The life monitor decals went on without a hitch and I really like how they turned out. 

While I was at it--the chairs are installed using CA. I first drilled small holes into the floor just underneath the chair mounts. My hope is that the CA will latch into the holes. I don't want those chairs coming loose as I work on the exterior. Btw... in the last image you can see how the chairs block the instrument panels. The best view will be through the airframe windows and that is limited as well.

Next up are the glass panels. I hate how the clear styrene I used distorts things. I sure wish I could have found slide glass material large enough. Like what Capn alluded to, that stuff is the bomb. (The covers)

Hey thanks Greg, Cliff, and Mark!

It is good to see this project at this point. It has been a slog. Very soon I will be working on the airframe, and that should go much faster. I can't wait for that.

Your patience, planning and perseverance really paid off.

Bakster: Ohhhhhh, the beds look good. Really like the decals on the controls too.

Captain: Hmmm, wonder if they changed the formula.

It's funny how things change.  When the Tamiya arcylics first came out, they brushed well, straight from the bottle.  Airbrushing was a pain, though, much IPA was required.  And cut with water, too to keep it from drying.

Looks good.

Extruded styrene is used to make a shelf, properly leveling the beds and to provide a good contact point for bonding.

Each bed was cut and fit for each chamber. There are slight differences with each. I used Vallejo black, sealed with Tester Dullcote. The figures are glued to their respective bed using CA. Hopefully, fuming won't bite me when the glass panels close things in.

What is left? I need to install the life monitor decals above each astronaut, install the glass doors, and glue the chairs. That will finish the interior. 

I decided to not make the stowed life raft.  It would not be that much work but it's just not worth it. It will not be seen.

Long story short. I am close to buttoning this thing up.

Oh those look good Bakster! 

And yeah Tamiya is a pain to brush- some of the best paint for airbrushing though. I love Vallejo for figure painting, it's very thickly pigmented- you can thin it a lot and still have it cover.

Figures are done.  

One thing I learned in this process is that what others here have said; Tamiya paint does not brush well. I concur. I started with it because that is what I had on hand. Eventually, I tried Vallejo, and their paint brushed much better. It flowed off the bristels as opposed to the Tamiya that sticks to them. 

The astronauts look sleepy. It is time to make their beds.

The figures are sanded flat. I had to recast two figures. One of them had funky feet because the resin didn't reach through. I tried fixing it using CA but I didn't like the look of it. With the other, for grins, I tried to sand in a circular motion. The figure seemed to sand quicker, but I ended up with one side lower than the other. Lesson learned. Or at least, until I forget, and I try it again in the future.  But what the hey. I had the molds, easy deal to remake. The replacements came out much better.

Below: With figures secured to tape--I sprayed a base coat. I mixed a darker shade of white. It is essentially a light gray. Later, I will selectively brush paint the high points of the uniform using straight white. I am hoping that this will give the figures some depth.

Btw.  The movie Skyjacked was major limburger cheese. The acting stunk and the story line was even worse. I had to laugh at the special effects. There was one scene where the control tower told pilot Heston to change his course. The plane banked at an extreme angle, quickly, and then back. This is a jetliner--not a fighter jet! LOL. If that happened in real life the passengers would have been in for one heck of a ride.

I have not seen 55 Days in Peking,

If memory serves, it's out in the You Tube wilds, if needed.  (Watched "Away All Boats" o YT over the w/e--still a cool story.)

Tale is a fictionalized one of the Boxer Rebellion incident, where the International Cantonment was surrounded and beseiged in 1900.

It was a mix of Embassies and Legations, with family in tow, and was considered a bit of a plum diplomatic assignment. The various nations had supporting military forces, which would have been armed with a great plethora of arms. 

The Brits would have had Metford-Lee, the French, Lebel, the US Marines 6mm Lee, and so on.  The movie manages to engage in characterization without extensive exposition, so, it's natural and fluid.  The pace starts a bit slow, but picks up.  It does not hold that accelerated pace, but lets you breathe and be part of the story.

Yeah a few came to my attn that I didn't see. I started watching the Skyjacked one. Pretty sure this was a made for TV movie. The cast they had were all the typical people floating around back then:

People like Roosevelt Greer, Susan Day, James Brolin, and even our lovely Star Trek lady, LT Uhura.

The opening credits show the movie filmed in panavison, but the movie was heavily cropped. Some of the text was lopped off. So, they aired it in 4x3, but full screen. I am surprised TCM would do that, and my guess is that the only surviving copy is cropped, which speaks to the made for TV thought.

The movie is dated, for sure. But what the hey. It is something different to watch from the overly processed movies of today.

Started my day with 55 Days in Peking, then Ben Hur, then a Noir.  Was a very Heston day.

 

Smiling here. Right you are, Capn. I also recorded and just watched for the first time, The Wreck of the Mary Deare. It wasn't too bad. Another movie I have not seen with Heston is, Skyjacked. I recorded that one too. Will see if that is any good.

OTOH, next time I'm on a delayed flight at the gate waiting for a mechanic to show up to fix something or another, if a guy shows up with a box on his head and little capacitor antennas (or antennae, or whatever), at least I'll be cracking up for a different reason than everyone else.

That is too funny, Greg. LOL. I'd recommend disembarking from the plane first, then laugh.
