Ah, World at War!!!!

That was a fantastic doco.
Remember watching that with my Dad when I was much much younger.
Australians at War, never seen that one, will hunt it down though.

War File and Clash Of Wings rings a bell, but the one I am thinking of was PURELY about Aus and NZ a/c.
It's there, in the clutter I call my mind, just have to push ALOT of crud out of the way first.

Might as well stick with the trendCool [8D]

QUOTE: I'm trying like buggery to remember an ABC show I saw around 6 months ago that gave a pretty good listing of the a/c used by Aus and NZ, kind of a documentary based mainly on awareness.

If you have an ABC shop near you have a look in there they have most of the doco's on DVD or VHS that they show on TV..here's a few that I remember..
maybe they might jog your memory..

World at War set
Australians at War
War File
Clash of Wings - Vol 1
Clash of Wings - Vol 2
Clash of Wings - Vol 3
Clash of Wings - Vol 4

Yeah mate, there was some great footage on that show. I've never seen the footage of the beaufighters before, or most of the stuff for that matter. I'll have to check out the next bit on the cold war and Vietnam.

And while I'm here...............................1009!!!

Hey, did any of you guys catch that show "The Color of War - The ANZACS” on the idiot box the other night? Part one featured WWII and had some amazing images that I had never seen before; there were Beaufighters, Spitfires, and B-24 Liberators. Great reference material!

Oh yeah, 1007 Big Smile [:D]

I've just raised a new thread in the group build folder for the 2005 group build. I haven't put a completion date as of yet as this is still open to discussion.

Although I have put a proposed start date of 26 Jan 2005 I fully believe this will be the start date from replies already received.

Please consider these dates and let me know what you think, I am also open to any comments on the rules as I fully believe that this is our group build and all who take part have ownership of it. Use the Group build thread to discuss this matter and by all means continue the discussions from the last group build in either the old folder or the new one. I would personally prefer the new folder, but this is up to you.

Tweety, Yes, the RAAF did operate Vampires in both the single seat and double seat (trainer) types, I also believe that the Navy also operated them, but Im not a 100% sure of this. As Chris in Japan has said there was one outside Amberley many years ago, in fact quite a few of them ended up on sticks for display around Australia.

The RAAF certainly did use Vampires.. I grew up next to Amberley Airforce Base, and if anyone can remember the old Gate. Then they would remember the old sign in office.. It used to have an old Vampire up on a stand in the front!.. Many years later, and the new gate, they have a Canberra bomber.!.....

Tweety yeah mate the RAAF used the Vampire........
and as far as Johnnie goes i reckon we should fly him around in a C-47, or he can hop on the back of my postie bikeThumbs Up [tup]
just joking, in reality i think the Prime Minister whomever that may be should be flown around in a 747 that symbolises our nation, as far as a scheme goes i'm not really qualified to comment, airliners arn't really my thing, i like props and machine guns with the occassional jet thrown in like the CAC Sabre and the ME 262My 2 cents [2c]

Chris, sorry for the political slant.
But as far as 747's, I dont think they will ever do one that actually symbolises Australia.
Yeah the Qantas Dreamtime looks ok to most, I personally think it's a bit tacky.

I'm kinda Ol' Skool, and have always, and will always, prefer the TAA and Ansett designs.
I'd like to see that on a 747 again any day!

Agree with you there Mike, I have the Op Falconer set in 1/48. I think it cost about $40 but it was worth it. I've got a Hasegawa 1/48 F/A-18A in the stash along with a true details cockpit just waiting for the urge to get going. I'm already doing a CA Meteor for the Aussie GB, but if I finish in time I might give a 3 Sdn Hornet a bash (to go with my 3 Sqn Mustang).

I never wanted to bring politics into it.. I am a big fan of Airliners and the like, and so as I live in Japan, we sometimes see the Japanese government 747-400, and as I stated before, I have also seen Airforce One.. Regardless of who's Prime Minister, President.. I feel that our leaders should fly to other countries in a plane that symbolises our nation... And not in a little business jet or a noisy 707.. But something that shows the world that we are proud and are happy to show it!.. Look how recognisable the Qantas Dreamtime 747's are!.. I was just curious as to what you guys would like to see if this was to be a reality, and we all had some sort of say in it?
