I was born in 89 so chances are I missed this show, but remembering watching shows similar growing up. Saw some of the clips on YouTube and will admit it's definitely dated, but fun to watch none the less.

I spent a while talking to the gentleman tending the gallery. It's really a place where students gather to learn his techniques and display their work. There are lots of great paintings on display from different students.

I saw one of his son's paintings and like you said paints like his late dad. I was told his son has not painted for a while and apparently is not involved in the art like his dad was.

Awesome!   I watch/listen to his episodes on YouTube while I work on models. I aways enjoy the episodes with his son; he paints just like his dad. I would LOVE to see his gallery or even one of his paintings in person!   He uses his 3" brush in ways I would have never thought of.

Nothing beats Bob Rosses "The Joy of Painting" though.  That soft voice gets me every time LOL

Another BR fan! The man was one incredibly talented artist. We recently visited his Gallery in New Smyrna Beach and was amazed at the quality of the detail he put on canvas with a metal pallet and a 3" brush. The paintings look great on tv but are incredible when actually seen.

Each Modeler was given 8 to 10 models. They needed to build 4 to 6 in various stages of completion, plus the final presentation piece.

I hear ya TB. Nowadays kids don't play outside and have fun like we did when we were kids. Heck - I climbed trees (and fell out of them), rode my bike all over (we didn't need no stinkin' helmets), drank water out of garden hose, catch ploywogs and fireflies during summer, built tree houses, played baseball, football, hide and seek, tag, cops n robbers/cowboys n Indians. Back then we never had computers and video games either. Life was fun then.

Well;

Does anyone see where there's something wrong here ? When little, I used to float my little boats in the pond the Ducks lived in  .Ugh , what they left behind ! Didn't get any lethal diseases , but boy did I get a whipping for coming in the house covered in duck excrement . !

Never did shoot myself with My " Red Ryder b.b. Rifle either . Yeah , no Helmets , Jumped from the Hayloft into the hay pile . Played around and under the horses and cows . When I moved into the city the biggest thing I had to fear were all those darned cars ! Oh , and Bullies . Good old farm remedies stopped that !     Tanker - Builder .

P.S.  Never did see that T.V. Show .  Sounds lame ,but things were geared toward someone never having done it before . Like it was an esoteric science. You Know sometimes I think it is , and I am an engineer -retired .

Interesting toy commercials from that era! I was a bit young to remember them, but one commercial I do remember from decades ago from watching Saturday morning Warner Brothers' cartoons: Underoos! Anybody remember those commercials featuring the children (boys and girls, perhaps age 10 at the most) dancing around in the advertised product--colored underwear? Won't ever see that again in this day and age!

Well, I continue to learn new things every day.

I found a copy of the "Adventures in Scale Modeling" book in the Highland Park, Illinois Half Price Books ; written by the host of the tv show.

I never knew the book existed.

I didn't buy it...........too basic and I would rather watch the shows but finding it on the shelves was still very much a surprise.Surprise.

I grew up using rattle cans in my windowless bedroom in the sixties. I've made it to a pretty healthy 64 and going strong. As a kid, I didn't have access to laquer thinner but I've used acetone based nail polish remover to soften super glue on my fingers.

True, and you probably rode your bicycle without a helmet too!!  Surprise  Wouldn't soccer moms(and dads) be shocked today?!?!  Wink

Bet he was a good shot with a Daisy BB rifle...................Hmm

Don't forget about all the toys that shot out some kinds of a projectile (rocket, dart, balls, etc) with and without rubber tips. I've still to meet/hear of anyone injured by one of these!

Don't forget climbing on the monkey bars and similar playground equipment! Several feet off the ground! And without a helmet or other padding!Surprise

Hey !

Don,t tell anyone  . I would ride my wooden stake-side wagon down the steepest hill I could find . No seat restraints or helmet either . Besides when riding my bike in traffic I couldn't hear the cars sneaking up behind me ! Or feel the wind in my hair ( when I had some that is ) . This was necessary .I had to make that BIKE ride to get to the Hobby Shop for my latest REVELL ship kit fix .

I hear ya brother!  My little buddies and I would ride our bikes through the  "fog" sprayed for mosquitoes in our town.  "Wheee!  Let's ride in the DDT!"  There we were, standing on the pedals, huffing and puffing, as we tried to keep up with that sprayer truck.  Of course, not only were we riding through a poisonous fog but no one could even see us in that cloud of DDT.  Helmets?  Respirators?  Surely you jest, lol!!  Hey, no wonder our babies were born naked!  One time, the wind cleared the fog away and we were many blocks from our 'hood, and we didn't even recognize the area.  We had to haul butt back home to familiar ground.Big Smile

BlackSheepTwoOneFour

I finally got the chance to watch some clips of Adventures in Scale Modeling on youtube. I lost my patience listening and watching the host acting dumb. Drove me nuts. LMAO!!!

Yeah, they can be.

However back in those days that was pretty typical of how training/tutorials were done.

I had to watch (on video tape or film)  many electronics, software, repair, customer service  tutorials that followed this same method.

The clueless supervisor/customer/client actor asking the expert information laced questions that would explain to an audience what/why they were doing something.
