Ah Well! 

 I guess it's Better late than Never! Ridgid Rider if you're still out there, thanks for a very interesting journey with Wall-E! I re=read this and also re-viewed the movie. Still one of the funniest points in the film!

I never commented on this and never realized that there was a thread for it. What a great build by a fantastic guy and builder.

I found out a couple of days ago that Doug...aka Rigidrider passed away in December of 2019. A great person and a really good friend of mine here on this forum. I kept in touch with him through email mostly and we had a great friendship.  I'm gonna miss you brother.

Thanks Rinny... Like I said,  I  just retired, and have plenty of time to experiment with different styles and techniques now. Definitely stepping out of my box. Yeah , the bra scene was one of our favorites ... Thanks again...

Utterly fantastic! I really love the funny touch with the bra! You really surprised me with that Finishing Touch! It's been a joy to peek in here and watch your progress over the past few weeks. I look forward to seeing many more cool projects from you. As a budding scratch Builder myself, I am in awe of your Ingenuity through this project.

Cliff, Thank you! Yeah the one thing I learned long ago was that, You can build a beautiful model , I mean one without as much as one finger print in the glue somewhere,(grin) and you've built a beautiful model. BUT... Put it on a dio base with detail around it, and you'll bring it to life! Thanks again for the numerous comments and encouragement. Take care.

John, Clint... Thank you both ever so much... It means alot comin from your peers, and yes, it actually took me awhile to go in and ask for a bra!  I kept thinking I should wait for my wife but hey...I was there! Lolol... I did show the lady a picture of what I was doing and she just laughed and said what you did... I need to watch that again! Lol...

Pawel... Thank you sir, yes, the cover is going to be trim wood frame with plexi glass windows. I'm also going to put two small LED lights inside being the top will be thin opaque plastic.

A plexiglass cover would definitely help here, also to keep the dust off.

I was in engineering school too. I was also a lazy bum, and since I could not learn calculus and chemistry without actually studying, I changed my major to something I could B.S. my way through.

Lol...I at one time after serving in the USMC  (71-75) started taking mechanical engineering classes in college, but had a few set backs at that time that made going on difficult, and decided to go in a different direction. I later settled into a career in hydraulics, pneumatics and fluidics, which as you know I recently retired from.The grand daughters are likely to get him after Grand dad isn't here any longer.lol... Right now hes sitting on a roll top desk I made about 10 years ago. As to the dimensions his main body is approx. 8in X 8in square and he stands about 15in tall. The base he's on is 18 x 21 in. I figure (not knowing the true dimensions) that he might be about 1\4 scale? I am making a cover to go over the Dio to help fend off the curiosity attacks from our two cats, lol...so until that's done, the door to the den stays closed!

What are the dimensions of the base? I'm trying to get an idea how big this is (dunno how small the bra is, so that won't work)

Will this be on display at your house or will you give it to your granddaughter? Has she seen it during construction?

Well Good morning all! I think I can call him done. I worked on the dio for the last two days and finished final assembly last night.

His cooler is made from .010 plastic sheeting, and is trimmed with several other Plastistruct shapes and sizes of plastic. The "junk" is the remains of the toys I disassembled to get to the parts needed to build him, :rusted" and glued to the dio base.

Well, thats about all... I want to again, Thank each and every one for the interest, the views, and the comments. Its been a fun and different building experiance for me. Between Wall-E here, the new SF/Fantasy issue of FSM, and Pacific Rim Uprising I pulled out my Plamax Gypsy Danger kit...... just what I need is to start yet another project...

Evening all! Hope everyone had a good weekend! OK, I was able to do some more today..

These will be the pieces of his hands. The material is the .220 and .093 plastic taper sanded (along with a tad bit of skin) on the belt sander. Then for the pivots I used a 1/4 in plastistruct tubing. The small pieces of tubing are going to be spacers, and the small bean shasped pieces will connect his "Thumbs" to the hand assy.

This is roughly how they will look when together.

And lastly for now, the clevises are attached to the rod ends. When they set, I'll assy the hands to them and paint a kinda rusty steel color. After that, all I have left is to mount the neck and head, and make him a dio, and I think he'll be about done. Give me a day or two and I'll try to get that done! Thanks...

LOL... Yeah Cliff, Hes a might rough, But I guess not too bad for 700 yrs old! lol...

Any way, I finished the arms today, and as always was a tad slack taking some pictures. I can see the end of this build coming and am starting to forget pictures... BUT, heres what I have today...

OK, the sides (flats) are attached. The hardest thing I've done so far (I think) is the little piece that mounts to the rod with a bit of yellow on it to mount the flat plate to, (its called a stand off) gave me fits. I was cutting and shaping the piece then trying to drill hole for rod and would either drill ogff center or break. Well after doing about 4 sets the light finally came on... DRILL FIRST then shape...DUH! 

Well, my apologies but befor I knew it they were done, painted, aged and weathered and mounted.

The "chrome" of the rods is chrome foil from the local hobby shop, The gland rings "wipers" are just regular ole  o-rings. And thats where we're at for now... The hands will be next... Thanks for looking and have a Blessed Easter weekend!

Oh wow, love that rusty look. Looks like you could get tetanus just from handling him.
