Thanks, surfsup. I'm out of town for a week but when I get back I'm going to finish work on the flood holes on the hull, build the propeller sections, and then work on a simple pressure hull. After that I should be ready to do some preshading. It'll be my first time doing that so I'm going to be asking for a lot of input.

Beautiful work so far señor.  I do like what you did with the Flak gun as well as the photo etch parts.  I built the VIIC a couple of years ago and it is posted somewhere here, and wanted to know how good or bad the fits were?  I haven't decided if in am going to pick this up for my stash, but I need to complete my 1/72 Gato first.  I am running out of room quickly!

I checked there website, but nothing on there yet. From what I have seen of CMK aircraft and armour AM items, I'm sure these ship set sets won't disappoint. They seem to have really expanded in the last few years.

Since the info on AMPS forum is over 3 months old, I shot CMK an email asking for any progress on the future releases. Will let you know if I get an answer.  

I was just going through AMP's forum. One of the members had got an e-mail from CMK. They are producing a 105 and railings as well as some other items. This is the reply he got.

"Hello,  thank you for your interest in our future products.   Considering your question, exterior sets are not designed, yet.  But you can expect to find in these sets parts that will enhance the exterior - railings, antennae, periscope, etc.   Weapon set will contain highly detailed double 20mm and 40mm cannons. Weapon Conversion will contain 105mm gun, double 40mm and some 20mm cannons.   All the sets will be announced in advance at our site and on modeller website.     If you have any other question, just let me know.    Best regards, Jan Hajicek, Admin, www.cmkkits.com"

Thanks PJ, I will keep my eye's open. I am hoping that nautilus come up with different conning tower options, that will save some trouble.

That gun is for the Type VII. There is one 105mm in the works from an European firm for the Type IX. Forgot where I saw it but it looks very good.

Speaking of AM sets for sub kits, I have just got the weekly e-mail from Hannants and this is due from Eduard in June. The timing seems a bit odd, if I understand it right, the Type IX carried a 105mm deck gun, so this seems to be for the Type VII.

I got my hopes up at first and then realised its no good for back dating the IX.

I like the PE deck. The detail seems sharper.

If I was to replace the deck then I would go with the wood one. It has the correct texture and will look better than the pe. But then, you can take a brass brush and run it a couple of times on the plastic deck to create some wood graining and save yourself $60. Even though the decking holes are clear, you cannot see the pressure hull underneath, and that's why my cardboard PH idea comes in.I personally like the details of the plastic deck and rather spend the dough on outer pe details that will sharpen up the model. Just my worth.

Personally, I would rather go for wood as its closer to the real thing. I have not seen a PE deck up close, but I do like the look of the Type VII wood deck.

What do you guys think about the nautilus wooden deck vs the PE deck? Here are the links. Which would you choose? Or would you stick with the kit deck?

I'm leaving town for 10 days so I hustled up and finished this. Made some mistakes but overall I'm happy with it. 

I saw that but read "out of stock" too. I ordered props from WEM today for my VII?

No certain date but he said in the coming months some items from Europe will eventually surface. The Technoart stuff is new and I think they will come out with more things eventually.

I've not heard of these guys before, any opinions on this set.

Plastic, did Freetime hobbies say when those goodies were slated to be released? Or give any hint as to what those goodies might be?

Thanks for the info PJ. I would have been surprised to here of an AM railings set as it would have to be wire rather than PE, and I have not heard of anything like that for any kit. I was thinking about trying to make my own on the 125th kit and see how that goes before moving onto the bigger ones.

I gave Freetime Hobbies a call to find out the status of my 1/48 Elco and asked about any future goodies for the Type IX. He says there are a bunch of items slotted to be released to super detail this boat. Nothing on a brass railing set because of the scale will not have a scale thickness so looks like either keep the included rails or scratch them out which I'm not looking forward to.

Just use a hand held pin vise and carefully drill and clean them out. If you are having a hard time with 1/72, imagine working with the 144 scale  Griffon Super Detail Set for the Type VII like I did. I think that's when I began to go bald! LOL.

I worked on the lower platform gun today. Eduard has a lot of tiny PE pieces that go onto it. I'm alternately frustrated at their size and excited by the detail. I'm not a pro at this and have made some mistakes along the way.

Speaking of mistakes, one of my major ones was to glue the flood hole PE panels on, and THEN deciding to drill them out. Dumb. I'm doing my best to drill them out through the PE without damaging the PE. Did a little damage but I'm going to just tell people that the damage is due to depth charges out on patrol. Sound good?

No way I"m going to do the kind of work that Daniel Moscatelli is doing over on Model Shipwrights. He's amazing.

Ye, I used that site a lot for the Type VII, I got their waterline decals and flags and I also got their U-Brass set through WEM. I have also been reading through the build log there. I have noticed they now have the decals for the 505. A lot of great info on their, i'll be watching their site for anything else. I'l defiantly be getting the waterline markings. I need to read through the Wolf Pack collection of article properly, I have only skimmed through it so far.

Ye, I came across a couple, including one of when it was sunk. Also shows a smaller winter garden behind the conning tower. They must have been extended when the deck gun was remove, so U-156 will need a bit of work.

Ye, I saw that. The 2. Flotilla emblem comes with the kit, but according to that site, U 505 didn't carry it.

As far as the armament goes, I was going of the image at the top of this page.

I did also find something else on the site which said deck guns were removed in 43. Though the image of U-156 further down that page I can't make out if there's a gun or not. I need to look into it further, I have a few U-Boat books to check, so I might well be wrong on the armament layout.
