Aside from Ross's undercoating advice, also go with extremely light coats.  Be wary of letting paint build up along the masked edges.  The first time I ever used yellow was on the leading edges of the wings on a 1/144 Spitfire, and I eventually got fine coverage by simply applying many, many light coats.  By keeping each coat so light that the paint never even gets that brief hint of wetness, the edges never built up and there was no perceivaable bump or extra thickness on the yellow compared with the rest of the wing.

Yea, yellow is a pain in the rear to use.  I hate it, I love the color, hate using it.  It killed a group build entry, the paint was almost a mm thick by the time it completly covered and nothing leaked through.

I tend to now leave my yellow thicker then my other colors, so it covers better. (not alot thicker, just alittle)

The key to getting good coverage with yellow is:

white, particularly flat white. Undercoat the yellow with a coat of flat white. You don't need complete hide with the white.

Undercoat final white with silver. Undercoat yellow with white. Undercoat bright oranges and reds with white or silver.

Anyways yes this is what i use and it works great!  I think you once told me to do this...long long long ago. Big Smile [:D]

Thanks for the tip. Tamiya paint is not available locally though.  Gotta order it or take a long trip to Houston.  I'll give the white primer a shot though.

Max-

I have never tried either of those colors, but I have tried MM acrylics with no success.  I use acrylics almost exclusively, and would recommend Tamiya brand.  I usually spray a few light coats of Tamiya flat white first then a few light coats of their yellow. Works very well for me.  HTH! Thumbs Up [tup]

Can someone, anyone, tell me how to get good coverage with yellow paint?  I've tried the badger model flex sunset yellow and while it sprays okay, i have to put on so many coats to cover it, it is crazy thick.  Any tips on getting good coverage?  I picked up some MM Blue Angels Yellow Acryl today, but haven't tried it yet. Any tips?
