Your right Stick. there were several F-14A squadrons in the Gulf. Only 2 squadrons used the A plus.

This weathering might be a little tough to accomplish.

Yup! Not all inclusive, but a very good starting place. Typical wiki stuff. IIRC, the Saudis & Qataris used primarily French AFVs in the war, the Syrians Soviet stuff, and the Egyptians used older US stuff. The Kuwatis had the remnants of their original British equipment, and later they had Yugoslav made versions of Soviet stuff.

And yes, I do hope that we see more of the lesser seen stuff as part of the GB.

too bad my Tamiya Saladin is half done and will be quite muddy. i saw some french company(?) may be coming out with an AMX-10 6x6.

Heller makes much of the basic French AFVs in 1/35. The VAB 4x4 and 6x6 armored cars, the AMX-30 MBT, SPAAG, SPG, the AMX-10 series vehicles....

i've seen some of the HELLER stuff. pretty much the only things i don't have in my warwheels stash. the AMX-10 RC is almost as mean looking as the CENTAURO.

I have the VAB 4x4 in my stash. I would like to get the 6x6 as well.

I vaguely recall that the Saudis were using some versions of the V-100 cars during the Khafji battle.

Would this vehicle qualify for the GB? It doesn't have any particular markings for any area of operation but this was what the LHS had, at least in my price range.

Thanks...

Stik, I'm sure you've probably already mentioned this, but I don't recall - are enemy subjects allowed as well, like Iraqi aircraft, armor, ships, etc.?

At first I assumed that was a British vehicle. And the burning in the background mad me think of the burning Kuwaiti oil wells. I goggled RSOV and apparently that's a US Marine vehicle using the land Rover Defender but was introduced in 1992 to replace the M151 MUTT.

Oh you're in BIG trouble, Bish!

Rangers are Army, not Marines! Of course it seems to be the Marines who care most about that kind of stuff.

But don't count on the last bit. I would hate to be called a bootneck. Those guys are just odd. Big Smile

Castel, the RSOV would not qualify. That was post 1991.

DD, yes Iraqi stuff is also encouraged. We cant have one side without the other.

Bish, GM beat me to it. Rangers are indeed an Army unit. Historically they trace their lineage back to Rogers Rangers of the French Indian wars of Colonial America in the 1750s (I think that war has a different name in the UK) Rogers standing orders are still taught today to every Ranger and most are still quite applicable- some with a bit of updating/adjustment. And yes those naval Infantry types take on some odd quirks (starting with language) once they have been trained ;)

I see. So really, the rangers are a British invention Wink

I believe that period is what we refer to as the Seven Years War.

Odd quick's indeed. I mean, how can you have a galley in the middle of the damn desert.

Yes they are. Rangers originated in England in the Middle Ages IIRC. Although Rogers Rangers was a Colonial innovation. Local woodsman formed into militia to range into the wild ahead of the main armies. Scouting, raiding etc. using tactics and techniques learned from fighting with the local Native American tribes. Of course the modern incarnation of the Rangers started in Scotland in WWII based off the British Commando model and organized by Col. Darby as the 1st Ranger Battalion. Again, heavily influenced by you guys.

And yes, I have yet to come across a deck deep in the forest...Whistling

GM, I take it that the FMC plant that built the AAVs is near you?

I don't know if it's there. The old M113's were built in Santa Clara, now it's the earthquake's Stadium site.

Steve, I had to look that up, I had not heard that term before. Over here we called him Comical Ali.

I believe he may be off some where denying that this GB really is going to take place.

I have so many kits to choose from in my stash. But I am leaning towards a 1/35 BMP-1 to do in Iraqi colors. I found a few photos of some that have some field rigged jerry can racks in the rear so I can add a little something to the basic kit. Like Bish is a fan of German stuff, I like the opposition side from the Cold War era. The Soviets made some mean looking hardware.

Given that we have a few weeks before things actually get rolling, I might switch subject....need a few Iraqi things to get built, too! Maybe a Tamiya T-55 'Enigma' or one of the many lousy Hobbycraft Soviet/Iraqi boxings available in the Persian Gulf Fighters series. Guess I have some thinking to do still.

MJ, this does not kick off for another month, and then it will run for 8 months. You have plenty of time! (famous last words on here!) Man I wish that I could get one of those Tamiya Enigmas for a good price!

I just built the Tamiya Tiran 5. Those Tammie T 55s are really swell kits.

Enigma is $ 40 on Amazon.

I think I may do something British maybe a Puma or a Nimrod? I have a ton of f-15's but I am pretty sure someone else will build one.

Yeah, the 1/48 Strike Eagle can be found pretty affordably at Hobby Lobby. Telic air & ground forces have some great options. I always like the Tornado GR.1 with the JP 233 dispensers. Those and the Jaguars had some great saucy nose art as well.

GM, $40 is not bad for the Enigma. I may have to hunt one down later on this summer once my finances are in better shape.
