Carl, I can do better than that. It is a P-40N-5 US serial number 42105915 accepted 23 AUG 1942 at the Curtiss-Wright factory in Buffalo NY.

One of my former Air Force cadets works at the place so he gave me some info on it. I also have a huge number of photos of some P-39's that they are rebuilding at the same facility. I need to get back there to take some more up to date ones.

For those who are into wingy things, this months "ModelArt Australia" has an article on RAAF Foliage green and Colour Schemes for WW2 aircraft.

Wayne I enjoy getting older, especially when I consider the alternative.

Thanks Dave. I'm trying to figure out what the difference was between the export models vs the US ones, eg I think the RAAF E's were E-3's, which was an export only sub-variant - I've no idea how this applies to N's. Maybe we just had Brit seat-belts & Imperial Gallons??

BTW: you do good walk-around Dave.

There is also a P-40 currently under restoration at the "Old Aeroplane Company" at Tyabb airfield down here on the Mornington Peninsula. I should try and get down there to get some pics, but it won't be this weekend.

Just to stir up some more discussion in this thread. What is everyone working on at present, planning to start soon or just quietly hiding away for the future Question [?]

At present I am working on:
Tamiya's 1/16 Feldmarschall Rommel fiqure
Verlinden's 120mm Egyptian Farao
Dragon's 1/35 Pz.Kpfw I Ausf. B Dak Version
Dragon's Tiger 1 Inital Production (this is their latest 3 in 1 kit)
( the last 3 I am trying to complete for the SA Scale Model Expo in October)

One the awaiting list:
Dragon's Leopold Rail Gun
Trumpeter's Mórser Karl-Gerät 040/041 and rail transort carrier.
(these 2 will be waiting until I remodel my workbench so that I can have the space to build them)

At the moment I am working on:

1/48 Hasegawa P-40N in 78sqn RAAF colours;
1/48 Revell Fw-190D-11.

Next on the bench will probably be a pair of Yamaha YZR-M1's or maybe a RAN S-2G Tracker or Mauve P-40N. Haven't made up my mind yet.

Looks likes there is a lot of aircraft being build or planning to be built out there, nice to see ships get a mention too. Not to many AFV or Fiqures - might have to start working on converting a few to the darkside, or could it be no one is in to target building.

For those who are interested; the Aviation Museum based at Port Adeliade has closed so that it can relocate to another area within Port Adeliade. Should be re openning soon.

Wayne, I'm trying to finish off some of my builds at the moment so that I can do an AFV build just to break things up a bit and have some fun. I am tossing up at the moment between a Sherman or a StuG III.

Crikey, where do I start!

I have a stash size now close to 500 spread over 3 cupboards and 1:72's in 20 Reflex A3 paper boxes. The stash consists of 1:144 - 1:24 scale A/C, armour (all scales), figures/diorama stuff, ships and SciFi.

I also have around 150 white metal Battletech miniatures.

I thought I was bad. I have just counted mine and there are about sixty odd kits in there and it ranges from 1/35 Armor and figures, 1/48 Aircraft (lots), a couple of 1/72 Aircraft, some Games Workshop LOTR figures and one 1/35 Tyrannosaurus rex (I'm making it for my daughter Big Smile [:D]

I'm up to over 100 kits now, the majority of which are 1/48 acft. I have around 60 -70 Australian related 1/48 acft kits ranging from an Ozmods Caribou to a Roden Gladiator.

My lovely wife, Lori's stash is growing as well. Probably over 250 Reaper and LOTR figures alone, plus a dozen vinyl, resin and plastic large scale figures as well as several aircraft and SF models. We are runnng out of storage room!

Has anyone ever worked out how much their stash costs? I did it the other month and using Snowy Mountains/manufacturer prices I have over $5000 worth of stuff. I'm going to have to make sure that it's all insured now.

Or what about how much room it takes up. Mine is one contining changing wall of the shed. The changes then go under the house.

My Potential Project Stowage (a fancy term I like to use for stash!) is over the 200 mark last count.I conservatively valued it at about $7500 for the removalists that moved me from Canberra to Melbourne in May.I'm starting to worry about room,especially for my 1/12 '57 Chev.Better stop typing and start building....

I did a real rough calculation and figured about 3000 to 3500 bucks worth of models. I didn't add in the hundreds of dollars of paint or the airbrush or the compressor, etc, etc... Sometimes it's just better just not knowing.
