Just about done with my cantankerous, off-scale, but ultimately fun and good looking Wappen Von Hamburg.  Just gotta do the sails and rigging.  The little plastic stand will not do though.  I'd love to get directed to somebody who has a nice little customized stand that is formed to fit the model.  Maybe I could get a custom job made that looks really nice to fit my beautiful little ship. If anyone out there can point me in the right direction for getting such a thing I'd appreciate it.

Just tried to figure out how to post pics, but failed to do so!  Well, I'll figure it out later.

 Thanks all....

I can't help with the stand, but I can help with the pic posting. These forums require the use of a web hosting service such as Photobucket, or Imageshack, Flickr or a host of others. I created a tutorial that walks you through registering with Photobucket (it's free!) through to the actual posting of pics in the forums:

Hope that helps!

So long folks!

There are some vendors (ModelExpo) who sell bases which need to be finished.

There are several other options, but first, do you have woodworking skills and/or access to tools?

Craft stores sell wooden placques.  They are pine and can be stained & finished (sometimes look tacky)

Trophy shops also sell placques (finished) in a variety of woods.

I went to the local Habitat for Humanity resale shop and there were a number of second-hand wooden drawer fronts/cabinet doors.  Most need to be refinished.

Check if there is a woodworking supply store nearby (Rockler/Woodworkers Warehouse).  There may be someone in there who can do custom work for you.

I have a router & table saw.  I make my own bases from oak boards sold at Lowes/Home Depot & stain and finish.    If you come up totally blank post back & we'll see what we can do for you.  I'm in Texas.  Where are you?

Hey, thanks for the replies everyone. Bgrig, much thanks for the guide on posting pics!  I'll see if I can get it to work for me.

Edgrune, I am pretty good at just about everything under the sun, but I have zero wood-burning experience.  What I am looking for is just a nice (doesn't have to be finished, I can do that) wooden stand that fully supports my hull (including a shallow depression that can handle the 1/4 inch or so of the keel).  On the front of the base I'd like to have Wappen von Hamburg burned into the wood.  I will check out my local woodworking shops and see what I can dig up.  Otherwise, I'd like to work with you....I live in California, nice little piece from Texas, but not too far away.

By the way, I'd like to get some authentic decals of flags for the ship, or as authentic as I can get.  Any tips on procuring that?

Thanks a lot for ya'lls advice and help.

Regards,

So here she is!  She looks really good, I spent months on it.  The only dissapointment was the black plastic rigging.  I tried and tried to remove them from their part trees without damage, but it is impossible to do.  Oh well, small flaws. Notice the crappy little stand that it is on, it barely supports the ship, and if a big earthquake comes, AHHHHH!  Fortunately, I have it braced on all sides for that eventuality.  Gotta have a nice stand for such a good-looking vessel!

I know that this does not answer your immediate question, but I build the Wappen Von Hamburg myself. I wish you can see my build and how I done my rigging. there is a possibility that it might help you when you get to that stage. I used Gift wrapping tissue paper as my furled sails. The Rigging can only be done within reason considering the scale at which the ship is.
