Well said, as far as Halo 3's campaing goes, you can really play it once. But the multiplayer...

Hey, don't mean to spam up this thread either but I wanted to weigh in on my thoughts real fast.

The Halo series are some of the best selling video games of all time. My sister works at Game Stop and her midnight release of Halo Reach brought the store 26,000 dollars. The only game that may compete with that in the near future is Call of Duty: Black Ops and maybe, maybe Medal of Honor.

Halo revolutionized the FPS industry in that it gave users a chance to play with sick weapons, sport neat armor, and kill nasty bad guys, and moreover, do it all online. Never mind the poor story line, most people I know playing the game, are playing it on Xbox Live.

As far as Left 4 Dead goes, its an Ok game, but no where near as influential as Halo for obvious reasons. Though cooperation is fun in this game, other games do utilize a great deal of cooperation though maybe not to L4D's extent. Games like Gears of War for instance, feature cooperative campaign modes where survival is dependent upon each other. Gears also features a more intense, and more interesting online multiplayer mode. Also, L4D initially only gave users the chance to wield, what, 4 weapons? A shot gun, assault rifle, sniper rifle, and an uzi or some such. Pistol too? Not very dynamic and rather disappointing, IMO.

That being said, I've played both Halo and Left 4 Dead and I prefer L4D for the campaign and the sheer excitement. But I'd have to hand it to Halo for its innovation and online gaming.

These are of course, my opinions. Either way, I purchased a PS3 to compliment my Xbox. This way I can play online for free. I play Call of Duty and that's really about it.

My two cents. Carry on!

While this is a trivia quiz and I don't want to spam this up, I did want to mention 1 thing. First, Halo CE was pretty basic, and I'm not a total fan of the flood. But they DID add a new dimension to the game, and the whole plot of Halo's existence. And the only vehicle that was indestructible was the warthog, probably for the final, "maw" run. Why exactly, I'm not sure. But they're fun to grenade-jump. Also, do not forget the jackel snipers. On legendary, I fear them far more than even elite zealots or brute chieftains. Grunts are there for canon-fodder, and if you're not careful they can do a number on your shields leaving you open. And the bugger things were beast in ODST.

Now problem with co-op being a major part of the game, what happens if you get a fool on your team? You're pretty much dead. Now isn't left 4 dead xbox 360? In that case you still have to buy live, right? Unless you have a PC version, which is also available for Halo. Both games have strengths and weaknesses, but I honestly think Halo is better than you think. Of course all games are gonna have issues, but Bungie has been rather effective in eliminating the worst problems. And it does require skill, especially in reach and ODST. If you really want to discuss it more, we'll keep it to PM's

There is nothing about Halo that was new, at all.  Its a Generic Scifi shooter.  You could change the models to starcraft units and it would be the same game or even starship troopers for that fact.

Im not saying that the game isn't well executed but its nothing special at all and it suffers from the problems of EVERY generic console FPS game, grenade spam, swarms of trolls, lag caused by local server hosting, generic uninteresting weapons (though I will admit I loved the covenant stinger thing) that lack any realism and leads to no skill required to play the game.

Then the story... the war part is fine, but they threw the flood stuff in there and it made no sense really, would have been alot better as a epic war thing, but even then the whole vehicle combat... the vehicles not dieing by you being shot out of it was stupid on an extreme level.  Also the fact that their grunts are these little squeaking midget things that run around screaming doesnt do much to help any kind of immersion and then the fact that the only compitent enemy that made you worry, the elites, werent played up in the 2nd and 3rd games.  Also the only real difference between games was better graphics and a few new weapons.

Since you mentioned left 4 dead...  Left 4 dead was one of the first fps games to make a co-op game that depended on the co-op and make it an integral part of the game.  The 'AI director' makes the game different every single time you play so that you could play the same campaign over and over and each time it will be different and challenging.  Vs mode changed the game completely and while alot of games that do that kind of thing leave the zombie side sort of uninteresting (see zombie panic source) they thought it out and made the infected fun to play then there is the whole 'giving us free stuff, free updates, new campaigns, new modes'

oh, and lets not forget that for halo you have to pay a subscription to play online, may as well play a shooter MMO

Skull Gundam got it. And plus, "Dervish n' the Chief" doesn't have the same ring to it. On to you!

and @Smeagol, seriously, you play Left 4 Dead. Zombies is just as much of a cliche as Halo's concept is so I don't get why you're complaining. Halo isn't the most original game out there but it was well-executed in my opinion, one of the best multiplayer systems out there, and had a decent storyline. Plus Reach and ODST has added a new dimension to the storyline. And Master Chief is a perfect example of bad-assery but that is already scientific law.

His name was supposed to be Dervish.  They changed it because it felt like they were setting up a US vs. Islam theme.  Personally, I think Arbiter is a cooler name.

If at first you do succeed, try to hide your astonishment.

This thread needs new life! Since it's been dead so long, I figured I'd get the ball rolling again...

In the Video-game series, "Halo," specifically Halo 2 "The Arbiter" was supposed to have a different name. What was that name and why was it changed?

Thank you. I have quite the collection of Gerry Anderson merchandise (DVDs, models, books, card sets), which far outstrips anything I have on other sci-fi shows. Thumbs Up [tup]

Four.

Captains Scarlet, Black and Brown, in the premier episode "The Mysterons." Only Scarlet was freed from the Mysterons' control after his second death.

Captain Indigo, "Spectrum Strikes Back."

Ok, Carrying on the Captain Scarlet theme:

How many Spectrum Officers were taken over by the Mysterons during the series?

Name them?

For a bonus, name the episodes in which they were Mysteronised

Ill venture a guess and say that since the dude is the top rank, it would make sense he would be named after the furthest color on the spectrum, black being the other

For those who remember Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons:

With the exception of the Angels, every member of Spectrum was assigned a colour such as Captain Scarlet and Doctor Fawn. Why is the commander-in-chief titled Colonel White?

Yes, Rob, but I gave you "Mark Lenard" in the original question - he's the only one to play all three MAIN alien races in ST - that should have narrowed it down

Anyone up on Mark Lenard trivia would have gotten it

He played General Urko on the short lived Planet of the Apes TV series - he appeared in 11 of the 14 episodes

Andy Dick.

His line was: "I'm a doctor, not a commando!"
