Hey Fellas,
I'd like to build a P51 from No.3 Squadron, Italy 1945. Just started to gather info. Apparently Tamiya's Korean War Mustang is the most ideal kit to represent one of our P51's from this period (uncuffed prop etc.). I just got an RAAF Mustang reference book from Red Roo Models and have started to look for suitable decals (which they also have). I just have to finish my P47 first (probably 3 more weeks left).

Cheers....Snowy.

I have a Hobby Craft P40 Kittyhawk that I plan on painting and marking as RAAF fighter. I will post the finished model.
Cheers

I would like the oportunity to build a Lancaster (G-George?) because I like them and so dose my wife!! Vampire would be great too. As would be AE2. If the call is for a tank then I would pump for a Mattilda.
I think that the model should be historicaly accurate and maby a bit of a chalange. Try converting one of the airfix Dragoons ,or similar, to a Light Horseman!

G'day from Bathurst, NSW. I am actually from the US but can now call Australia home. I have been living here since 1998 and really love it. I loved California as well, but my wife wasn't there, so I am here now. I lived in Sydney for 3 years and was a member of IPMS and APMA until we moved out West to Bathurst. Bathurst has a great life style, but there isn't much going on with modelling. I would love to open up a hobby shop if I had the funding. 40,000 people living here and another 40,000 in Orange, and there isn't a decent hobby shop around. The closest would be more then 2 hours away. If you guys have a chance visit my web site.

http://modelhangar.virtualave.net/index.htm

you can see what I have been building over the past few years.
Regards,
Anthony

Hi,

I'm Matt, and I represent Adelaide too.
I model 1/35th WW2 armour mostly with a few others thrown in.
I have just come back to the hobby after 6 years in the wilderness.

As an aside, do any of you Aussies know where to get the resin and silicone etc for home resin casting. I need to do some but have no idea where to find the stuff!

Re the Group build;

Thanks for your replies, ILuv33ggs, & Luke,

Looks like the best way to go for this is by nominated subject providing that it is and Aussie subject.

Lets hear from all the Aussie modelers out there on this.

When we are ready to go Ill post a new subject directly related to an aussie group build. What I need now is some info on what rules we should have and what period of time should the build be over. etc.

Lets here from you.

G'day Tim;
Your reply means that there are at least 13 Aussies out there who are members of the FSM Forum,

Don't worry about the brain cells, I think a few of mine suffered during F18 and F111 Landings and take offs while a was in the RAAF.

Hi, Tim here from Port Macquarie in New South Wales. I've hit the big 40 but have never let go of the years I spent in 1st Armoured Regiment in my younger days. I loved German Armour then and I still love it now. I recently emailed Mike V (what a great bloke) for assistance in ordering an Omni airbrush from the US. I got the number to call from Mike but I always strike the answering machine. Has anyone ever ordered this way and can you tell me the best time to call. I can't get my head around the time difference. I must have killed a few brain cells with the 105mm in the Leopard going off. I use to build model tanks and give them to my nephews for display. Now I wish I had kept them all to myself. Just kidding.

Take Care,

Tim

Hi all, I haven't forgoted this thread, been of line due to a computer problem, a least it wasn't a virusCensored [censored]Censored [censored] computers!!!!!!

A belated Australia Day to all Ausssie on this site.

Dai, Know what is like living up in the mountains couldn't even see the sea from the top of the mircowave tower at RAAF Glenbrook, at least the sunsets can be beautiful, at least here in Adelaide we see the sun rise from the hills and set in the sea.

Now to get back to the proposed group build, with the wide ranging subject matter of the few that have joined this thread, maybee the group build, if we go ahead with it, should be a subject nominated by each modeller with the requirement that it is of an Aussie subject. Waiting to hear from you all.

Well, Australia Day is almost over, on the east coast anyhow, and my wife and i had a great day. Woke up in the Manly Pacific and saw the sun rise out of the ocean. Not a sight we usualy see. Now I'm sitting in mu office and watching the sun set over the mountains with a cold Crownie in my hand, that's why the typing is a bit slow, and about to watch the cricket and the tennis.
I would not be anywhere else!!
Advance Aystralia Fair!

I wouldn't bother with the Lee Kit (personally) . . and the 1/700 you speak of is from Dragon, which is actually quite good considering its one of their older ones!

Hey guys,

i like the idea of having an aussie group build, i am just about to start a Leopard AS1, but will put it off until we know what we will be building

for the armours fans, i have 2 websites you might want to look at ...

http://www.mheaust.com.au/ - then click on 'Go To Catalogue'

the site looks kind of primitive, but its honest, i have ordered the Leopard AS1 conversion set from there - most of these products are made by people in thier spare time, some resin parts may need to be touched up, but otherwise i found their products reasonably good

secondly,

http://anzacsteel.hobbyvista.com/armourframe.htm - this is a website providing pictures and information on tanks used mainly by australia, nz and britain (AWSOME site for the Leopard AS1)

both websites seem to go down from time to time, so if they don't work, try again later

also, be sure to check out the defence websites, they have many pictures of modern stuff and even some videos and wallpapers for the hardcore enthusiest - the navy website has scale models for many ships/corvettes/subs/mine hunters used by the navy over the years ...

Dai,
I think your idea that the proposed group build be based on a Aussie subject is a good one, it would probably have to beSad [:(] an aircraft (to many years in the RAAF)Sad [:(] due to availability of kits of Australian outline.

Glad to see that someone is catering for junior modellers, there should be more of it. Sad [:(]I will miss your fair by a weekendSad [:(], will be in Penrith the following weekend

Two things.
If we have a group build I would like to see an Australian subject be it Navy Army or Airforce.
Now a date for your diaries.
On the 22/23 May the Rotary Club of Central Blue Mountains are holding a Hobby and Craft Fair in the Comunity Centre at Lawson. All hobbiests are welcome. Also there will be a Junior Modelling Competion. Two sections:- 12yrs and under and 16yrs and under.
For more information contact me via the forum or at daimargs@optusnet.com
If the dates seem to be a little out should be a Fri/Sat I will correct them soonest.

Like you luke I know of at three others, just hoping that they just might come out of the woodwork, but thats up to them.

Like your idea of a Aussie group build, this is one of the reasons why I started this thread to see how many of us there were and whether it would be worth while trying to arrange something like a group build etc.

Would an Aussie tourist count?
I see some of you are from Brisbane. My sister and her husband will be spending three weeks at a condo in Noosa in February, and they'll be travelling to Brisbane from time to time, but don't really know much about the area.

My Email is in my profile if any one would care to recommend any attractions in the area. He is into model trains in a big way, and she likes crafts and that sort of thing.

Thanks in advance,
Bruce
