Hello Keyda81;

I like the fact that you are using the wall method . I don't have a lot of display space ( I rent part of a private home ) So when it gets to much , in boxes they go to be given away .When my late wife was not my late wife , she Insisted that I display my work where folks could see them .That's hard in an R.V. !

When folks have hobbies and can share I think that's great .By the way , Which company did you go with on the Paper C-130 ?  T.B.

Keyda, I see no problem here. It's your home and your passions should be displayed as you see it. I've always wondered why model builders hide away weeks or months of work never to be seen again but by them. I never defend my passions or my hobby nor should you. I started to show my passion related decor but didn't want to hijack your post so I'll try to post my ideas on the subject soon. Meanwhile enjoy yours!  Smile

I'll never understand hiding them away either.  Not too many people that come to my house even look at them, lol.  But I at least sit here and enjoy looking at them.

Currently working an a A-7 Corsair to display next to the Fury.  I felt like I needed more than one Navy plane.

One Navy plane!!!! OMG you need several F-14s and F-4s. The Navy has so many colorful schemes that it's hard to have only one or two.Wink

I do have an F-4, but it's not a Navy version.  They are my favorite jet, so I'll probably do a few more versions of them, I'll make sure I have one to represent the Navy.  I'll add an F-14 to the collection some day as well.  My wish list remains bigger than my stash, and completed models, lol.

Hi Keyda 81 :

That's alright . If I tried to remember all the companies who do the ships I have , I would crash and burn . I was fascinated by the Harrier . There was a twin office bird that came to Little Rock airport for an Airshow .

My company was asked ( invited ! to send a V.I.P. for a flight . No one took it . ) finally it got down to " Look We arranged for fuel for so many V.I.P. flights  , Who have you got ? "

Lowly old me . Instrument and cockpit repair dept , Installation Supervisor , Not considered a V.I.P. in Arkansas at that time . Got the nod . I would've boarded that Bird without a flight suit , believe me ! WOW !! we danced to the Vienna Waltz ! 200 feet off the ground in front of the crowd , after a fly around . Geeeez ! I have never forgotten that !

My first wife , now , after seeing a 1/144 bombed up version on my bench said it looked like a " Mad Mosquito " . You Know I finally realized what I miss most in life .Two fine Ladies who loved my hobby along with me .

The wall method works great for most . Now I have found The best height for mine , are near the ceiling . My Siamese gets a bug in her butt and tries to attack them . Sometimes she'll try for almost and hour before giving up . She will watch them sometimes for hours . I guess she thinks they are " Birds " of the variety she's supposed to eat ? LOL .LOL .  T.B.

If my cats are looking at anything on the wall, it's some sort of bug.  Maybe it's because they are 10 yrs old they just never pay any mind to my models.  Now feathers dangling from my dream catchers are another story.  Big Smile

Keyda81, I think it would be great to have a signficant other who enjoyed the same hobby. Face to face benches. Exchange of ideas, and praise of each others work, would lead to some really nice work. I'm sure it could be tough at times, different opinions from time to time, but still nice builds. Aardvark

It would be nice.  But then the house would fill up twice as fast with models, lol.  Hubby doesn't quite understand why I enjoy it so much, he told me once if he spent all that time building something he would rather be able to fly it.  Hence the reason he builds R/C stuff!  He had me put together an F-16, but we haven't had a chance to get out and try to fly it yet.

Why didn't I see this thread before? A lighted C130, love it! I do keep my models in glass display cases though, dust, and the fact that I would probably break 1/2 of them within a month if they were out in the open.

I started with plastics. Then finally moved up to RC in the mid to late 80s. Another detective that was in my unit tought me all about RC and successfully got me to solo and land using a Sureflite 54" foam Cessna high wing powered by an  OS .20 glow. Then I moved up to larger planes and eventually to 1/4 scale. I built a Bud Nosen 1/4 scale Citabria with a G24 up front about 1988 and still have it today. Your husband should have a good idea of what I'm describing.

However I kept coming back to plastics every time.

RC is very unique and personal. The hobby has come a long way since the 1980s. My only beef is when "accidents" happen and great flying models are destroyed. I guess it's part of the hobby.

Keyda, decor is the word. Here's a couple more from the overflowed Museum. My wife has her own rooms but really likes the historical motorcycle that I raced a half century ago. (Hmm, the P-40 is also that old, yikes!) Also being a photographer eats up most wall space. I think I have too many hobbies but what could be better decor than one's passions? I think I'm outta space! Sad

Similar to PJ I started with plastics, moved to RC in the 90’s but never really got out of the .60 - .90 range. A couple years back I started converting to smaller electric but don’t really have any place practical to fly. The fields are either too far or too expensive so I hung everything up in the garage (7 of them), went back to plastic and never looked back.
Somebody is going to have fun when I go.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

waikong, yep the lighted C-130 was a fun build.  Hubby helped with that one too, I'm not big on electrical stuff, lol.  I just don't have room for display cases, and I do break them periodically when dusting.  Usually nothing to serious.  Only a few of them have been back upstairs for repairs.

goldhammer, it's fan.  I knocked it down when attempting to get the weed whacker down, and have to glue some pieces back together, lol.  I still prefer plastic models.  A little bit smaller of a chance they will get broken, lol.

plasticjunkie, I totally understand that.  I go through a series of emotions if a model gets broken, lol.  The first emotion tends to stir up some not so nice words!

Hodakamax, all I can say is wow!  That has to be the coolest lighting fixture/fan I've ever seen!  I have a completely bare living room ceiling that would look awesome with a C-130 prop, lol!

Hey Bobby and Keyda, I bought the P-40 ceiling fan years ago. I just did a Google search and they still make it along with other props and aircraft. Check it out!

Ditto It's ridiculous how much the clubs want out here and the list of requirements. On top of that last year Obama passed the new FFA regs requiring the RC Modeler to register with that agency along with another fee.

Needless to say my stuff is also hanging from the garage ceiling.

That sucks.  I'm not sure if there is any restrictions or what not around here.  I'm sure staying away from the airport with it would be a good start, lol.  I was thinking of a park not too far from us, but the C-130's, and incoming commerical flights do fly by the park.

The only added "restriction" is that if your within 3 miles of an airport, you call and notify them that you are flying.

The registration thing is a joke and I hope it dies out or gets recinded.

Technically you are to stay under 400'.

There are "Temparary Flight Restrictions" TFR's that are issued daily.  There was one just issued right after we bombed Syria stating that if your within 3 miles of a military base, you must fly under 400'.  A lot of these will prevent any flying within 30 miles of Air Force One or some other high profile government operation.

I gotta have my RC flying fix or else building anything with wings drives me crazy.  I love my static models, but for me nothing beats starting up a 1/4 scale F4U, flying it, then doing a perfect landing.

Ironically, I do not belong to club, like others, the politics can be a pain. I have worked a deal to fly off a closed runway at a local airport.

Storing them can be "interesting".  They do make great conversation pieces when hanging off the living room ceiling, but then they start leaking and dripping fluids and that doesn't go too well with everyone else who lives in the house.  So off to the basement and garage they go.

Oh and my RC problem is just as bad as my plastic problem, I cannot have just one, and also have a "stash" of RC models.

And I have a small house.

Hubby has many Traxxas vehicles, electirc and nitro.  He also has a gas powered King motors buggy.  Also bins and bins, and boxes of spare parts, servos, linkages, remotes, you name it he has it!  I think that's were his whole mentality comes from of taking the time to build it, and being able to drive/fly it.  He doesn't get how I can spend all that time building something, just to hang it on the wall and look at it.  But I love admiring the birds just hanging out in the living room, especially the Herc's.Smile

I can fully understand both points of view Keyda.  My artistic, mellow, let life be cool personality allows me to build static models, both planes and sailing ships, and spend hours admiring them on the shelf. But then the engineer, gear head, more power, get r done personality comes out and then I have to build a 1/4 scale fighter plane, nitro speed boat, or a rocket.  It has to move and spew oil or else I get board.  I get over it, usually end up crashing something, then I'm back in my happy place building plastic models.

I have never built that kit, and like the looks of it.  You did a fine job and it does look good next to another Navy jet.
