Nice plane (reminds me of the Lockheed Vega I'm building at the moment). What was the 2nd of the transatlantic attempts?

Time to answer I guess. It's the Stinson Detroiter monoplane.

On Aug. 21 of 1927 Paul Redfern flew his heavily loaded "Detroiter", the "Port of Brunswick", out of Brunswick, Georgia on this way to Rio de Janeiro. In due course he lost his way and finally crash landed in the jungle thicket of British Guiana.

The "American Girl" was another well-known Stinson "Detroiter" monoplane; it was flown by Gee. Haldeman and the comely Ruth Elder across the Atlantic Ocean, or nearly so. They bad to crash-land in the sea near the Azores Islands. Luckily, they were picked up by a nearby steamer and brought in to safety in Oct. of 1927.

We have 50 of those down here (25 C2 and 25 C7), and are the backbone of our airforce, it isn't much compared to superpower airforces, but those birds are a vital help to keep madman Hugo Chavez at the other side of the border.... and now he bought 25 Su-30's...Angry [:(!]

Bondoman your turn!

Best of luck, JG!! I hope it never comes to that with Chavez.

I'll have NO politics in my trivia or you disqualify your opponent!

Here's a good opportunity to welcome jgonzalez to our Forum.

This is a truly international forum that is a little bit blog, a LOT chat, and mostly aircraft modeling experts and nubies that want to pull up a keyboard and chat.

My turn, my rules.

I work for a living which means I respect the rest of you as such. I will not answer this ? until 1200 GMT Saturday December 21.

Maybe multiple winners, but I think NOT!!

Clarification: Aircraft type, not actual aircraft- there were two involved.

What AC is based on a very succesfull euro design, modified to acomodate an american engine and is built by a third country?

More clues as needed.

The BJ-58 (B-58C, production variant) comes to mind.  She was in fact a "high speed" version of the B-58A Hustler, with an enlarged body and with the same engines used by the SR-71 Blackbird.  Conavir hoped that this proposal will be a low cost alternative to the Valkyrie and a more versatile weapon with  more conventional sorties.  She was also proposed as a bomber/fighter, filling the gap between the B-70 and the F-108 Rapier.  None of the mentioned ACs ever made it to the production line.

There was also another variant of the Hustler using the J-58 engines (the ones of the Sr-71)proposed for the SST race, and as with the BJ-58, the proposal was denied in favor of a more expensive and complex solution: Boeing's... And again, none were ever built...

Finally I got it. I wouldn't have thought a glider would be in active service for training.

New Question:
This project was proposed as an alternative to the more expensive and more complex XB-70 Valkyrie. The program was cancelled however and none of these aircraft flew. It was a modification of an existing aircraft. What was the aircraft and what does it share in common with another high-speed aircraft?

I will be away until the weekend so post away and I will check the answers on Saturday.

Righto!  It was known as the Slingsby Venture, when in RAF service.  It has a 45 hp engine, which unlike most other self-towing gliders is located in a conventional manner in the nose.  On to you!

Alex

Short Tacano? Or the T-6 Texan II? It is a turboprop trainer which could make it different and it looks kind of different.
