We were just talking about this in another thread. If you have a recent edition of MS office, you already have 1TB of cloud space with OneDrive. It's already paid for and pretty amazing.

Well that was pretty easy to figure out. At this point, just about anything is better than PB. Those ads drive me crazy.

I use Photobucket, and I have never had the problems I read other people describing.  Any problems I've had with hosting and linking have all been either with my own Internet connection and data transfer speed at home, or our web filter here at work.  Oh, and with the various flavors of HTML and other code that different forums use, which require tweaking the link code a little more, beyond just cutting and pasting the text into a forum post (like here in FSM, and over at Hyperscale).

I did start a paid subscription in 2015, when I finally used up the free space.  I thought about shifting to another host and using up another batch of free space, but in the end, that meant more fussing around to keep the various hosts straight, so I decided to pay for the convenience.

I run a Hobby website on Weebly.com EastMidsModelClub

It allows me to host loads of photos & it took me about 2 years to hit the capacity limit, running 3-5MB unreduced pics, & haven't been troubled by ads.

The free version may suit your needs as I setup folders for galleries like this Gliders,

Or link Directly to a pic, but I run them through MS Photo Gallery to reduce the filesize from 3-5MB to 300KB.

I do use the paid for version now, as I use some of the ahem 'premium' features & bandwidth, but only after several tech issues were sorted.

Yup, broken link on the Amazon image. The Google one seems to be still running but I very much suspect it will break too within the next day or so. Hopefully I am wrong.

Actually Bish, Eric's picture was gone by 1am last night when I looked in my Ipad. Seems like Amazon doesn't work out either.

Eric, just had a look and nothing there. I have figured out Flickr with some help, so will see how that goes. For one thing, can't be any worse than PB.

Less than 24 hours and the Google photos link is dead. Amazon appears to still be functioning.

Just went down and checked, the carrier box and bagged parts still up.

That was timely Eric. have just loaded a pic onto Google but like Flickr couldn't figure out how to load a pic. Your idea worked. I wait with baited breath to see if yours get removed or not.

I know what you mean, it can't be rocket science and its putting me off posting pics at the minute.

There is a problem from what I understand with direct linking using Google Photos or Amazon Photos. I actually right clicked on the image from inside the album and chose copy image link which allowed me to post them here. The downside from my understanding is that the link is temporary and usually changes within 48 hours or so it therefore breaks the image wherever it is posted. I actually spoke with Amazon about direct linking and other than the templink you can get by doing what I said above, they have no way to direct link.

My test? post in the testing forum is using both Amazon and Google and I am monitoring it to see if the links do indeed break after a day or two.

Very hard to believe that finding good photohosting site with direct link capablilites is this hard in this day and age.

Jester

The wife has Amazon Prime so I signed up and have been playing with it however, I can olny post the picture as a link and not a direct picture on the post. Are you having the same issue?

Folks

Thanks for the suggestions. My only concern with the free picture hosting ones is the annoying pop up adds and the possibility of introducing adware files into my pc. I'm no computer guru but that's what I have heard from several people.

I have been linking out of both MS Cloud and Google+ photos.   Its great that I can instantly transfer photos from both my phone and camera right into the account.   Its working well enough that I can now ditch PB and Flikr. Both services have been PIA.

I just tried https://postimage.io/ and it works fine if you copy the direct link and add it using the insert image in the toolbar: Its free also. Once your image is processed, click on the blue buttom next to "Direct link" after the image address.

I'm gonna have to this one a try.

I also used PB for quite a few years, and it was getting really slow, all the ads were a big pain in the rear.  Then one day every time I tried to upload something it would bounce me back to the log in page!  I landed up signing up with imgur.com.  It's free, and it hasn't given me any issues yet.  So keeping my fingers crossed.

Just noticed that Amazon also has a cloud hosting platform that is free with Prime membership. Going to give it a go. As for ImageShack, I like the site and interface but their customer service is absolute garbage. I somehow got signed up for two memberships and had the monthly fee deducted twice. I have emailed them countless times with zero responses. Once was even a report notification of nudity/porn on thier site and no response.

Bish

I signed up to flickr last night. It ran ok but seems a bit awkard to get around. I am going to stick with it for my next build and see how it goes.

I don't usually post here, in fact I think this is my first, but I thought I'd add my vote for Flickr. I've been using it for a while to post on another forum and so far it works well for me. It does take a little getting used to, but one you get used to it I think you'll like it. It's real easy to upload from my iPhone and then I do most of my organization on from the computer.

Since this is my first post here, I'm not familar with inserting links and photos, but here's a try.

If you'd like to take a look, here's a link to My Albums. If that doesn't work (first time I've tried to post a link to that), here is my current build, Italeri P-51D/K Pacific Aces. And lastly, a photo...

Decal'ed and Clearcoat'ed

Addin the photo was tricky, in Flickr I had to use the Share button and select Embed and select and appropriate size. I then copied that and inserted it into the source view for this post. I hope that was right! It seems to work here.

I hope this helps someone!

fermis

My computer was slowing down to snail speed and feared I had a virus so I had a computer repair place I trust check my PC 3 years ago. The the tech told me I had over 500 adware files in the system. I mentioned the pop ups from PB which I never opened but he said PB is one place to get these adware files. Since I swithched to Image Shack I havent had a single adware file in my system during my last check up when I had them increase the RAM size.

Now I read a bunch or reviews stating that ImageShack is a ripoff and that they keep loosing one's pictures. As a matter of fact I have noticed a few pictures that simply vanished from my album. The hasle now is repalcing the newer pictures posted on modeling sites.

I just wish Photobucket would go back to the way it was...about 6 "fixes" ago. They have gotten ridiculous with the pop up adds lately...freezes up half the time...editor is a joke, even when/if it does work...bogs down everything else I have going on(music). It seems to be OK, maybe...maybe 10% of the time, once you close out the adds...I may be being quite generous with that 10%.

plasticjunkie,

I have had success using the Google photo apps-Picasa for my desktop, and (originally) Picasa online for the forum code. Both are free through Google. I think a gmail account is required though. However, the online version of of Picasa ceased, and it is now through Google Photos. I am still trying to figure out exactly how it works, but you can check out my posts and you can see that it does work.

Hope this helps.

Had PB for a while and had a lot of issues so I switched to Image Shack which I like a lot. The problem is that my subscription since 2014 cost $18.99 a year. Well today I get the expiration notice and a renewal price of $40! Indifferent I sent them a message inquiring about the price doubling but haven't heard anything yet as I'm not planning on paying the increase.

So just in case I have to switch then I will be looking for alternatives. Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
