Update on Toshis move!
Posted by Toshi on Monday, October 24, 2016 6:37 PM

To my fellow forum members,

It is a pleasure to touch base with you all.  I have missed posting and having discussions with FSM forum members.  I also miss making models.  Currently, Mrs. Toshi and I with family members have been busy with not only packing but moving all of the boxes and heavy furniture into our new condo.  This has been a painstaking ordeal.  Without the help of family members, I don't think we could have done this move.  But then again, that's what family is for.

As for my models?  This is or was one of the last things to move at this point.  As everyone is aware, the nightmarish task of moving models is a huge undertaking.  As you can see below, each model was carefully placed in the back of the Kia Sedona van and transported two condo buildings down the property as we have only gone from a three bedroom condo to a two bedroom condo within the complex.  It's literally a one minute drive.

As all of you are aware, the new two bedroom condo is a disaster.  It looks like a bomb exploded in there.  LOL!  Boxes everywhere with almost no room to navigate in.  What's really nice is that the little computer niche that Mrs. Toshi has allocated for my model room is visually coming together.  I can see how things can come together.  This is also due to all for your support and belief in me.

As soon as everything is situated.  I will start on my first kit in our new condo.  Until then I'll continue to touch base and shoot pics of my moving progress.  Thank you forum members for everything!

Toshi

P.S. What's nice is that although our official move in date is November 1st., the office personnel has told us it would be fine to move our belongings in one week early!

Great!

I really miss the fun of moving....that is not sarcasm...I really do miss it. I've been in this place for over 13 years now, and I'll most likely live out my days here. Prior to this, the longest I ever lived in one house was 4 years (Army brat). I love the mental process of organizing and setting up a new place, whether it's a couple blocks away or half way across the country.

Enjoy!!!

Good to see/hear of the forward progress in you moving.

I noticed in the photo, some real classic air plane models. The blue paint on the jet and the red paint on the famous "Flying Machine" still look new. You have done well in keeping them in pristine condition. Oh, and the ones in back of them are nice too

Way to go, Toshi. At first you felt your modeling days were over, seeing your move ahead of you and the more restricted space available. Then, with encouragement from family and your extended family here at FSM, you determined how you could continue.

Once you get your "model factory" organized and tools in place, you'll be off and running again. I'm glad to learn of your plans, the forums would seem less fun if you didn't show up every day. Keep 'em coming, what will be your first build when you start up again???

Good luck with all you have to do, in your relocation. And thanks, Mrs. Toshi, for your help in keeping Mr. Toshi in the game.

Thank you fermis for the kind words of support.  At this point, the transporting of boxes was a little hard for me but the actual setting up/organizing part is very fun and refreshing for me.  I know exactly what you mean by this.  Thank you sir for the read and reply!

It's good to hear from you and good to be back as well!  LOL!  The blue paint on the jet as well as the red paint on the famous "Flying Machine" as you so correctly put it has been kept well even after been flown by my son and I.  LOL!  I did loose a few parts here and there and placed the loose parts into a ziplock sandwhich bag to be later glued in to place on the appropriate aircraft.  Thank you DUSTER for the read and reply!

Thank you for everything Patrick206, it's so good to hear from you My friend!  I could not have gotten this far without the encouragement from you all.

My first kit to build is an interesting subject not only for it's build but for the story.  Prior to knowing we would be moving, Mrs. Toshi had a $100.00 coupon for Amazon Prime.  She was going to buy something for herself yet instead told me to pick something out that I wanted.

Of course this would be a model kit.  After careful contemplation, I chose a Trumpeter 1/32 Attack Harrier II Night Fighter.  I also had some extra money leftover on the coupon so I purchased some Eduard PE for this kit.  This will be my debut back into this wonderful hobby of ours.

What's funny now is knowing after the fact that I now have limited space in the new condo and here I am building this gigantic 1/32 jet!  LOL!  Patrick206, thank's for your support and read and reply!

Yes, thanks to my brother in-law and sister in-law From Ashtabula.  They are great people.  My niece will be here all day today as well as all day tomorrow.  My son and daughter helped out so much.  Today I'll be doing some putty work on the dry wall and taking down the flat screen TV's.  Then it's back to the new place to make room and organize the space.

Thank you Gamera for the visit!  I miss all of you!

fermis is right.  I hate the thought of moving and the nightmarish idea of boxing things up, but once you get over that hump, the organizing of the new condo is a lot of fun!  Thank you Tanker - Builder for visiting this thread!

Apparently the thread is fine where it is.

We moved last year and we are still unpacking a box here and there.

You have to be extra careful of the blue jet and flying machine, those are priceless builds there.

It's hard to explain how strongly I agree with Patrick. The life and positive attitude you bring to this place is a big deal to me, and I'll bet I'm not alone feeling that way, Toshi.

So glad to hear your move is coming along, and that you have firm plans for a model building center. I've gotten back to doing some modeling again (thanks to you, in part, for the inspiration), and from time to time as I rearrange junk on my building mat for space to do something, (though I have a total of 16 x 3 feet of completely cluttered bench space), I think of you and your smaller space, realising it doesn't matter and you'll be fine. Smile

Go give Mrs Toshi a big hug right now, while you are thinking of it.

Ahh the joys of moving. We have moved out of state twice in the last 9 years and it is a lot of work. You are moving down the block so it should be a piece of cake. Have fun moving Toshi and enjoy your new surroundings.

Hey Toshi, glad you are getting into the new space.  We moved quite a while ago, and the packing was a pain, but figuring out where everything went in the new house was kind of fun.  Hope you get your modelling space sorted out, and get to some building soon, as it sounds like this is helping out quite a bit with your medical issues.  Can't wait to see your next build!

Sounds like Mrs. Toshi is a peach!

Good luck,

LOL!  The blue jet and the "Flying Machine" are doing just fine!  I know what your talking about in boxes, we are trying to fit a three bedroom condo into a two bedroom condo.  LOL!

I know exactly what you're talking about.  We island hoped from Oahu to Mauai then onto Palm Springs California From 1997 to 1999.  Then in 2001 we moved to Ohio.  That's an average of once every two years.  Then in Ohio we moved six times from 2001 to 2016.  This is the second easy move we've ever done.

The packing part and moving the boxes are a logistical nightmare but once it's in my he new condo, it's refreshing to unpack.  I'm enjoying every bit of our new surroundings.  The model room niche is very cozy!

Yes, I completely agree!  Packing is a PITA!  LOL!  But logistically, unpacking is fun and interesting.  I think we can get unpacked by mid-November.

Modeling has helped with my TBI Traumatic Brain Injury drastically.  It has helped my fine motor skills and cognition.  What's more important is the fact that I found something more important, FSM forum members.  Reading and writing to you all has brought much joy to my life not to mention being able to traverse the world!

My modeling space is slowly coming together.  I'm very pleased with the outcome.  Check out the photos below.

As for Mrs. Toshi, I would not have been here without her.  She's an angel sent from heaven!  Thank you sir for your kind words and the read and reply.  I hope to see some postings of a WIP work in progress from you.

As you see below, here are some photos in regards to placement of my model kits.  I actually donated four kits (Revell 1/48 B-25 Mitchell, Tamiya 1/48 Mosquito, and due to my TBI, I forgot what the other two kits were) to two handymen on our property as they are always helping me with things not related to repair work on the property.  Other than that, I found a way to make all the kits fit and still have room for many more.

The display I chose to utilize is something FSM forum members have described as well as seeing this being done on FSM magazine.

Greg, you are too kind!  Your words brought tears to my eyes!  The move was hectic at best and the new condo looks like a bomb exploded in the middle of the living room.  LOL!  I actually have a little more room than I thought I would have.  I'll have photos once my area gets situated.  Greg, thank you for your support you've given me from the start.

I do not envy you in the slightest, buddy. When I was born, my dad was in the army (I was actually born at Walter Reed in D.C.), and he later became a preacher. So, I've seen my fair share of moves. My last move put me somewhere around 25 total. Granted, that includes moves across town and such, but still! The new setup/display looks great though, Toshi.

Toshi , I had no Idea that you were such a prolific modeler . All very well done though .You look like you're getting settled in though ! Good on you ! T.B. P.S. Is that short (railing / wall ? ) the opening for a stairway ? If so , maybe you better fasten those models down so they don't fall into the canyon ?

I know the feeling.  I left home at 16 as wanting to be a jazz musician.  I moved so much in six years.  All over the US and Northern Europe.  I did this as a young single guy so it was more of an adventure as well as being fun.  LOL!

Thank you for your comment on my new setup/display!

It's just shows how much of a passion I have for the hobby.  I so enjoy the building of kits!  Yes, yes, and yes.  They are a railing, wall, and a staircase.  LOL!  If they fall into the canyon, Mrs. Toshi said she'll buy me more kits!  LOL!
