Anyone here interested in steampunk?
Theres a few models id like to build steampunk style. Just wondering if anyone else here is keen on the genre.
If enough people are keen, maybe a future GB idea?

Ill post a few images.

Aircraft.
H.G.Wells type stuff.
Bish Never heard of it. Do you have any examples.
Examples can be almost anything that looks like a 19th century design- or as fantastic as someone can imagine:
There is actually a steam punk subculture.......

I find it fascinating, having played a bunch of RPGs set in a Steampunk sorta universe. I'm not as big a fan as these folks though.
I'd love to see anything you build Mike, though for a GB the only thing I'd really have is some gaming figures and that sort of stuff.

I was steampunking before steampunk was cool...check out the "Castles of Steel" GB in Ships...
I had never heard of it until I recently made a friend who was interested in it. Actually the movie "Cowboys and Aliens" is what brought it up. The idea intrigues me, but I'm not comfortable enough with my modeling skills yet to try something that outrageous.
I would follow along, though!
I've been aware of the fashion and subculture for quite a while, but not really my thing.
However, i've never really seen any vehicles/aircraft.
Those pics of the aircraft you posted really do interest me, especially the flying submarine.
If a company made those models, i'd probably buy them, but no way would i trust myself to buy a perfectly good submarine and kitbash together.
Chris
Ive had some serious thoughts about building that flying boat. It feels quite sinister. Maybe paint it battleship grey and black Big gold cogs on the wings and fuselage. Skull and wrench flag flying. Hmm. Might have to get a ship model and a DC-3 kit. Or something to that effect.
Airships are really irresistible!! really tempted to kitbash some kit
rtoo speed makes ugly results, too relax don't make results
Yeah, I am kind of interested. I am about to order a book from Lindsey Publications on Steampunk. I did read, many years ago by Gibson et Sterling- the Difference Engine, that I believe was about the start of the genre.
Maybe after receiving the Lindsey book I'll have more inspiration. I guess such models would fall in the same genre as the fantasy/science fiction stuff.
Some of the stuff I have already seen has been 1:1 scale rather than subscale modeling. Have not seen many vehicles and such. The cover art for reprints of some of the Verne and Wells novels might be good inspiration.
Some of the famous architects of the art deco and streamline era did some designs for cars and planes (never built, but interesting styling), and I have contemplated modeling some of the those. Not steampunk but similar.

Yes. I agree.
May need to scratchbuild the gas bag unless the Revell Hindenburg is big enough.
I really like the whole steampunk thing. Not sure about building anything. I'd have to look and see what's out there.

The closest I get is my fascination with pre-dreadnoughts
I love steam punk stuff, but I really don't have the skills to build any of it. As a side note there was an episode of the t.v. show "Oddites" that featured steam punk stuff.

Now is this considered Steampunk...or just plain Punk???
I really enjoy the "Flying Machine" concepts....dont know of any kits like this...besides the SpaceBattleship Yamato...
Interesting subject...
The "Road Warrior" movies w/ Mel Gibson could be considered STEAM PUNK as well...
i se on an italian forum a modeler that used the 144 minicraft spruce goose and a 1/700 carrier to kitbahing a fliyng carrier!!
I made a Steampunk inspired costume for my daughter's pony last Halloween, won for "most original"

featured steampunk devices and airship.

True, but
The Wild Wild West TV series created steampunk:

i really enjoy playng the 7th chapter with great history and lots of steams along the way
... then... we start?
Mad Max was post apocalyptic, not steampunk. At a stretch it could be considered cyberpunk.
Wild wild west, definitely steampunk. It was the first real serious example of steampunk in mainstream media.
The sub from league of extraordinary gentlemen is classic steampunk.
Most of what ive seen is in 1:1 as-well. Things like costumes or props. A common one is the Maverick Nerf Gun being transformed into a steampunk revolver.
As long as its got lots of brass and copper and wood. Or if its powered by steam or clockwork. Then its likely steampunk.
I think if some people are interested we could make a loose GB. New thread? or leave it here?
And a steam punked computer:http://steampunkworkshop.com/lcd.shtml
