The link opened fine for me.  Those drawings are indeed better than the ones I remember from the kit I reviewed.  

My only other observation would be that the rigging instructions are extremely simplified.  Nothing but the standing rigging and the most basic running rigging.  And a few of the lines shown don't make sense. 

For many modelers, that amount of rigging will be just about right.  I would suggest, though, that if you want to put the sails on you do some additional reading about running rigging.

Imai completely rewrote the instruction book, with better drawings and corrections to the many errors.

It's a staple bound booklet on glassy magazine stock with some four color images.

It's like comparing the supermarket ad supplements in the paper to a copy of Scientific American.

Even though the text is Japanese, the drawings and steps shown are completely understandable.

Now I come from the days of the old Frog kits with a single "exploded" view, but still.

I assume you're referring to Heller's kit. I have English instructions but don't know if they're what is currently included with the kit or date back to the 70's when it was first introduced. They're not like the Soleil Royal plans that have silly English translations in the back to supplement the French but are completely in English from start to finish. We'll, I was sent one for review back when the kit was brand new (in 1978 or thereabouts). The instructions in that one were awful. I was, and continue to be, especially disgusted by the English "translation," which in fact is no such thing. It was written by somebody who (a) couldn't read French and (b) had never tried to build the model. This in a kit that, even in those days, cost over a hundred dollars. I've used every opportunity I can find to gripe about this for about thirty-five years now, utterly without success.

I've heard that Imai, when it distributed the kit, threw in a better instruction book. But I haven't seen it.
