One brand of metallics that work real well over preshading is Alclad. They are pre thinned in the bottle.

fermis i'm 1 for 2...i can make a line that narrow but I've lost the steady hand. More practice required. I'll try some aluminum over it tomorrow and we'll see how it looks.

modelcrazy im a glutton for punishment i guess. I'm determined to figure this out lol

Don't worry, I don't have preshading down either.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Metalic colors cover everything. So, it's not you!

For metals, like in this instance (I use MM Metalizers), I start with "burnt Iron"...nice and dark...then fill in/highlight areas with lighter colors...Steel, Aluminum, etc...leaving a little bit of the darker color where I want it. A very fine airbrush helps. Mine will spray a dot, about an 1/8th inch, sometimes a little smaller. Low pressure and very close to the part....very steady trigger finger!

I'm practicing on the engine exhaust for my 1/32 F-4E Phantom. I thinned testors flat black and sprayed it in the creases of the exhaust. After it dried I thinned testors steel 60/40 thinner to paint. I put 2 light coats on with my airbrush at about 8psi. There are some shadows but I feel like it's covered up too much. Haven't done this before so would appreciate some other opinions if these pictures are clear enough.
