I've been modeling for years and years but this kit was a first for me in so many ways- my first ship-first photo etch metal-first rigging. Lots of frustrations. In fact on a separate thread I had to ask for help because I snapped off the original kit-supplied base.

If you know this kit, you'll notice some major faults- feel free to point them out. As I said this was my first time with photo etch metal and my first few attempts ended up crumpled in the garbage. These were mainly stairs and were replaced with kit parts.

This kit didn't come with the wooden decks so I painted them myself- I'm actually proud of how that turned out.

Also- handling the ship I broke off a few of he tiny guns on the side. Oh well.

Nice work, I hope mind ship turns out so well.

I feel your pain.  I also am working on my first ship in years and the first time with photo-etch.  Some of those pieces are so small. I am really, really learning how to be patience and going real slow.

Very nice for your first ship. I just recently completed my first me-109 after a long layoff - say issues. Seemed like every time I picked it up, something fell off.

You should be proud of this for all the reasons you mentioned as firsts. Way  to go.

Pretty nice work for first ship build.  Howd you make the lamp on the crow's nest work?

Thanks, guys!

allan- I didn't. I stamped a little disc of aluminum foil and sealed it with future. It just looks that way from the lighting, I guess.

This is really well done. I'll bet you were surprised at how long it took.

The model is very cool.

I really think that you did a fine job on this project, regardless if it is your first ship. I would never have guessed that hadn't built a ship model before by looking at this one. Well done!

I believe that tank builder went by the name of Gridley back then.........

JT, you did a really good job on this build, you should be very proud of it.

I have it on thoroughly dubious hearsay that Tanker was only a Shipfitter 3/c at Manila Bat with Gridley & Dewey,  (And I do not believe a single bit about the story of his being a cabinboy under Farrgut at mobile Bay Gift)

tankerbuilder is a snipe, through and through. I think he started out as a stoker on Fulton's Folly.

Looks good from here.I just got the premium version kit and am looking forward to doing it.It is about 3 or 4 kits away yet.I.ve been doing Fletcher Class ships for some time and intend to take a break..Just about done converting the 1/144 round bridge to a square bridge with tirpod mast as configured in 1965. Once again nice job.

RadarTec,

Did you scratch all that, or use any conversion parts?

I know there's a PE SPS-10, but I don't remember seeing an SPS-25.  The hedgehog (think those are Mk 11) launchers look to be a pain, even with the canvas cover in place.

I've been guessing that I'd have to raid a Trumpy kit for the triple torpedo tub launcher (Mk 48, maybe?)

Long on my To-Do list is to cobble up DD-554 USS Boyd, one of the ships my father served on.
