Below: How the chairs look.

Below:

Shapeways, the same place I purchased the Icarus from sell ships chairs in the same scale. This saved me from scratch building the chairs. You can see the shaping I did by comparing the chair on the left. Also, not seen in the image I have sanded the chair backs so that they are flatter.

Below: I used Evergreen 1mm half round stock to simulate the rolls. This is the most I will do on these chairs in terms of mods. I need to clean them up more and then paint.

End of upate.

Well my friend--freezing comes with the top tier Apes Package. However--you are a faithful follower/poster of this thread... so, at no additional cost to you--Stick out tongue--I'll upgrade your pass to include a sleep chamber. That said--don't be like Timmy and worry about not waking up. These are state of the art and you have a 1 in 4 chance of that ever happening. As you see--your odds are pretty good to survive.

Never fear--Smith is here.

Btw, I will note a few things about the chairs. Afterall, this is a WIP... I think, and I might as well celebrate another thing done.  Surprise

1.  In the image below you can see that the movie prop had the chairs with a round chrome base. I thought I should mimic those to some degree, so, I lopped off everything below the seat and built up from there.

2. I had a tough time finding something that would match the diameter and thickness of the base. In the end, I settled on some scrap that mimic, at best. The scrap that I found are shaped like a collet, and they are used below a ships gun turret allowing the gun to rotate. I removed the upper collar and this left me a flat disc. I sanded, shaped, and then drilled a hole in the center allowing for styrene rod to connect to.

3. I drilled a hole into the underside seat cushion (not all the way through), thus providing the other connection point.

4. Using Evergreen styrene rod I connected the base to the seat using CA glue.

5. I painted the base using Molotow Liquid Chrome. This is the first time that I worked with this and it’s pretty amazing stuff. It produces a highly reflective shine, and it’s the closet thing to painted on chrome that I have tried. I flowed the liquid on using a flatted hobby stick. Best results come from heavy application. From what I have gathered, you must let the stuff cure AT LEAST a week before touching it, or you risk marring the finish. I will wait at least two weeks. Also, using clear coats are said to deminish the chrome effect.

6. The aluminum arms are painted with Alclad Aluminum and all black are with using Tamiya gloss black sealed with a mixture of 90% Testors Flat and 10% Testors gloss, roughly.

7. I used epoxy to blend the seat rolls to the back of the chair, sanded, and then shaped.

I think that is about it. They are loose representations of the movie props, and that suits me fine.

Next up is to fabricate the interior.

I do get a private freezer right??? I like Timmy and all but I'm not sure I want to spend the next 300 years frozen to him. If I should croak I don't want to be tossed out the airlock frozen to him until the universe dies either....

BTW: The seats sound good! Looking forward to more photos!

Yeah man—I totally get your concern. And then one day the USS Enterprise will find you two like the crew of the SS Botany Bay. Well—it could be an awkward moment. Or maybe some Klingons will use you two for target practice. One never knows.

No—rest assured that when your sleep chambers fail, I mean if they fail—you’ll have your own pod chamber that we can eject out of the ship. We’d give you quite a send off too, ceremonies and all.

But hey—that’s all just talk because your chamber should (cough) hold together. Yes

Not at all. I threw you a curve ball with that original post. You are used to seeing my long posts explaining things. Instead, I gave a one-word post, Done.

I created a disruption in the Force, a sort of ripple in time and space.

Dunno, at the office, the rado station is (boss instructed) stuck on a station whch plays mouldy oldies, so I get to hear D_vil Went Down to Georgai twice a day, along wth four Madonna songs, an array of Freddy Mercury and Elton John tunes--basically the same hundred songs.  Every. Day.  Sigh.

At least the chairs look good.

Capn, I think I know that station. Our office is in a converted warehouse, lots of metal in the ceiling that kills radio signals. My radio pulls in one station and I consider myself lucky because most can’t even get one. I had to hang wires off the antenna, position it just right, and if the weather is good I will get an oldie station. Though I do like oldies, especially Motown, too much of any one thing will drive you bonkers. Indifferent

Thanks about the chairs.

, I think I know that station

Which would not be a huge surprise it's on of the "nationally programmed" stations, where they basically have a pandoarstyle pre programmed list, with off-channel cues for local radio ads, and the occasional live dj chatter (which is pretty much limited to morning and evening drive time).  All else is programmed in, and the same on every station of the 80-200 that the programming goes outon.  Sigh.

They broke pattern today, and plaed Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto.  Sigh.

Good news--I'm spared the moldy radio for four days; that to go get cataract surgery tomorrow, though.  But, I cherish every day away from the songs I didn't much like when they were released 20 and 30 years ago.

Give me a hillbilly versoin of Thnderstruck any day Smile

And, apropos of the season (and a song whose lyrics I have lived out):

So let me ask you -- what about Cyndi Lauper? Hear any of that? LOL.

You REALLY ARE tired of it if you are celebrating absence through surgery!  I hope it all goes well for you.

I love the video and the music style, and yeah, apropos for the season. Thanks for sharing that. Yes

It's funny because seeing that video reminds me of another music that I love. Heck--when I think about it, I like a lot of different types with an exception of just a few.

Several years back I attended a Tall Ship Festival in a town called Port Washington, and they would bring in local music artists to entertain the folk. It so happened a guy named Matt Tyner was playing and wow, this guy was talented. He could play guitar like nobody's business. He could sing too. His music was a mix of blues, rock, and honky tonk. I was toe tapping and head bopping all the way through. Sadly, the tall ships stopped coming and the festivals became a sad reflection of their former glory.
