Doog:  The "how-to" reply I got from that guy on filters was just what I needed.  Thanks for checkin' in though.  I just finished the photos of the Krupp and dumped them in photobucket. I actually have three new projects to post, I'll try to do it tonight.

Awhile back we talked about painting figures...check out the dudes when I post the new pics.  I've improved on the uni's with my washes, especially on the Krupp scene, but my faces are still weak.  I need a good resource, any experience with FSM's book "Painting Realistic Military Figures?  Heard of it?.  I'm even thinking a book on just painting faces might help...suggestions.

Noticed you are from NY.  I have a small place I go to up in Schroon Lake in the Adirondacks...In fact I was just there about 2 months ago.  Know where that is?  Any Modeler clubs you know of in that area, probably would be more towards the Glens Falls/Queensbury area.

I wrote down your photobucket site, I'll go check it out sometime soon.

Hey SMJ, thanks for weighing in! Welcome back to the forums, man! And conratulations on the trophies at the contests! Make a Toast [#toast]

I looked at your thread there, and have to say that I can't add much more than that link that one guy there provided. That was pretty complete as far as a "how-to' article!

It'll be good to see some of your stuff up here if you get the time! Big Smile [:D]

Hey doog, long time no correspondence on the Forum.  I've been doing a lot of building lately, your tips were helpful.  I took a best of show in Reno for my Stug III.  Just took two firsts in a Sacramento competition...soft-skin with a Krupp Protze and armor with that same Stug III. I'll try to figure out the Photobucket thing again and get them posted...stretched the insanity of building limits by making a set of snow chains for the Krupp from a woman's necklace chain. I look forward to your input, keep an eye out for them in the armor section.

You sure are flexing your modeling muscle lately!  I like Jenn's present! Looks like a fun diversion from the Panzers.  Saw your work in FSM too...actually I saw your bio photo first and noted that it looked familiar...tied it back to the Forum.  That build "spooked" me a little too.  Weathering is a tough...burned out armor...BRUTAL.

I have a post in techniques/painting...on filters, go take a read...could use your expertiseBow [bow]

Doog,

That's just way too cool!  Only if someone sell models of Gucci or prada products, I'd build something for my wife.

Thanks Manny! Yup--I airbrushed their faces and hands with a mix of Tamiya acrylics, hit 'em with a wash of Burnt Sienna oils, and painted the rest with acrylic craft paints: hair, lips, teeth, etc.

Definitely a fun build....but I don't think I'll be building the whole line! There's an actual band you can get to go with this guy! LOL!

I like it....did you airbrush some of the flesh tones?  The dude sorta looks like a young Mick Jagger...

Thanks, and thanks too, Christian! Perhaps you should try making your wife a model of her favorite subject? I do a couple horse-themed projects every year for Jenn; this one was really a complete change-of-pace!

I'm also working on a midieval tournament diorama for her right now...Smile [:)]

Very nice models and extremely funny....really different than Panzers...Smile [:)] I enjoyed a lot the pose of the girl...Whistling [:-^]

If I dare to give my wife such a present for Christmas, I would have to run very very fast....Whistling [:-^]

She immediately becomes sick when she hears about modelling....Black Eye [B)]

I really wonder why? Whistling [:-^]Big Smile [:D]

I like very much how you painted their mouths and teeth and also giving them a gloss appearance I thik it was a great idea.

Jenn's Christmas presents, part I
Posted by the doog on Thursday, December 6, 2007 5:31 PM

Hi guys; taking a break from the panzers for a month or so while I work on some Christmas presents for Jenn...she saw this up at the LHS and went nuts for it...(I can't imagine why?!!Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg])

It's a Aurora-esque figure set of "The Frantics" line. Weird, but fun to build!

Here's the box...excuse that paint stain...get the line on the bottom of the box about the "screamin Meemies and the two legged model of Fort Knox and the security gaurd"!?!?! Laugh [(-D] Man, that's gotta be that weird, hilarious Chinese mistranslation stuff!

starting out with the construction and painting basics...these were less-than-spectacular in the "fit" department--lots of BIG gaps to be filled, and MUCH tedious sanding with needle files and emery boards...

I decided to do something different here with the faces--to paint them with airbrush. The base coat is a mix of Tamiya Dk Yellow, White, and Red.

The rest was painted with Craft Store paints...

...and here's the finished product--I decided to hi-gloss 'em, so the dust wouldn't stick, and to give them sort-of a "ceramic" look.

It's an accurate depiction; the model, I mean...if you know what I mean! Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]Laugh [(-D]
