I hear ya Doogs. All that sickness sucks. Try to keep a stiff upper lip and all that. The family will recover, you'll get everything unpacked, and stuff will be all over the bench again before too long.

I hate moving and having a sick family straight after would only compound things.  Hope your daughter recovered quickly.

Sometimes when i'm in a modelling rut/can't get to the bench, i'll read through instructions/references of my next few projects, make some notes on them etc.  Makes me feel like i'm getting some modelling done without actually modelling.

Hope you find some stress relief soon.

Indeed, it is rather unpleasant at times when we have to deal with life on life's terms rather than our own. I is what it is and we simply accept that. I t will all pass quickly enough.

I can relate to your tale of woe. Hope the family is well soon and just take the time to think out your new layout. Plan everything out in your head so you don,t have to move things around too much when you start setting up. Again hope everyone is well soon and all will work out for the best.

Moving, weddings & death in the family are the top-3 stress inducers from a study that I saw years ago. (I'm guessing "job change" is a close 4th!) Little wonder the clan is sick. Get better folks!

To Matt in particular... no bench yet, so many boxes to go before you'll allow yourself to set up... go buy yourself and the kids a box of Lego. No bench needed!!

We moved a week and a half ago...since then the wife's been sick. Both kids have been sick. Our daughter got to spend the night in the hospital, and I've been fighting off a sinus infection. We've made the worst effort ever getting unpacked - and that includes the bench.

And I'm going crazy. Modeling is my stress relief, and I've got no bench. 

Just had to vent to a group who I know will understand the frustration...

Modeling has always been my stress relief and I hate those time when I can't sit down at the workbench. My solution for those droughts is to grab a couple of kits from the stash and look through the parts and instructions and start planning the build. I do a little research, make notes about what I want to do with the kit, etc. It keeps my creative juices flowing and makes me feel in touch with the hobby when I can't break sprue.

Hang in there Buddy. One thing, don't put a lot of stress on yourself re: the second rank necessities like modeling and unpacking. It'll get done. Concentrate on all getting better and don't worry, you'll get caught up. We're all not going anywhere soon.

Wow, thanks guys! Knew I could count on this group for some support!

Fortunately we all seem to be on the mend. The son had a quick 24-hour thing, daughter had croup, hence the hospitalization (it usually appears with things like pneumonia, so she was there more for observation than anything else), and my antibiotics are really starting to kick in. Everything still tastes funny, but at least I no longer feel like I'm being attacked by an alien facehugger!

I'm actually making the bench something of a priority...I figure I can unpack for an hour at night, then hit the bench for an hour, and at least get some unwinding time. I've been making some progress...

...but I'm still some ways away from being able to crack open a kit. 

One step at a time and keep plugging away at it and all thing,s will come in time !

The family will get better and so will the bench time. I know when I can't built models I buy models.  I think I enjoy the searching and planing of the next build as much as the project I'm curently  working on. I moved from NY to the Carolinas....BRUTAL....

Best wishes, Doogs-  I know moving is a real pain, we did a cross country move 5 years ago and it took me a couple years to get comfortable with the new situation.  Finally levelled out, and now I am happy we are here in a beautiful new place in Colorado.

Fortunately, we did not have family illnesses to deal with, that must have made it really tough for you.

Here's to everyone getting well , which at the end of the day, is priority #1.  Now as for the sinus problems, this is what works for me (having lived in "sinus valley" most of my life, I know).  Get a nice big (large enough your whole face will fit in it) bowl and fill it with warm water, add a couple of tps of table salt, put your face in and snort up some saline water, just don't swallow.   Just an old fashioned irrigation, yeah some prefer the "Neti Pot" but this is cheaper and works just as well.  Take care of that family and may all of you get healthy!

Doogs, take heart.  It looks like you've got a great upgrade on your workshop.  Make the setup be your current project.  Call it a 1-1 model work site diorama.  You've talked about the bugs getting into your work area through your old garage door.  There is a cool product that is made to close off an open garage door to the bug population.  They make a roll up screen that attaches to the garage door frame and you can pull down to stop bug traffic when the door is open.  It could come in handy when the weather warms up, which in San Antone' is about all the time.  Unless of course that sweet looking garage has a little climate control hooked into the central air unit.  Don't worry, get a good setup on the work area.  You won't regret that!  Rick.

Get well soon, Doogs!  Last year my family, as a whole, suffered the worst collective sickness we've ever experienced.  Without any exaggeration, each of us (my wife, my 7 and 3 year old daughters and myself) were each carrying our own barf bowls with us wherever we walked throughout the house.  It was the worst!

Back when that was going on, my biggest stress relief wasn't building models like it usually would be.  Instead, the biggest stress relief was making it from the living room to the bedroom without heaving.  If I could make it that far, that was a great relief!

Slowly but surely. Got the second run of shelves up last night. New benches come in next Tuesday (those Costco folding tables were killing my back...sooo low...new ones I can work standing or sitting if I want!). 

I'm still planning to be up and running around Thanksgiving. Been putting some thought into my first builds back, too. Trumpy's F4F-3 is definitely happening (Wakecat for the 70th anniversary), but I'm thinking maybe the Minicraft 1/144 PBY that arrived yesterday as a quick "back in the saddle" before diving into a big 1/32 build.
