Snowy, Nicholma,

Thanks for interest, so far we have 8 for the group build.

Tweety 1 I still looking for a model and as much as I hate to say it it could be an aircraft I end with.

Matt, maybee I could help in regards research for the RAAF as I have just just retired from the RAAF after 33 years service.

I've ordered a mounted Lighthorseman figure for my project. I may also do a WW2 RAAF project when my Mum gets some more info on her Dad's service.

Matt, Dai, ILuv3ggs, Tweety1, Luke thanks for your replies,

Tweety1 - Yes Models can be placed on a dioama.

Luke - I thought you might appreciate the extended completion date, besides I need the time to work out what I am going to do.

sign me up! rules are fine!

thanks for the longer (than expected) completion date - cos I'm in a sling after a shoulder op and it has to remain like so for 6wks - one down, five to go. Not even my physiotherapy skills can help me now cos i am on my holidays and i cant do any models - all i can do is research my next project. Gee . . . this short post has taken me about 8 minutes to type with my left hand - thats an improvement on yetersday - lol.

tweety1, I got the Super Lube locally in Canberra, from the same place that sold me my Iwata airbrush (I think Medea and Iwata are linked somehow). It was about $12 for a tiny bottle but it will last for a couple of years and does make a difference to the way your brush works. If you can't get some up there in the Boonies let me know if you want and I can get an exact price for you with postage and I could send it to you, I'm sure we could work something out.

Cheers...Snowy

This group build is to be all about enjoying modelling, sharing with other modellers and showing the rest of the world that modelling is alive and well in Australia.

Draft Rules.

1. The group build is open to Aussies, Kiwis and adopted Aussies regardless of where they reside. Modellers may join the group build at any time providing that they believe they can complete their model by the completion date.

2. The model can be of any scale and is to be from one of the following classes;

a. Any military vehicle, aircraft or ship that has been or is currently in service with the Australian Forces. Must have Australian Markings.

b. Any civilian vehicle, aircraft or ship that has been or is currently in use within Australia. Must have Australian corporate or private markings. In the case of touring cars on the australian circuit, team markings will be accepted.

c. Any Fiqure providing it is of an Australian Subject.

3. The completion date for the group build is 31October 2004. Start date will be from the date the group build sticky is posted.

4. Modellers may post photos of their model at any time, this includes progress photos. Photos of models completed after the completion may still be posted.
after all the purpose of the group build is to show the rest of the world that we can build models downunder.

Nice simple draft there South Aussie, and I'm definately in, just gotta find a subject.

Maybe a Collins class sub, wouldn't take much, just throw a sieve into a bucket, and your done!!!Big Smile [:D]

Just 1 question. Am I safe to assume that the models can be placed on a diorama?

I usually run about 15psi pressure for general spraying. When it does happen I use a soft paint brush and Windex to just clean around the tip, give it a blast of air and keep spraying. The other thing I have found really helpful is using a smear of Medea Super Lube on the needle. Hope I'm not telling you how to suck eggs! I know what your going through, everyone gives you thier magic solutions but they just don't work for you, I found that out while trying to spray Future (Pledge One Go) without pebbling. Maybe there is a very slight film of dried paint left on the needle, just enough to give the paint you are spraying something to grab onto and start building up. You could try soaking the needle in Windex overnight and then giving it a wipe and lube. I have done this and was surprised at what came off the needle on a clean paper towel, considering I thought it was clean before. Thats about the limit of my knowledge at the moment, hope it helps a little. Good luck.

Cheers...Snowy.

Thanks for the advice Snowy, will soak the needle like you said.

At this point I'd try spraying during a full moon, with lace socks on, and Sound of Music playing on the stereo if it will stop the tip dry.

You mentioned the Medea Super Lube, so I'm assuming you got that from OS?

maybe we could get a chat room going once this has started ? we could always use a chat client like mIRC if we can't get some sort of other thing up and running ...

Grrreat Mate Woof!
The rules look ok to me.
Tweet. When I lived in Alice I had the same trouble. Cured mostof it by turning on the Government Issue airconditioner to put a bit of moisture in the atmosphere.

Wayne,

I like your rules and am definitely in. Glad you are throwing it open to our adopted friends. The generous finish date means I should be able to do something in memory of both my Grandfathers, not just one.

Thanks for putting your hand up to organise things.

Matt, I found it at Woolworthes in the section with all the floor cleaners and stuff like Jiff, Handy Andy, etc. It is good stuff although I can't get it to lay on with a high gloss like others say you can get, but decals go on without silvering and once I put on a final Matt coat it's all good. It dries quick and is as tough as nails. I think I've seen some at Coles as well. Go to Swannies website to get the lowdown on using it.

Cheers...Snowy.

What sort of shops keep Pledge One Go (future) here in Oz? I'd sure like to try it.

I had an Aztec 470, Alclad put that one to sleep forever, but never had a problem with it.
This Omni is a great brush to use, but the tip dry is slowly making my hair greyer by the minute.
There has to be an answer, and I'm sure one of the American chaps here will know it, just a matter of time.Sigh [sigh]

Wayne,

I use the same two shops! I just wish they were closer.....
I don't think too much of the service in the city either. They carry some stuff the others don't though.

By the way I am a bit of a neurotic when it comes to spelling, so I just can't drop 'u's under any circumstances!Big Smile [:D]

Tweety1;
As much as I hate to say it (after all the negative comments flying around), I use an Aztek airbrush and once I adapted to it I don't seem to have the same problems as the rest. Once had a similar problem and used the same technique as ILuv3ggs to clear it.

p.s. I quite often drop the "U" in colour and armour in this Forum just to keep our American friends happy.

Matt; I live on the north side and have close access to two shops, 1 in Salisbury and Hobby Habbit on Main North road Blair Athol although I tend to go to Military Hobbies in Port Rd more often. Occassionally visit Adeliade Hobby centre in Rundle Mall.

Funny you should mention the FSM with the microbrushes, the day I picked that copy up I was in town and went to Adeliade Hobbies and asked if they could get mircobrushes, even showed them the free brushes that came with the mag, their reply was you find a supplier and we may order them, Banged Head [banghead]Banged Head [banghead]real good customer service. I have a Passche Single Action Airbrush, if it starts to build up i just open the needle a bit more and give it a quick spray on some waste paper or something, that usually gets rid of it for me ...

... maybe its not thinned enough ? i think thats my reason for it drying up on the needle

Ahhhhhhhh Aussies!!!

For some stupid reason I keep forgetting about this part of the forum.

It's nice to see people who can spell the word 'colour' correctly.Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Anyways, I was wondering how many of you guys have airbrushes, and if so, what the hell do you use to minimise tip dry!!!

I just received my Omni 4000, and it is driving me nuts spraying a 30 mm line, then having to stop and clean the tip, then start, then stop, etc etc etc.

Others have gone on about Createx and Liquitex Retarders etc, but that stuff doesn't exist here, so short of using Olive Oil on the needle/nozzle to repel the paint, I'm stumped.

Someone PLEASE help.

Oh yeah, this group build that South Aussie is talking about, you can definately count me in, and I imagine the time frame will be enough so we can all order a bucket of detail bits etc from OS??Mischief [:-,]

j.s. I searched hi and lo for microburshes over the last years and then when I was about to give up all hope I found some at a local hobby shop here in Adelaide. The contact details for the shop is Model World, 6 Twin Street, Adeliade SA 5000. Their phone Number is 08 8223 1642 - Fax 08 8223 1645, I believe they will mail order. The cost of the brushes were $5.50 for a packet of 25. Feel free to contact me if you require more info.
