A Great Day for my son

Good for him! He is  now on the path to Eagle as well if he chooses to stay with it. I am so glad that my son did. It has given him many unique memories for the rest of his life, and helped him grow up into a better young man. What they teach is more than just words I will pass on your "well done" to my son Geezer. Thank you.

Well he is now a tad taller than me (not too hard to do... LOL!), runs faster than I ever did, and has topped out in Scouts. I think that he is off to a good start in life. And thank you.

I've said it to my wife when our son does something good like that and will say it to you buddy, "Youre doing something right". Good goin' to your son and to you too!

Stik congrats to your son.  My son is also a scout. He should be getting his Star very soon. He is only 14 so he is well on his way.

I've only got him in height by about an inch.  He is going to tower over me.

I was also a scout stopped at Life. Regret it to this day.  John

It's official now!!! He passed his council board tonite and has now been awarded the rank of Eagle Scout!

Thank you Dave. Yes the whole family is very proud of him. For a boy who was in special ed. for his first few years of school due to serious speech problems makes his achievement here all the more special to us. He has overcome much to get here.

Last Saturday on March 8th we had his Eagle Court of Honor. Everyone of his freinds and family there was very proud of him. And he pleasantly suprised us with a good speech.

Cute couple! I think your son's right arm is out of uniform, though.....A heartfelt congrats to him, and  your family. You can tell how proud you both are. Quite an achievement. My grandson, who is 7, is in the Cub Scouts. Seems to like it a lot and also have some special needs. Placed 3rd in his district for the pinewood derby. only his second car, too.

Thank you my friend. That was the picture taker's son (a close family freind who helped out more than everybody else combined while I was overseas) photo bombing us. I didnt have the heart to crop it out. Congrats to your grandson on the Pinewood Derby. after all teh years of that with my son, I know that alone is not easy... lets just say that some of the kids there have more expert dads' help than others. I hope that yours stays with Scouting. It is a great ptogram for boys giving them so many opportunities they wont get elsewhere. Black powder rifle shooting, flying a plane, rappeling...

Stik, just now saw this thread tonight (Friday 21 March 2014). A HUGE congratulations to your son! That was not an easy accomplishment. You're the proudest-looking pop I ever did see! Any pictures of his project that you could post, per chance?

Congratulations! I got my eagle scout in December of 2012 (I'm 17 now). It's definitely worth while, scouting has already done so much for me and I still have a lot ahead of me. It's nice to know other people are taking advantage of such a great program as well.

A belated congratulations to you on that achievement Derek. I have a very good opinion of Scouting after being involved for all the years that he was. I hope that you continue to be involved with the program.

Question - What happens after you make Eagle Scout? Are you done, or do you have new obligations/responsibilities as an Eagle? Do you eventually retire from this rank? (Kidding on that last one....)

Well he has turned 18 and "aged out" between the time that he earned the rank and the time that he had his court of honor. He can still partake in the program as an adult mentor, but cant hold troop positions anymore. For the under 18 Eagles, they often hold roles such as senior patrol leader or other senior troop leadership positions.

Gotcha. I've always wondered about that. What are his plans now that he's 18?

Jr College after he graduates from high school here in June. Get a job... Or dad will send him down to the recruiters... ;-)

Stik, I'm very happy for you and your family, this is a great time for your son. Thats a fantastic achievement for any teen, one that he'll remember forever and carry those values through life. I guess it could be said for any generation but these are tough times for kids growing up in such a fast paced world with all they're bombarded with. BTW, how is he with plastic and glue?

Thank you Jibber. That bug never really bit him, although we did build a few kits together when he was in grade school. But he does like his Bandai Gundam kits, no glue required, and I got him this kit at his request for his successful completion of his Eagle project...

I've seen a lot of You Tube video on Gundam kits, actually a lot of what they do carries over to our armor kits.

Yes, there was a Gundam show we went to last year that had some really neat builds done. I could see the armor modeling aspects on a few builds there. They are a pretty popular modeling area around here.

My daughter did 3 years at JC and is about to graduate after 2 years at UC Davis.

They've got automatic guaranteed transfer into a UC from JC if he gets his grades and passes his general req.s.

With three years to save up and her living at home and working part time, we were able to pay-as-you-play through UC without too much problem.

I just ran across this thread, and I have to say congratulation to your son Stik!  What a fantastic achievement!  And kudos for you too sir, for that achievement comes with much credit to you I'm sure for encouraging and instilling great values and ethics in him.  As a father of two grown children of which I'm so proud, I know how proud you must be of your son!  Tell him for me, "Good on ya! and keep up the great work!!"
