Love the badge!!

This will be another excuse to build another Ansett airliner. I am thinking The Airbus A320 with the Olympic torch markings. Sort of compliments my Ansett 737-300 build.

Oh, yes and the Chinook as well!

cheers

Mike

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Paulss & David, always good to have some more Aussies join us in the forum.

Jules, if I didn't mention it before in the BoB group build forum, count me in for your North Africa and Heavy Fighter group builds, I have a couple of Beaufighters waiting in my stash.

Tominator, did you end up getting your compressor from Bunnings?

Cheers

Cheers buddy. I'm actually thinking of doing the bird the transfers you gave me are for as it appears to be the one I really wanted to do all along and have a couple of really good photo's of. It's a heavily weathered bird, so it should look pretty good. The problem is badly weathered colour schemes in black and white photo's don't come out too well!!!!! Thus the need for the colour guide.

In the queue: 1/48 Beech Staggerwing (RAAF), P38 (RAAF), Vultee Vengeance (RAAF), Spitfire Vb (Malta), Spitfire VIII x2 (RAAF), P39 x2 (RAAF), Martin Baltimore (Malta?), Martin Maryland (Malta), Typhoon NF1b, Hellcat x2 (FAA)

Hi
I'm David from SW Sydney, and have been back modelling for a year or 2 now, not managed to come up to FSM standards but getting there slowly (thinking of air brush as painting is the bit I am least good at and leave until I have a pile to do!)

Main interest is flying boats then civilian aircraft (prop and pre WWII in the main) currently building the Heller Citroen DS19 1/16 kit (I stray when things trake me fancy, though cars I find a real challenge, this one in particular!) whilst I finish painting a Martin Marlin and work out which kit from the pile to do next!

Anyone know where can I buy FSM off the shelf in downtown Sydney?

Didn't know Canberra had a Lancaster, saw the one at Hendon and its awesome!

Cheers D

Mike, yes we do have Bunnings over this side. Don't forget, if you don't already have one, to get a moisture trap as the regulators on these compressors aren't a moisture trap type.
Before I brought the Arlec compressor, I had a compressor that was so called designed for airbrush use, probably the same as your Paache. All I have to say is that I am glad that I brought the Arlec, its more versatile than the other, works better and cost me a lot less.

Yeas, I was going to use my hoses and water trap from my Paache compressor.

Seems a bargain and I know of two modlellers using the GMC compressor and they love it!

cheers

Bandha Boy

If I need to clean PE before use, I just give it a light rub over with a fine grade wet and dry paper before removing it from the etch. No worries about nasty chemicals then. Hope that helps.

Tweety - another P/E question for you. Do you clean the metal before use & if so, what with. I've seen some of theother forums recommending various alcohols which , I think, aren't available here under those names. Bit nervous about dropping it into the wrong stuff.

good to see so many modellers here!!!
hey i got a question someone here might be able to help me with. has anyone here used the NUTECH(?not 100% sure, but its nu-something) 1.5 hp air compressor from BigW. it costs $88 dollars atm, has a 6lt tank(blue), and the motor is covered in plastic.
just wanna know if any of u other ozzies have used this compressor and whatdya think about it? theres a bigger one for only 10bucks more, but i just want a small one that i can use mainly for ab'ing, maybe one day do some small spraying of furniture with something like those automotive spray guns. and also can anyone here tell me how loud it is? a comparisson to something maybe?? they wouldnt let me turn it on in bigw
:(
thanks in advance!!1

tominator, First of all Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the Aussie Modeller thread.

Second, I have also seen the type of compressor you are talking about at BigW, although I haven't used that brand of compressor I have a similar type under the brand name of "Arlec" there is also now a range of this type of compressor under various different brand names available. Most of them have regulators fitted that will allow work at pressures that suit airbrushes, it is also advisable to fit a separate moisture trap as these compressors aren't fitted with one. The connections on them are quick connect female air line types, you can usually obtain the fittings that you will required to set up in the same area as the compressor or from hardware stores. The compressors when operating can be noisy, mine is about the same as my wife's vacuum cleaner. The noise is only generated when the compressor is pumping up the pressure in the tank, once it reaches max pressure it turns off, then restarts when it reaches its low pressure setting. I can usually get up to 10 - 15 minutes airbrush time from a full tank. My tank is a 24ltre one, the larger the tank the more air it stores so if you are prepared to pay the extra $10 may be worth it.

Hope this helps.

tominator, It is probably about as loud as a noisy vaccum cleaner? The one i use is rated upto about 150/180psi. I don't think you will need it that high.Wink [;)] Hop this helps.Big Smile [:D]

No worries Tom.

Like I said just make sure that the compressor is adjustable down to 10psi for doing delicate work. It also should be able to operate happily at about 15-18psi as this the pressure most people seem to favour when spraying your models. If it works at 30+psi you will end up blowing your model right of the table (voice of personal experience talking Tongue [:P]).

thnks ppls....
darren, i think it can do all that, im just not sure what psi it can put out, but i think it would be over 30
trev, i think it did have some weird connection on it, it kinda looked like something similar to the water hoses on washing machines... and how loud is it? like a vacuum cleaner? could u give me a comparison to something if u could plz

thanks again....

south Aussie thanks for the reply.Wink [;)] tominator, I think that could be the same if not similar to the compressor that i am using. I haven't had any real problems with it. I did buy another regulator for it with water trap. Also the one i have had some crappy connection on it. So i just took it off and bgot some of the propper ones with the push button. To connect my regulator to the compressor i had to buy about 4 different connectors so i could connect my airbrush. Hope this helps.

I don't know off the unit you a talking about so I can't comment directly, but before you spend your hard earned on any compressor, make sure it has or can do the following:
- Air pressure is adjustable between 10-30psi
- Compressor has a pressure gauge
- You can attach a moisture trap
- You can attach you airbrush
As a by the by I use the little Sparmax AC-100 and have never had a problem with it.

Trev,

The RAAF trialed the F-16 alongside the F-18 and I think the Mirage 2000 as a replacement for the then serving Mirages.
I don't know if any of the trial aircraft were ever put into RAAF markings or not.

Also, the Tamiya 1/48 F-16 is a kit from about 100 years ago and is based on the F-16 prototype airframe. You would be better off looking at Hasegawa or some other manufacturer.

As a side note, my wife would have my bCensored [censored]s on a plate if I ever spent $226 on a kit. A least I could sort of justify my new airbrush, sort of.

Cheers
Darren

Trev,

As darren has said the RAAF had the F-16 along with Mirage 2000 and F-18 on the list to replace the Mirage, although there were a few promotion posters showing these aircraft with RAAF markings no F-16s were given RAAF markings.
