Yeah I use the term 'cloaked' jokingly for getting shot repeatedly by a tank that never shows up on the map or having an enemy you were shooting at seem to just blink out and vanish without having moved under cover. I still haven't watched the video on the mechanics of visibility yet but really need to. Eventually I just got tired of being drop-shotted by an opponent I never see and went out and bought a TD and put a camo net on her - if you can't beat 'em join 'em eh?

just thought id ask, anyone else here using premium vehicles? I have a Ram- II.

Speaking of arty, i decided yesterday to head down the french line, just to change the usual pace of things...  already advanced tiers, and have the tier III fully upgraded.

To answer your question, ripcord, ill try my best... the "cloaking device" is not an add- on. It is merely a system that removes your vehicle from view if far away or behind cover. This turns off if you fire or move into the open. The camo net and camo pattern that can be applied to your tank merely reduces detection chance.

...and to add a little...some equipment that you can purchase can help you be a bit more stealthier, faster and tougher. The only thing I have is the cammo net on 2 of my tanks...one is the Hummel. They had a real good tutorial on the WoT site about cammo...one trick I learned is to stay about 30m back behind bushes, you won`t be seen for a while and you can hammer away on people, until they get close enough to spot you. You just have to kill them before they do...DeadBig Smile

The equipment can keep you "cloaked" for a few seconds longer and sometimes they have to get really close to spot ya. There`s also equipment that will help you detect a tank quicker and keep `em lit up a little longer than usual...not sure how long you stay visible once you fire your gun but I would bet it`s close to 10 seconds. Hope this helped...lol...

What is this cloaking device I keep hearing?  I only play allied, usually light tanks.  All I have ever seen is a camo net for 1 mil.  Nothing to research either.

Gamera

Just bought a SPG for the first time, interesting change of pace.

Guess I'm a bit of a jerk, the only things I'm good at are sniping with my hidden camoed cloaked tank destroyer and lobbing shells at range with my artillery. I pretty much suck at taking anyone on face-to-face and hand-to-hand in a fair fight...Embarrassed

Ooohhh.....one of those are ya...?...lol. I just sold my Pz III/IV for a Hummel. The only other SPG I had was the T-57...got a lot of kills with that one. I got away from the arty because you are extremely hated and sought after...and die fast if you have a crappy team....Dead  I think I only have 2 battles in the Hummel...got get my 2x as soon as I send this post....Big Smile

I've seen you on there troubelemaker66, I play as joeynobody.  Don't have a premium account, just makes upgrading slower -but the game is fun, so I don't mind.  have a IS-3, T-50, T34-85, and a AMX75 that I hate.  No Artys and SPGs though.

I go by the name paperpanzer66, and having fun whilst playing! Currently at the Hetzer, and no premium account, too much of a cheapskate for that. Can't wait for the upper teirs!

Ha! That`s what I call my Pz III/IV...paper panzer...lol. I`ll keep an eye out for you. We should all try to get together and make a clan or at least platoon or something. Not really sure how to do it tho`...Embarrassed

I've played almost 9000 battles now and have grown accustomed to the camo AKA "cloaking" mechanism.  There are a lot of variables that go into a tank's visibility factor and It can be frustrating at times.  I've never understood how the house/car/tree is fully visible but the King Tiger sitting next to it isn't.  I guess that's the part of the WOT that is more game and less sim.

I can't tell you the number of times that I've gotten an opposing tank down to less than 50 hp's and then repeated shots in the flank hit for no damage or bounce off.

Besides it's flaws, I still love it.  Hang in there it gets easier.

Len,

Yes I do have a premium account, but find that it only provides one real advantage and that is the 1.5x payout on credits and exp in battles.  Even with Premium it still takes forever to grind to the upper tiers.  I've never bought my way up by spending gold for credits or exp.

I have bought a few premium tanks which I play occasionally; however, the premium tanks aren't really very good compared to other tanks of the same tier.  They do make LOTS of credits though and that is the primary reason why I and others will play them.

I guess that`s part of my problem...need some "earners". I do have  a few good tanks in my garage but just can`t seem to survive many battles. My biggest pet peeve is the old "invisitank"...can`t stand getting nailed from someone that`s right there in close range and they`re unseen. I know all the tricks of camoflauge and have cammo nets on 2 tanks but sometimes it just seems ridiculous. They don`t "unmask" when they fire??? What the heck! I`m also convinced there is cheating going on....some guys are invincible...I can nail guys in vulnerable spots on their tanks, with my derp guns, and only take 3 or four hit points off??? They were actually talkin about it in a battle I was in and I watched a guy in an M4 get repeatedly nailed by multiple tanks and stayed at 100% HP. I just get frustrated with the game sometimes...but I love it anyway.

I play under the name Stryk9.  I love the low tier light tanks...even though I have all the big iron I still enjoy playing tier 1 and 2 tanks...it's just a whole bunch of fun.

My favorite tanks in the game are

#1)  M36 Slugger.  Decent Armor great gun for it's tier and I get really good match maker results with it.  60% win rate over 500 battles in this great TD.

#2)  IS3 another great tank with good balance of power and a decent gun

#4)  T-62A  A beast on the battlefield

Do you have a premium account?  I`ve been playing for quite a while now and I`m beginning to think I`m doing things the wrong way. Lots of guys have all the equipment and "gold" shells etc., I never have enough silver credits to buy much of anything. I currently have:

1: M6

2: M4A3E2

3: Churchhill I

4:T-50

5:VK3601

6: Pz III/IV

It`s taken me what seems like forever to get this far...think I`ve been at it since last March. It`s tough going up against guys that are "buying" their tanks and all the other stuff but understand why it`s that way...sure makes me want to get a premium account but $99 bucks???

Anyway....we definately should all list our WoT names and hook up to platoon or company battle...should be fun!

How do we look eachother up on this game?

Tim, click on the Contacts button at the bottom of the garage screen.  Switch to the Find Contacts tab, and enter the name you want to search for.  Select the name you want, and click the Add Contact button at the bottom of the window.

Gamera

BTW: Sorry I haven't been on the game much, bad ISP problems, after Thanksgiving I need to call the cable company and see if they can straighten this mess out. TV is messing up too, other night it was so fuzzy on Mythbusters I couldn't tell Adam and Jamie apart! Hopefully will be back on the game soon- look for Gamera977 - all my vehicles are US Army or British.

Look for me too...guess what my name is......Big Smile

Ripcord: You start out on a newbie battlefield and shouldn't be facing anything much more powerful than your T1 plus the other players are rookies too so you're pretty evenly matched.

Hans: Yeah the game is mostly arcade. You drive the tank with your WASD keys and rotate the turret (if you have one) and look around with the mouse. Most of the time you'll be using the bird's eye third person view on your vehicle but you can zoom in using a gun's eye view- in fact it's the only way I can hit anything. As Ripcord said you get a pile of different tanks, tank destroyers, and SPGs available but you start out with a cheap light tank and have to gain experience and money to invest in research to buy better hardware (bigger engine, better gun, etc) and to eventually jump to a bigger more powerful AFV.

Their website is here. Click on Media for screenshots and videos.

The voice acting is good, but funny it's English with an American accent for everyone- even Soviet and German vehicles!

Maybe not your cup o' tea Hans but as the guys said- it's free to play, you only need to pay to get special premium tanks and equipment. So try it, play around with it, and if you don't like it delete it- the only thing you've lost is the time invested.

Hey Hans....it took me a min but I was rolling around outside the tank, then I accidently scrolled my mouse wheel in....  Then I was inside the tank looking out.  I could even magnify the scope for the shot.  I was hit and the tank commander got knocked out....  lol   I lost a track  =[  and all kinds of crap went down.  After few minutes everything is repaired but only so much...its a field repair.  Gotta repair your tank in the garage,   upgrade it too.  You can upgrade anything.  Its a cross between a sim and arcade.  Leaning towards the sim when insde the tank.  I jumped my tank and broke a track  =[  Very addicting, and its nice the everyone is a real person, except your tank crew.  But they really talk, like when you lock on the gunner ask permission to fire or says that one too far away.

Hans, you should check it out.  It is free and it is addicting.

There is nothing like rolling across the steppes and mowing down other tanks in my Maus.

As if you needed another addition.

Heh.. Guess what I'm looking for is a sim, ala "Panzer Elite"... Is WoT "arcade-style" or "Sim-Style".. I want a sim, where I'm using the joystick and keyboard, and I'm "inside" the tank, not looking at it from outside.. Any screen-shots?

I've been playing for 1.5 years...up to tier 10 on several lines.  Love it, great game.

It's not a simulation, it's a game.

Watchmann

I don't play in the rooms much, so i had forgotten that you don't earn experience there, so you can't progress through the game to get larger tanks.  So, Hans, if you don't want to play with the regular slobs, then you won't get much enjoyment from the game.

Too bad..  But if one could get enough interest in forming a few dedicated units, say, one Axis, one Allied, things could be fun.. Might take a while though..
