cockpit detail includes the tubular framework. The longerons and braces are maybe 040, being generous, and there are several sections of longerons ending in dimples on the formers. The pins on the ends of the longerons are about 20 mil in diameter, and the same in length. I had a lot of sections fall off as I did the next section.
The fuselage does have the tubing frame and formers in the cockpit area, but not the stringers that fair out the covering to the section of the formers. These small stringers should be visible on the inside of the covering. I cut pieces of 1/32 trim tape and painted them Testors Wood. I had to cut the tapes a bit on the short side, since the formers fit into grooves in the fuselage sides with a very close fit (they'll sure stay in place well, even if the longerons don't.
