F-8Fanatic has it. The system was developed with the IFF gear obtained from MiGs. It was mounted with the Radar on a small number of Air Force F-4s just prior to Linebacker and allowed those Phantoms to positively ID the MiG electronicly as such BVR, thus allowing engagement. The highest MiG Killing Phantom, F-4D 463 had this system.

Yes, I suspect F8F has little access to being on here these days.

Well, a chap has a week to reply before it's first come, first served.

This chap may have a week to reply, but he managed to hold the show up for nearly 3 weeks just recently!

His question gets tipped, there are something like 25 responses in 3 days, some from new users & then this "chap" show up again, provides the correct answer & then for whatever reason leaves the who thing waiting for his glorious return.

It starting to urinate forum members off - "Chap" should not get involved if he cant / won't reply.

The question was handed over to him on 3/30 around 1240 hrs PST. He has less than 72 hours to post a new question or we open up to a new one, per the rules.

I think, from the next question onwards, we reduce the time to 72 hours (3 days), from 1 week.

Here is the orignal post time limit

Just to further clarify, if the last person to answer the question correctly does not post another question , or if no one can answer a difficult question within a five-day week, the forum is open to anyone who wishes to posit the next question.

So as of 1240 or so tomorrow PST, time is up again. Five days, AKA 120 hours.Whistling

Milairjunkie

 osher:

Well, a chap has a week to reply before it's first come, first served.

This chap may have a week to reply, but he managed to hold the show up for nearly 3 weeks just recently!

His question gets tipped, there are something like 25 responses in 3 days, some from new users & then this "chap" show up again, provides the correct answer & then for whatever reason leaves the who thing waiting for his glorious return.

It starting to urinate forum members off - "Chap" should not get involved if he cant / won't reply.

first off, how's about you back yourself down a notch or three?

Second, how's about you try being honest?  I did NOT hold up the show.  I posted a question.  It isnt my fault that people couldnt read what was posted, and thus made wild guesses that went against what the question and subsequent hints even said.  I posted that last question of mine on 2/27....not one single response for several days, so on 3/3 I posted a hint.  A couple responses later, I posted again on 3/5.  A couple more responses, I posted again another hint the very next day.  I am so sorry to disappoint you that I am not able to be on here every single day, but the rules in this thread are what they are.  If a couple days is too long for you to wait for someone to get back in and post a reply, then go start your own thread and make your own rules in it.  Simple as that.  You have no idea how ridiculous it makes someone look to be complaining about having to wait like this.  The thread has a rule in place for just such a thing, so please, do me a favor and get over yourself.  Some of us, being cancer survivors and the like, dont always have the ability or the means to hop on here just to appease milairjunkie.....

Third, there werent 25 responses to the entire question I posted unless you include mine too, so I must ask, what are you smoking?  You claimed 25 responses in 3 days....why lie?  there were a total of 15 responses, not counting my posts, in the whole time this question was on the table--ending with you posting a new question of your own!   And another thing, I only provided the answer because it was requested that I do so.  Unlike you, milair, I at least have enough respect to consider our other members here....

This is supposed to be for fun, maybe you need to take a step back or three and think about why you seem to be taking it just a tad bit too seriously, "chap".....

And now that I'm done taking out the trash, here's the question.

This aircraft was built by an American company, although the company was backed by a large Japanese entity.  The plane was quite often confused with the Curtiss Jenny, an issue that Curtiss actually contributed to.  The Army did purchase some, but they were deemed to be unsuitable thanks to their engines.  Back in the day, a civilan pilot's first move upon buying one of these was usually to swap out the engine and replace it with the OX-5 powerplant.  Name the plane....

"there werent 25 responses to the entire question I posted unless you include mine too, so I must ask, what are you smoking"

There were 24 posts following the F-4 PPC question.

"Unlike you, milair, I at least have enough respect to consider our other members here"

The long pauses during "the long question" were stagnating the thread, as more than just I had mentioned, is that considerate to other members.

"appease milairjunkie....."

As I mentioned, there were newer members getting involved.

I concede to the fact that I jumped the gun with my 2nd "rant", for which I apologise, but after the long duration of the first question concerned, I wrongly assumed that everyone may be in for a long wait, again as others suggested.

I appreciate what the rules state, but if every question were to wait for full allowed time I suspect the thread would die - especially considering the number of new users that are now on-board.

I am not smoking anything & I don't want appeased - I just don't want the thread to disappear into obscurity.

1--it doesnt make any difference how many posts there were, when the answer came those posts were already history.  Is this thread for fun, or for post count?

2--when I was a "newer member" and I had to on many occasions look five or six pages deep to find this thread again, you didnt hear me crying about it.  Stuff happens in people's lives, and in my case, one of those "stuffs" happens to be two different kinds of cancer over the last several years.  If the newer members here are going to have such a problem with that fact, just say the word and I'll simply vacate your glorious forum.  In the meantime, you have no business telling ANYONE that if they cannot perform to your liking they need to stop taking part.  Like the original poster in this thread stated, this is for FUN.  Perhaps you need to stop taking it too seriously already.  Think it over....Another thing--so there were newer members here.  Where do you get off thinking that because a newer member posted, that you can treat an existing member like crap?  how much sense does that make?

3--I didnt ask you to wait for every question.  What I do expect, however, is when it does happen that you dont climb up on your high horse like that.  You dont have any idea what the other person has going on, and your quick rush to judgment is simply absurd.  And on a forum like this, in a thread like this thats supposed to be "just for fun", if this is your attitude, then you arent having fun and perhaps YOU should reconsider YOUR participation instead of telling others to get out.

Finally, you dont want the thread to disappear.  Hello?!?  This thread has been here for five years.  It starts, it stops, it starts, it stops.  It has NOT been a continuous nonstsop event.  So, the fact that you made such a big deal about having to wait a few days is just silly.

This whole mess is done.  Its finished.  You said some really dumb things and got way ahead of yourself.  Do us a favor, and if youre REALLY interested in this thread so much, leave those mistakes where they are and dont draw this mess out.  There's a question on the table.....maybe you can "have a little fun" and work on an answer.  After all, youre so concerned about the thread, right?  Well, the thread's open to an answer right now.  let's leave this at that and move on already.

no, it wasnt you.  It was someone else's high and mighty attitude that really needs some checking around here.

The Standard it is.  All yours, milair.  And just so that you wont feel the need to rant on in the future like an idiot because someone with cancer issues doesnt post frequently enough for you, I'll simply step aside from this thread in the future.  Nevermind that I have been a frequent contributor  in this thread or anything, a new member showed up so I simply became less important to milairjunkie's grand plan for this place.  Nevemind also the fact that the forum needs current members just as much as new ones.....but hey, what I do I know, right?

Good luck with your endeavor to keep the thread from stagnating, against all odds and common sense.

Having a laugh, playing a game, and giving people new knowledge. Your never too old to learn something new and your never too young to learn something old Smile

F-8, please don't take umbrage to the thread in general, but, carry on.  You're most respected here, and I, for one, would be greatly saddened to see you depart.

This British aircraft came into service in the 1930's, and remained in essence unchanged, throughout it's production life, which last into the post-war era (unlike, say a Spitfire, which radically changed).  What is it?

DeHavilland Tiger Moth?

If I'm right, someone else can ask the next -- it would be a lucky guess, basically.

Nice try, but, no.  This aircraft was a lot larger.  Very few aircraft were significantly unchanged, from start to end, especially when the production run was from pre-war to post-war.

I'm going to have to go with your first answer, the Anson, which is wrong.  However, of your other 3 guesses, one is American, and, of the other two, one was radically transformed, whilst the other is the correct answer.

As a clue: the designer of the aircraft was one of Britain's best.  However, ironically, he's best known for another aircraft, from another company, which he did not design.  Kudos if you can guess the designer, the other aircraft, and why he's associated with it.

im gonna go with the vickers wellington as ive found photos of the blenheim in multipul configurations but ive found the wellington post war pasanger liner still looking like a bomber, it was famous for its latticework construction. Um the other aircraft, was it one of the V bombers?

This should be a no-brainer. In fact, he has several associations with this aircraft, but is best known for one in particular.
