Any day that you can get your hands on an Imai kit is a good day.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

I dug out my old ref list for determining who-made-what.  Maybe it will help.

Mayflower  1/50 (actual: 1/64) Revell kit 5602 20” simplified build (19” on box, sometimes listed as 24” ie: kit #H366)
Mayflower  1/60  Trumpeter   (Said to be same/similar  as IMAI 1/70 kit as many parts look alike) ( Some parts appear Out Of Scale according to one review.)
Mayflower  1/70  IMAI, ERTL    (depicts year 1615) (Beautiful kit.)
Mayflower  1/83,(actual: 1/96) Revell 14-3/4" H316 (appears same as Heller 1/150 kit)    ie kits:  #05486, listed as 16”,  #H327 listed as 13” H316  (Mold used for other Revell kits)
Mayflower  1/96  Airfix, MPC. 12.6” ( Slightly larger than Revell- but very similar.)
Mayflower 1/100  Modelist   (Probably Heller 1/150 copy. )
Mayflower 1/150  Heller  Said to be a larger scale like 1/96. Heller deck looks same as Revell 1/83 kit.
Mayflower 1/250  (closer to 1/280) Pyro, Life-like, Lindberg  (Differs from Mayflower II)        (This kit was remade from Pyro orig Mayflower II-which was a wide hull/toy. )
Mayflower II  1/250  Pyro original  (issued 1956, w/Wood masts, Wide hull- bathtub toy)
Mayflower 1/600?  Gowland&Gowland (Old kit. Some Gowland kits issued bty Revell)
Mayflower  1/?  Airfix  small model (Appears same size as Gowland but with lower hull.

Two good references for boxart is the IPMS website and Scalemates.com.

Scalemates is a big kit database.  It links available aftermarket products and reviews of kits so is a very helpful website.

If the model is for sale by sponsoring vendors and modelers who are selling their kit, a link to the seller's site will appear along with its asking price.

Just type in Mayflower in the Scalemates search engine.  Many Mayflower kits will appear, complete with boxart.  Pick the kit you are interested in.   If there are any aftermarket products or reviews for the kit, they will appear on the Mayflower product webpage.

There may also be links to modelers' builds of that specific kit and available references.

Quimby, I forgot that I started both a Revell & Airfix Mayflower together & got the Airfix hull done & primed , but finished the Revel one. Then I let the Airfix one sit for some years & built other things.

The Airfix kit is very nice , maybe better & bigger than the Revell. I will finish it sometime, but I am 89 now & a little slower. I am working on the Oriental Star that nino gave me. Getting ready to spray it..

Get the Airfix Mayflower, it is a fine kit.

Quimby, I built both the Revell & the Imai/Ertl Mayflowers & they are both very nice kits. The Ertl is really a beautiful kit & much bigger with beautiful detais & castings. I see both on our ebay at times. Here are pictures of both.

This a mistake & is the Airfix Great Western. I will try again.

Ertl Mayflower, large model.

Unfinished Revell & I added sails & a finished base.

The Heller kit is a rebox of the Revell 1/50 scale Mayflower. So Hannents would be a good source.

I purchased said Revell’s Pilgrim Ship in 2013 for parts and was really disppointed by the sloppy job they did. Granted, the molds are getting a bit on the older side, like me, but not only were there large amounts of flash but numerous short shots! All in all I believe Revell Germany could have done a better job on quality control.

evilBay US may be your best option for the smaller older Mayflower but I know shipping can be expensive across the pond. If you can pick up a kit from say pre 1977 then you would be better off. My recommendation would be to pick up the larger kit since it gives you more room to mess about with.

Also, if you are thinking of replacing the kit blocks with wooden blocks and good line, then the larger kit would be easier to scale to.

There were two Revell Mayflower kits, one in about 1/50 and one about 1/96.

They are kits H-366 and H-327. In many ways the smaller one is condidered the better one. I've never built the larger one, but it was produced as an easy-build kit.

Here's a good amount of background about it.

http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/7/t/110765.aspx

Airfix did make a Mayflower at 1/150. It's a really old mould, from 1972.

Finding the Revell smaller model, with the figures, would be a treasure.

Now the good news. Revell of Germany reissued the kit as the "Pilgrim Ship" in 2013, obviously to make web searches harder!

Could only find the Heller kit on E-Bay. Hannants has a Gift set 400th anniversary boxing on future releases. Doesn't give a date, but as 2020 is 400 years since it sialed to the new world, it should be some time this year.

It was last released in 2013, so you might still find it in shops, though i can't say i have seen it in our LHS, but then i don't lok for stuff like that.

Failing that, try your local model shows through the summer.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Agreed, look at eBay. Does it have to be Revell, I know Airfix made one?

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Since I'm on the west side of the pond, can't help with any shops, but would suspect that you can find what you want on ebay UK, or over here.  Shipping from the states shouldn't be too bad if found either locally or stateside.
