Well, overall, I liked it. Cleaner look, great quick response area, much more responsive.  I'm sure most of the quirks will get worked out.

It seems like the current logged on users section is not working.  It has not showed more than nine since the site came back.

More online users should be appearing now. Also, members are able to turn off so they aren't visible in the list.

Ummm, since you responded to post after mine, should I assume my comments/questions got 'lost in the sauce' and I should repost them?

First, as OWL said, the way the threads titles change colors (or don't) after you read them. I know Craig responded to those comments in the quote below. But here is my 'issue': If I am doing a quick glance through the forums, there is no real easy way to tell which thread that I am participating in have had some new activity if the title stays the same. I think (correct me if I'm wrong) that if there is a new post then the authors name in the 'Latest post' column is bolded, but that results in a lot of back and forth, big font to small font. I find it to be very fatiguing

Apparently, I was actually wrong about this. From what I can see, there is no way to distinguish threads that you have read and those you have not. For example, I have read the 'Yep, testing this new forum' thread. However, it remains bolded, so a couple of times I have glanced at it, assumed that since it was bold there was something new, went in to take a look and found the same old stuff. That sucks.

It is also frustrating that you now have to go through a multi-step process to get to the thread you participate in. Usually, if I'm in a thread and I see a comment by a user it will often spark me to think "Oh yeah, that reminds me, I have to go over to this other thread to make a comment or check on something". It used to be pretty simple since the link to get to threads you have participated in was always in the right hand column. Now you gotta hunt and peck for it. That kinda sucks as well.

I know, I know, these are all things that I'll get used to. Doesn't mean I'm going to be happy about it. Since I don't use a mobile device, it seems like most of the benefits of the new forum are lost to me...

No, I read your post so you shouldn't have to repost it again.  Sorry, not ignoring you, just been a busy day.

The issue with being able to click a person's post count and view all there posts I know about.  There is a slight issue with how the posts are being calculated which is why it's turned off at the moment.  Working on a fix at the moment and will post when it's been fixed.

The signature white space issue could probably be changed.  I'll have to take a look at the styling.

I'll take a look at the "read" versus "unread" styling when I have a moment to see if there is something that can be done.

Sorry Bbrowniii,

We're working on October and November's issues, too, so we have to get to the messages when we can.

And Craig came in as I was typing, so I'll just delete everything else I said.

No worries. I understand there is a lot of jumping through the hoops right now.

Thanks for getting back to me on that. As I just posted to Tim, I know you guys are probably doing a bit of double duty with responding to all the comments and critiques about the new forum.

Second: there is a ton of white space. In particular, there is no clear boundary between where a post ends and a persons sig line begins. Oftentimes, I have found a signature to be spaced in such a way that it seems like the next paragraph in a post and I'll be half way through it before I realize what it is.

yeah, that bugged me too. So I 'fixed' it myself by adding a

above my sig to help separate it.

In “Recent Discussions”,  you have the option to sort by Topic, Date, and Replies.

The date sort is not working.  It does not make  a difference in the sort order where you select asc or desc.

Echo,

I'm not sure why it's not working for you. I just tried it in the Aircraft section and changing it altered the top listed post from today to sometime in 2006.

for the differences in read/unread threads, would it be possible to include a color change as well? Like change the title to blue (or something) if its been read, with thin font, and then blue-bold font when new posts show up?

Aaron, that is correct.  The sorting works fine in the aircraft section and I suspect in others, but it is not workin in the Recent Discussions section.  I just tried it again.

Craig is looking into the possibility of doing that. We'll keep you posted.

Seriously - the new "expanded, bigger, better" format is awful.

Now, instead of getting 10-15-20 threads on ONE SCREEN....so you can have a quick glance at everything....you get two items per screen - and have to continuously scroll down .

This is not a visual or "user friendly" improvement.

I am gonna guess this has been asked and answered but the mountain of stuff posted so fast... can't wade through it to find out.

Can the rich formatting be made the default instead of having to click it every time?

Is one of the technical issues the look? Because this is ugly. What fit in a few lines before now takes half a page. I don't come here to play with all the little functions, I come to read about models and who's building what. What issues they have, what techniques they use and how they apply them. I thought that's what this place is supposed to be about.

Not that it matters, but there's my opinion.

Tony

An alternative if you do not wish to come directly to the website to view the forum threads is to subscribe to a forum either via e-mail or via RSS.

Each forum has an RSS feed attached to it.  You can usually find the links in the right column right below the advertisements.

For example here is the RSS feed for the "Aircraft" forum:
http://cs.finescale.com/fsm/modeling_subjects/f/2/rss.aspx?Mode=0

Subscribing to the forums via e-mail alerts can be done from the  Email Notifications page.  The link is in the profile box located just above the advertisements.  Same box that has your avatar inside of it.

Why on earth would I do that? It's worse than looking at this page. Email notifications? lol Sure, I want my inbox overrun.

I just don't understand Kalmbach's need to turn this place upside down every couple of years. Aren't there enough falling outs and disagreements without intentionally creating this? I don't get it. A line from Outlaw Jose Wales comes to mind...

Endeavor to persevere...

Could you guys add the forums to the bottom of the thread like on the old style, that way you don't have to scroll to the top every time to move along.

This has probably come up, but i liked the old way of being able to click "Your discussions" or something like that and it would come up with everything you've posted in. Not just threads you started. And with the ones that havent seen activity since your last perusal being greyed out. Maybe thats just the "I hate change" person in me.

Mikey,

At the right of the screen, on your profile panel, click "Your discussions" - Hey presto, all the threads you've posted in, in order of your most recent activity. Big Smile

First impression is way too much wasted space on the page.  I know you can't please everybody and upgrading and changing people's cheese can cause much wailing and gnashing of teeth.  So thanks for the product and service you provide.

Oh, and one more thing.  Putting the thread tree back on the bottom would be very helpful.  Not having to scroll back to the top when you read the latest posts was one of the best features of this board as opposed to most of it's competition.

The medals relate to your post count. From what i can gather, your number of medals go up until you hit 5. And then they change colour to red.

Ye, i noticed the join date has gone as well, along with the location. And i am coming up to my 10th as well.
