Looks well worth a visit. Shame they restored the Spit with the earlier "wimpy" sharks teeth!!! The later ones didn't look quite so friendly!!!! That looks like a somewhat unusual nose on that B25 too

In the queue: 1/48 Beech Staggerwing (RAAF), P38 (RAAF), Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), Martin Baltimore (Malta?), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)

The real truth about that spit is its a full scale replicia and not a restored one.

I can fully recommend a visit to the museum. Seeing a B52 in this setting really gives an idea how big they are in comparison with other aircraft.

Luke I have been there once before now I think about it.

Around about 18 years ago.
Family trip, my Dad reminded me this morning when I spoke to him.

But it wasn't the same site, same museum, but a different location.

That was the same trip we had a major car crash thanks to a DUI twit.

One thing I'm gonna try and do is slip them a lot more cash and try and get some real close up pics of the Sabre cockpit, and hopefullu the B-52.

I have a 1/72 scale Monogram B-52 in the closet, cause there is nowhere else to put the damn thing.

IT'S SO BLEEDIN BIG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Story is, American friend of mine thought he would be a funny bugger for my 29th birthday.

Jokes on him, this year on his bday, I'm sneaking into his house and putting it in his bed.

WITH SUPER GLUE!!!!!!

Big Smile [:D]

Question [?]Tweety1 have you decided what SQD markings your putting on your Sabre yet.

when i went to Hobby One today they had a 76 SQD sabre conversion on display, after seeing the completed model i thought yep it's a must have.
If i finish it in time i might add it to the GB as well as the SPIT 9 only thing is i don't want to do the same scheme as you.

whadda ya reckon about swanny's Allclad 2 posting.

j.s - I have been hiding in the other forums this is the first time I've checked out the general discussion forum. Heres a bit of info about me.

I am 19 years old and live on the south coast of NSW. I've been modelling on an off since I was about 10 but have only just gotten right into it (ie taking a bit more seriously). I got into the hobby because I've always loved aircraft. My uncle has also had a big influence on my model building. I am into music and guitars (none of that hip hop rubbish) and lots of different sports.

By the way j.s I think your sniperkitty may need therapy. Or at least send him to sort out those hopeless rugby league players you breed up there.

P.S. go the blues

Ok, j.s., the 76 SQN comes with the kit, so yeah, have to rty and find something else decal wise.

I have a list of around 6? other markings for the Sabre, but as for whether I can find them retail, or have to organise someone to print em up, I'm not sure atm.

As for Swanny's site, bloody brilliant.
I posted a reply on his info post, stating what happened to the Alclad finish on my P-38.

Hopefully I can find something for my Sabre.

Cute kitty, I especially like the star around his neck, kinda draws your attention away from the BIG RUDDY GUN he is holding.

I just did a quick flick through the family album, and finally realised why my kitty is so freaked out.

This is him after his first trip to the hairdresser.

Then he took up drinking, and would pass out where ever he fell.

So we took him and the dog to the vet.
The cat was cured, but the dog had a violent flashback to when he got the snip.

Ahhhh, the memories!

Tweety1 i should get my Sabre on Friday it's coming from Highplanes models in Vic i won't be adding it to the GB though ive already got 4 on the go at the moment Spitfire 9 and spitfire 1 for the GB + BF 109 E3 of 3rd JG26 and a Panzer4 Flakpanzer i used the weathering with salt tecnique on the flakpanzer and it looks great, just have to paint all the tools and all those bloody wheels.

Hey i had a thought ridin around on my little postie bike today, after the Aussie GB you should start a Sabre GB plenty of countries used them so there's plenty of different Sabre subjects.
Also thought a U boat GB would be cool.I've just scored REvells 1/72 type 7C Uboat much to my wifes dismay.
Big Smile [:D]LOLBig Smile [:D]on your shaved kitty looks half ROO.i've had to punish my kitty he started popping of the neighbours budgies.

Pingtang RE: State of Origin now mate without Johns we all know an under 12s team could hammer the Blues.
But seriously i think the Blues will clean up this year no Tallis or Lockyer .

PS Lobbie is looking into CAC SAbre decals.

Hey all, just wondering if someone here has some info on diorama accesories.

I'm building a diorama to suit a Panther G tank, and need some stuff that resembles grass to place on the ground.
I've already got some long grass and some underbrush sorta stuff, but something that resembles real grass I can't seem to find.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks all

Sean

Sean, I agree with chris, model railway supplier is a good source for this sort of stuff. If you wish and give me an idea what effect you are after I may be able to find some material suitable amongst my model railway supplies that I can send you. If I can't do that I have a friendly model railway hobby shop just down the road that I could get it from.

P.S. Does anyone have the current url for the group build badge that they could post for me.

Thanks South AussieSmile [:)]
Basically I'm after a turf type of ground cover.
I've read a few things about the train supplies, but be damned if I can figure it out.

Something that would render an unkept look, kinda like a golf course 'rough'.
Better still, you ever seen a hald dead lawn in someones front yard?
Thats what I'm trying to acheive, also some small shrubs.

Sorry if my explanation seems a little vague.Question [?]

Tweety1, Visited model railway shop, the best stuff to use is known as static grass, this consists of very fine fibres, could not find any of a colour that would be suitable for a half dead lawn. I have a couple of my fiqures where I used this material on the base, will try to post photos of them as soon as my website is activated (within the next 24hrs they say). There is also a similar product that is of the same material that has already be attached to a sheet of paper. Both of these products could be airbrushed to acheive the effect you want. I would not go for the foam type scenic material, did a trial run yesterday, did not look real although it could be used to make same bushes or plants.

Will be happy to round up the materials for you if you wish.

Love itBig Smile [:D]

As for the Sabre, if Lobbie can find some other decals to suit the RAAF versions, that would be great.
Since looking into it, I've developed a bit of a soft spot for the Sabre, but only the Aussie version, the F-86 strikes me as many other American jets, kinda boring.

But a Sabre group build would be a good idea, but I doubt many of our American friends would be as interested, due to the NMF required.
After our GB, I'll wack a post in the A/C section, and see what happens.

South Aussie, thanks for looking into the grass thing for me.
I have found one from Woodland Scenics, they call it Fine Turf.

Going to have to see if anyone in Oz has the stuff, in the Earth colour.

Question [?]I'm hoping you guys can help me with this one,i have a b/w photo of Bluey Truscott taxying his P 40 on what appears to be that mesh runway that the Americans came up with for the Pacific theater.
Now i remember seeing an add for Verlinden in FSM magazine that showed the same runway mesh but i can't seem to find it ,my LHS only stocks whats new.
So the question is do any of you Blokes no where i can get some here in Oz.Question [?]

My highplanes CAC Sabre arrived today,it's just as well that i'm not making it for the GB cause she looks fairly labour intensive.
It came with the markings for 3 SQD,76 SQD and 2nd OCU [marksmen]as well as 2 different Sabres of the RMAF.
But i still wouldn't mind doing the Black Diamonds Sabre.
Looks like your right tweety Sabre's get into your blood[well the CAC Sabre does]I'm so temted to shelf my other projects and start it now but if theres going to be a Sabre GB i'll save it for that.
[PS] If our American friends are reluctant to do a Sabre GB because of the NMF i have a plate showing a F86 of the Korean war 48-261 painted Olive Drab.
[PS] Canadian Sabres wore a 2 tone camo scheme as well.

j.s. that mesh runway is called Pierced Steel Plating or PSP. Go to www.verlinden-productions.com and do a search using the number 1736 then click on the link that comes up. hopefully that is the kind of thing your looking for. For a simpler version try the number 0884 in your search. As far as getting it locally you might try Frontline Hobbies but I couldn't find it on thier site and if they have to order it in you will wait a looooong time. In that case you may be better off just ordering it from Squadron or even Verlinden themselves. Hope this helps.

Cheers...Snowy

Thanks for the info South, I'll check em out.

j.s., I can't see a Sabre in anything other than NMF, just wouldn't do it justice imho.

Could you post a pic of the Highplanes kit, and decals?

I'm tossing up between the High Planes model, or using the F-86 and purchasing the upgrade kit to suit the Avon. For the hell of it you see.

Yep, there were Australian licence built Mustangs. I was speaking to a guy who works at the Army Air Museum at Oakey, and he was telling me that at the end of the war there were loads of American built Mustangs still in their crates at Oakey, and they were simply scrapped while they continued to build Mustangs under licence in order to protect aircraft industry jobs. Apparently they didn't even take them out of the crates. They just burned the crates from around them because it was easier that way. Red Roo do markings for an Aussie built Mustang of 78 Sqn, and also for one in civilian colours circa 1962-3.
