Hello!
I'm transmitting from Poznań, western Poland. Here I am, for forty years I got used to world without war nearby - and it doesn't take long to get used to a good thing.
And today morning I start reading about the Kiev airport being shot at... Antonov plant being captured by the airborne - that just plain sucks.
Three hours ago I thought maybe I should fill the tank of my car up, just to avoid paying more, as the oil prices are already going up... Looks like I'm not the only one with that idea - the lines at the gas stations already start forming.
So it's a sad day - and I wanted to let you know how quick things can change for the worse. One thing for sure - we're cursed with living in very interesting times! Let's hope for the best and prepare... Thanks for reading and take care
Paweł

There's much I could write here about the invasion. We all have our own opinions but I rather not express them here. Our hobbies let us escape the horrors of the world. Stay safe Pawel.
Tough to watch and I can't imagine living next door to it all. Stay safe Pawel.
Thanks,
John
As to fuel prices, ours are going to take a big jump, even though very little if any comes from the region. Some is due to other countries paying more per barrel, and some from flat out greed.
Along with everyone else, wish you the best, and keep your head down.
Thoughts & prayers go out to you Pawel. Your country has suffered so badly throughout history. Take care & stay safe.

Thanks a lot for your kind words, friends and let's remember I have it so much better still than the poor Ukrainians, I mostly mean the civilians. Take care
Hey Pawel, I am thinking of you. Both my parents and a few aunts and uncles were born and lived in Poland during Nazi occupation. Both my parents were in Nazi work camps.
You are in my thoughts and prayers. Praying for peace.
Stay safe Pawel, and I sincerely pray that this thing going on does not completely blow up into the surrounding neighborhood. My thoughts go out to the people of Ukraine.

Pawel,
Here in the US there are so many people who have family or history back in Europe. We all care A LOT about what happens to you all and keep you in our thoughts and prayers.
One of my current clients has a son and daughter-in-law in Ukraine. He could leave but she couldn't, so they are both still there.
I give her a hug whenever I see her.

I keep hitting "escape", but I'm still here.
Be safe; I like to count you among my friends.
Hello friends!
Thank you so much for your kind words, they mean a lot to me. The night was quite peaceful in Poland, unlike Ukraine. I read that thousands of refugees are coming to eastern Poland. I wonder what the economy will do now. Until now Poland was getting all the oil and most of the gas from Russia, I wonder if this is going to change now...
Like I wrote - interesting times...
Thanks again, I'll keep you posted and have a nice day!
Hi Pawel, You are in our thoughts and prayers and certainly those in Ukraine that are suffering so much are as well. It has been rather busy in this area lately. Several thousand ground troops and several more F15s have deployed to Poland recently. Hopefully these terrible events will cool off quickly. Stay safe and perhaps some bench time is a good distraction.
Gil
Yeah Pawel, good luck and God bless you, your friends and family and the people of Eastern Europe. Hope this mess blows over soon with a minimum of pain and suffering. (There's been enough already...)

I'm sorry this had to happen in your part of the world.
Best of luck to you Pawel, and to all of your friends.
Stay safe and be well, Pawel.

Well said. So am I, Pawel. I can't honestly imagine what it must be like having all of this going on right next door, so to speak.
May you wake up every morning to a peaceful day.
Thank you for your prayers and for your kind words.
Right now things calmed down a bit, in Poland at least - the lines at gas stations and grocery stores subsided as people saw there will be no shortages for now. The question is still open as to what is going to happen to the economy.
In the news they say 100 000 refugees from Ukraine are already in Poland or under way. They are going to join many more Ukrainians that are already in Poland working here and looking for better conditions than they had at home. Poland and Ukraine have a complicated history of relations, but now Polish people sympathise with the Ukrainians and try to show support.
And in the news they say Ukraine and especially Kiew is expecting the coming night to be especially tough and maybe decisive as to what is going to happen next.
Thanks for reading and have a nice day
Take care of yourself Pawel. We all are praying that you and your family and friends are and will be safe. You will be kept in all our prayers.
Thanks a lot for your kind words, friends!
It's a little over a week that the war is going on - sure feels a lot longer. Over half a milion of Ukrainian refugees managed to come to Poland and still counting.
And here's an AWACS or a tanker on station right over my home - I've seen something like this for a first time...
My best greetings for you and have a nice day
Greetings, Pawel -
Please accept my sympathy, for the terrible war conditions and invasion happening so close to you. I send my best wishes for the safety of you, your family, and the people of all of the countries so close to Ukraine.
All the best from Oregon, USA.
Be well, Pawel.
Patrick
Or maybe we could just avoid the political rants altogether and offer our support and encouragement to Pawel and others that could really use it during these difficult times.
Thanks a lot, I'm doing quite all right. In the meantime we have over 2 Millions of refugees from Ukraine - mainly women and children. Even in western Poland where I live you can see them every day and they need help.
Have a nice day
Pawel: When I was employed at the University of Idaho Agricultural Experimental Startion at Aberdeen, Idaho, we had a student from Eastern Poland named Tadeuse Beneschavez studing potato cultivation. I wonder if you ever known this person. He speaks almost perfect English. I often wonder how Tadeuse and his family are adjusting to the Ukraine crisis.

Stay strong Pawel, I wish I was in a position to offer more than prayers to those displaced as well as those selfless people doing their best to help. We are all effected by this. As stated above you are considered a friend. Thank you for your reports and support.
I also agree with the majority of members who have posted....the only policy we should debate on the forums is the true color of OD.
Pawel started this thread because he is a member of our community and wanted to let others in the community know how he's doing and what he's experiencing. Posts expressing concern, empathy, sympathy, and the like, are all welcome. Please keep your politics and political opinions to yourself. As I posted elsewhere, the ongoing war in Ukraine is not a forbidden topic, but keep the politics out of it. If that is too challenging (which is understandable), then avoid the topic altogether while on the Forum and save your views for another venue.
Pawel, though we may try, rarely can words adequately express the grief and horror many of us feel when we see what is unfolding in Ukraine, and I do not have the time to ponder my word choice to meet the gravity of this moment for this post. Suffice it to say, unreserved thanks to Poland and other countries whose citizens have opened their arms to accept Ukrainian refugees. And we cannot but hope our various nations can bring this war to a close, sooner rather than later, ending the bloodshed and violence. Be safe. Be well. Take care.
