I am out of hospital today after having my gall bladder removed, so lots of light modelling sessions ahead while I am on leave for 6 weeks.

As for the Firefly, it's not to bad to work on. I just need glasses next time as working on such small things hurts my head

arrrrrrrgggghhhhhh, its the 3rd of July today and my newsagents issues were due in on the 9th of JUNE.

I should have visited Alice Springs. At the rate they charge for accomodations there at Ayers it would have saved a bundle. I was contemplating just driving off towards Alice and pulling off and camping. I am an old North American desert rat having lived in Arizona and Nevada for years, and I do that all the time, but an earlier trip to the Perth Zoo with the snake and spider exhibit convinced me other wise. Rattlers are one thing,  Browns and Taipans are another. And then funnel web spiders....  I really don't know what I am doing out there.

I have done the beer gut thing. And at this stage in life I am working the other direction and trying to lose it. Just about there, too.

Modeling? Oh, yeah. uh, gee, let's see. Working on a USAAF 71st squadron P-38 that my dad was actually a crew chief upon in North Africa. He also was one of the mechanics on one of the first P-38 piggybacks. He has passed away, but I transcribed his diary from those years and it is at the 1st FG website. Harvs: Why did you go for brown seats? As I have this kit in my "models on the go" pile, I'm interested in your interior details. I should go to Ardmore (just down the road) and see if they're rebuilding one in there (I've been told that they have an Mk1, but I haven't seen it)

Brews, I used the 'Warpaint' book on the Firefly as one of my references and it has a colour interior shot of the cockpit of Duxfords F.1., hence the red/brown seat. I also have the Grand Phoenix Mk 1 and the PP Aeroparts FR 4/5, both in 1/48, I used the resin and instructions to give me the basic lay out of the cockpits. My cockpits are rather bare compared to theirs but you can't see much through the Airfix canopy anyway.

The seat in the photo is red with a dark green pad on the rear but the pad has faded to what basicaly looks like a dark red/brown. Grand Phoenix say the seat should be Int Green with brown pad while PP Aeroparts say it should be Black with leather brown pad.

After last weeks hiding in Brisbane...all doubts about Wallabies removed, plenty on those Boks though...ABSOLUTELY none on my boys in Black !  Wager in order perhaps?

Pardon me for shamelessly promoting the local economy, but have you considered SET 19? I realise that the Firefly recommnded is the FROG  F1, but what's the difference (especially for the rear canopy)?

Harvs, do you know there's a Firefly at the Cambden Museum? It's on the floor so you can climb all over it, owner notwithstanding. (if you haven't been to the Cambden Museum, it's just a hanger jam-packed with planes & engines.) The pics I took of it are pretty crap but Cambden is halfway to Wagga.

Have already introduced myself in the other section of the forum, but just wanted to say g'day in the Aussie part too! My name is Chris and I'm in Melbourne. I'm prety much a total newbie, and I like constructing 1/48 WWII era fighters/bombers.

A quick question for you all - I've read heaps about Future, and the Australian alternative Pledge 'n' Go from posts that are fairly old so I seem to be getting a lot of different answers. So does anyone here in OZ use it, where can it be bought and is the Pledge stuff as good?

Hey Chris,

 although I don't use pledge n go, I use long life floor polish. This is just as good, and you can buy it in your department stores like Kmart, BigW etc.

Chris, I have used both Pledge 'One Go' and Reckitts Long Life and found that I prefer the 'one go' due to it not leaving as much of a yellow tint to white paint jobs. Both are readily available you just have to go to the right brand shop to get it. Future may be availabe in the future as a hobby company is looking at importing it.

I haven't visited for a while.

I'm currently working on a 1/72 Italeri Israeli Merkva MBT. The tracks and wheels stood some improvement. It's an interesting diversion from aircraft kits.

Anyone one else want to share their current project(s)?
