Ive just gone back to the drafting of the group build rules by sth aussie and im not sure if my choice qualifies, firstly i was doing Caldwells spitfire but ive changed my mind now i want to do Littles camel but he flew with 203 RAF so the model would be in british markings.
My second choice is Cobbys Camel now he did fly in the Aussie flying corps but all AFC aircraftwore British roundels.

SO WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK LITTLE OR COBBY

j.s. I can't see a problem with either choice as they are both basically Aussie subjects, as for the roundels, if I remember correctly we where still using the British type in the early sixties, in fact when I joined the RAAF in 1969 our ensign carried the British roundel, it was some time in the 70s when we adopted the Kangaroo type (better known as the skippy badge).

Tweety1, the intention is to put it in this folder (General Modelling discussion) due to the wide range of subjects, this will be of course subject to the approval of the FSM Forum Admin staff. The thread will be titled Aussie Group Build.

I'm not very knowledgeable on the AFC, but I feel that if it was an Australian plane flying under the British banner, then in my mind, it should be ok.

Lets face it, given our short history of a unified fighting force, it really is difficult to find wholy Australian craft, especially if you wish to do something older, and classy.

You can see only so many F-18's anf F-111's till you get bored.Disapprove [V]

South Aussie is taking care of that minor detail - I dont know where I would put it - but some others in these forums have requested FSM to have a 'Grp Build Only' Forum.

I tried to qoute youre message iLuv3eggs but i stuffed it up AGAIN only had this computer for a little time and joined fsm forums as soon as i had some one else set it up for me,ill figure it out oneday .
I like your spirit mate i want my Sopwith camel to be the best ive done yet so thats why i like the November finish date it gives me plenty of time to stuff around, the Acadamy 1/32 Camel was not what i expected from an acadamy kit, only 2 sprues and most parts have ejector pin marks all over them.Ive just finished the engine iit took 5 hours to build the 4 parts of the engine.
Vickers machine guns, cockpit and wing struts need some serious mods to bring them up to standard.THE FUN HAS BEGUN.

[PS] ILuv3eggs try springwood mr toys toyworld for those tracks ask for Brenton he might be able to help and im pretty sure he stocks aftermarket tank tracks.

Not a problem. Biante manufactures a 1/43rd diecast of the original red, white and blue cars and also the red Winfield car albeit without the "Winfields" script. Go to www.gatewaymodels.com.au they also have thumbnails so you can see whats what.

Several years ago Roodecals also manuafctured 1/24th decal sets for all the works cars which fitted well over the Tamiya Skyline, although there are some changes required to the Tamiya kits to accurately replicate these Aussie cars. These decals sets are now extremely difficult to find.

Ok, I know it's not Australian, but I'd love a model of the Nissan Skyline that OWNED Ford and Holden at Bathurst.
Any scale, any material.
Sorry, but I love it when Holdens and Fords are proven to NOT be all that and a bag of chippies.

I assume u mean a Collins in scale other than 1/35?? (LOL). There's a resin 1/350 by an Aussie Builder called Fleetline Models. Rumour has it that the builder did these a few years back (including an Oberon) and stopped production, then has recently started up again due to public demand for the two subs he builds. Here's a pic from one of my LHS website:

http://www.hobbycentre.com.au/FLEMOD02.html

but if you're not a fan of resin, it doesnt matter cos as far as I know, this is the only game in town.

Moffat's Falcon GTHO Phase 3 and the 1980 Commodore that Brock and Richards used to win the 1980 Bathurst both in 43rd scale and in resin or white metal.

J.S. here again i was just wondering what Aussie modeling subjects you would love to do but cant get for me its,
SUBMARINE AE11 the aussie sub that forced a passage through the Dardanelles in WW1 in 1/125 scale not in the 1/700 scale thats available.

HEAVY CRUISER HMAS CANBERRA sunk in iron bottom sound during the Guadalcanal campaign lets say in 1/350 scale yeah 1/350 would be tops.

HAPPY MODELING J.S.

I used brake fluid and Shell engine degreaser last time. Bit rough on the plastic, but a light sand will sort it out.

Now I'm not a figures man, but is it possible to give the coat an overspray or dusting to bring it to what you want?
Like I said, never made a figure model, so I'm really curious.

Tweety1 I use to use brake fluid when I was in model railways, but a club member recommended the use of oven cleaner as it was less likely to damage the plastic. Since using it I have had no damage to any plastic or resin model, can't say if it would damage metal models. Have used it to remove acrylic and enamels, don't know how it would go with laquers as I do not use them.
To use it you just spray it on the model, wait a few minutes then brush it with a tooth brush and the paint comes off, occassionally it might take two or three applications to get all the paint off. Then just wash the model. A word of warning wear a mask, eye protection and gloves.

It is possible to overspray and dust fiqures for effect.

Hey, any tips on creating longish grass !? i'll need some for the sides of the road if i am going to put the leopard in a diorama (already started planning ! )

I should have a metal barrel on the way soon, just got to find some workable tracks ... they aren't on bentbutnotbroken.com anymore Dead [xx(]

Next time your in your local hs, check out if they have any model railway stuff there. They should have some 'grass' that will do the trick.
It comes in long lengths and is pretty thin, kinda hair like, It's called 'Field Grass', made by an American company called Woodland Scenics, and you simply cut it to the length you need and stick it on.
Also comes in different colours, and 12 new and exciting flavours!(j/k)
Got mine from Frontline Hobbies in Newcastle, $11.95.
Hope this helps.

Sign - Ditto [#ditto] I've got to agree with your comments Tweety, in fact the Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner (I use this to strip paint) is never far away. Im about to strip the paint from the fiqure I've just finished and redo it, just don't like the colour the uniform turned out to be. A bit worrying though, this is the fiqure I intend to enter the ACT Comp in June.

My 2 cents [2c]I my opinion, the only challenge worth while is the one you set for yourself, even if it is above your current skill level. My 2 cents [2c]

Yeah Andy, it's the right stuff. Approve [^]

After you pour some into a container and dip a few canopies etc into it, it will turn a touch more cloudyConfused [%-)]
But don't worry, it's all ok, just the way it goes really.

I've got around 14 canopies from a small baby food jar (thanks son!!!) and have never refilled/replaced it, and it's milky as buggery but the canopies are crystal clearWink [;)]

But if your going to clear coat a model, I'd strongly recommend using from the bottle, not the jar (duh!)

South, phroosh, 3ggs, some days your skills, or lack there of, surprise you.

Finished a Zero couple of months back. I thought it looked tacky, not what I thought it should look like, so I asked the missus to have a squize before I stripped it back.

She reckoned it was too shiny, so I gave it a squirt of flattened Pledge.
Surprised me when it turned out looking better than I had perceived.Big Smile [:D]

Told the missus I did a whole lot of complex boy stuff to it, cause you NEVER admit they are rightWink [;)]
She smiled and walked away.

Hey guys - after reading MS's article in the March FSM about Future floor polish, I dutifully carted myself off to Safeway and got some Pledge One-go. Just one thing - In all the pics I've seen of 'Future' in jars on peoples work-benches it looks dead-set clear, but this stuff is just a bit 'milky'. Am I barking up the right tree?

Cheers! Andy

Good point.

I gave up modelling as a first year apprentice, 6-7 years later, I can afford more kits, which makes me less likely to try and "improve" my past efforts. I wish I could just leave well enough alone, and just learn for next time. I am definitely getting better! It is very important to push yourself to better your skills.
