I like to take lots of pictures at the museums, air shows and vacation destinations I visit,  I also compete in International Defense Pistol Association matches at the gun club, so I do some reloading as well.

In addition to getting back into model buildiing after almost 20 years, I still read as much as I can, mostly SCI-FI and fantasy, although I also read quit a bit of history mostly on WWII.  I have been involved with the Society for Creative Anachronism, which recreates Medieval Europe (think Ren Faires), although the birth of my son and my wife having some health issues has ended that for now.  I dabble in wood working, and have been known to play a guitar now and then.  Most of my time is spent on my 1-to-1 scale house and yard model, with my wife and son, and that little annoyance called work.

I collect fire department patches in my spare time.  I also like to read WWII related books.

Jim: I had a friend in grade school who used to collect those....he fell from the top of the pole while going after a clear green one....unfortunately, he didn't make it.

Jim, I remember when we used to shoot those with our pellet guns as kids back in the early 70's.

I must have destroyed some money.

Reminds me of the prices of high quality knives.

Or good rare insulators. I collect the old glass insulators they once used on telephone poles. I also listen to a lot of music and like astronomy and meteorology.

I've been doing this for about 20 years and have about 80 now. Anyone that complains about a cost of a kit should try to buy a German M42 helmet from WWII, around $800 to $1000 now.

I have three German Shepherds so I spend lots of time training them for obedience competitions, hiking with them and one is a registered therapy dog that I visit a nursing home with.  Also like the shooting sports (service rifle competitions) and keeping my '76 Triumph TR-6 on the road.

     I have found that , yes , I have a new hobby now .What is it? I now docent at the NEW BRAUNFELS RAILROAD MUSEUM ! and their model train layouts . Yep ! I am now into " N " scale trains in a big way . They sure  are neat little things .I may dabble in " Z " scale a little ,even .

   Then there's ,let's see , my woodcarving (boats and  lifesized hummingbirds ) as well as model cars (the buildable kit kind). I have a few die-cast autos , but only because they don't come in plastic. Oh, and of course my books . I love those things and always have .

  I learned years ago , when you get "burnout " it can be fun to go of in a new direction .Besides , this allows you to really flex your craft and history knowledge . Don't want to forget my wonderful ships in all types of media .I even have one underway that if successful ,will be built entirely from soda can metal .properly scaled and detailed of course .

  BICK ,  those wonderful detailed machined pieces are a sight to behold. Thanks for sharing them .That is something I have always wanted to try .  You rock !        Tanker-builder

Used to have a lot,,, but not so much anymore. I have always been the "go out and explore" type. Growing up in the middle of the desert, and having a dad who traveled a lot probably had a lot to do with that. The latest evolution of that for me is Geocaching. If you've never hear of it, it's like a treasure/scavenger hint using a GPS. Again, my dad got me into it. Given how much I love being outside (especially being trapped inside for work) that is my main hobby. Modeling is basically what I do in the evenings while the wife watches TV.

Hey om, 4o6gar here...but now living on Canada's west coast. I don't have a licence here but am thinking of getting it.  73...

i also do most of the cooking and can get elaborate for the 2 of us. made jagerschnitzel and spatzle (not from scratch) tonight. i bike and play racquetball, play some computer wargames but that has really slacked off as my model building has increased. i read a lot but again not as much as 10 years ago.

I like to cook. My wife finds recipes that she thinks are worth a try, and I go at it. We have pretty elaborate family meals on holidays.

I've gotten way past the grilling a steak stage, although that can be a bit of an art in itself.

I also like to read, at lest a book a week. I remember having a bit of a panic as a kid because it dawned on me that there wasn't going to be time to read all of the good books in the world. I was brought up without access to TV at home, which was an immense favor on the part of my parents. My wife on the other hand likes to watch a lot of TV, so it gives me a fair amount of time to model while she watches her shows. I don't miss her because we work together all day.

Or to read.

I collect coins and stamps, do some woodworking as well.  Used to do some wargaming...

Now THAT is unusual....I'm from Western PA which had a lot of coal mines (mostly bituminous) and my grandpap and others used to tell me stories

And as a kid I did a lot of shoveling coal for our furnace!

You often hear wood working, but hardly ever metal machining. What do you make, Bick?

Hi Tim,

I've noticed that there aren't a lot of posts that mention metal lathes. I make a variety of things (for friends - parts for RC model planes or repair parts for OOP engines for example) but when I'm just having fun I like to build engines of various sorts. Here's a pic of a couple: On the left, a 'flame sucker' designed by Phillip Duclos and, on the right a not quite completed compressed air engine.

And the parts for the little CA engine -the stanchions are 0-80 threaded rod:

And I love my little Unimat 3 for making parts for scale plastic models.

I enjoy woodworking, RV travel with my wife, antiques, Civil War studies and battlefield visits, fly fishing, and I seem to be getting into restoring antique tool chests.

I like movies that aren't too over the top. Totally love the outdoors and walking my dogs. I've got a wall of books, half of them read, mostly history and fantasy. Music. I've always been a big fan of various kinds of music, mostly early 70's to mid-80's. A little woodworking too. And my dogs which somehow went from a hobby to something time consuming.

I like gardening and growing some of the hottest peppers in the world.

I raise some Red Wiggler earthworms as well so that they give me one of the best fertilizers in the world.....worm castings.

I also like playing my Carvin DC127 electric guitar (Thanks Karl for the suggestion), collecting and hopefully someday making my own knives.

Metalworking, woodworking, bicycle riding

Outside of model building, my main hobbies are comic book collecting, watching bad movies and reading.  

I enjoy throwing money into the hole in the water that I call my boat.

I research the history of Pennsylvania Anthracite Coal mining, race dirt bikes in the 250 Amateur class (two stroke), and I love to read.

Photography is also fun when I'm exploring...

Between work and other responsibilities,no other full blown hobbies.I do play an occasional round of golf,go to sporting events like baseball and hockey,read,travel,dine out with wife,but no real other hobbies.
