There is no way - I have over 5000, and have a garage full of boxes, plus a 53' semi trailer next to the house FULL.  I am having to call BS on this one.

Please, show us some pics!

For me, the hobby shop is my stash.  When I complete a build, I then go to the hobby shop (or ebay) and find a new kit for my next project.  I really have no desire to collect the kits and have them sit in a closet.  That's just me though, I realize I'm in the minority!

I couldn't work like that. For me having a stash isn't about bragging rights but about haveing a good selection of kits to choose from. Plus, having a stash means i can check out the kit before i start, i can work out what AM i need and as a diorama builder, i like to plan well ahead so i have everything i need.

You make a very valid point Bish and one detail I did not add in my post. I like to open my closet and choose my next project which is extremely difficult because they all interest me. I can slowly build up the am parts as I grab them on sale making it easier on the wallet.

Unfortunately, most of what the 2 or 3 hobby shops in my area carry do not interest me and even if one catches my eye, I wind up ordering it online because the price will be substantially less. I would like to support the local guy but it hurts paying more for something I can get online for $20-$30 less and sometimes with free shipping.

I tend to buy 2 or 3 kits and then not buy any more until i have the AM for those. At one time i found i was spending all my budget for the 10 or so kits i wanted AM for. And i am now very selective in what i buys. There are only so many 109's and Tiger one can have, even for a Germaholic like me. I concentrate now on my 3 long term projects and now and again somthing which takes my fancy whether it be subject or markings.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

I'm in the minority, I don't have a stash.  Well, I have 3 in my closet waiting to be built, but that's it.  They were given to me the past couple of years as Christmas gifts.

I couldn't work like that. For me having a stash isn't about bragging rights but about haveing a good selection of kits to choose from. I am very particular in what i build, i have to have an interest in the kit i am doing. I couldn't just go into the hobby shop and pick one because there is a good chance they won't have anything i fancy doing. Plus, having a stash means i can check out the kit before i start, i can work out what AM i need and as a diorama builder, i like to plan well ahead so i have everything i need.

I have always heard that it is not how big you stash is but how well you build it. Then again I have neber had any complaints about it from the Mrs.

About 30, mostly 1/35 armor with about 3 Japanese planes for good measure. Right now I'm selling off some of my more involved Dragon armor kits with tons of roadwheels and small tracks. I'm just not building and my eyes are getting older. Keeping all of my Tamiya kits for simplicity sake.

waikong
100+ and counting. All 1/48 scale, planes armor, even a few cars, lunar module, and a pt boat. Eyeing that new 1/48 trumpeter sub , someone stop me.

That Trumpy sub is huge and is super detailed. I beleive it has crew figures and a full interior.

Wow, guess I'm in the middle then, probably somewhere about 250 I'd guesstimate...

I'm purged out some stuff like most of my German stuff but still I seem to keep adding five for everything I give away or donate to our club raffle. I'm down to mostly American and Japanese Second World War subjects. I'd never thought we had so much hardware between us.

You my friend, are rare in the modeling world. Out of curiousity, have you ever been to a model show? All modelers I know buy a few kits at every show. At 4-5 shows a year, they build a stash in no time. If you can go to a show and not buy a model (or just one model) then you must have the discipline of a zen monk. Smile

Vendor tables at shows are the best opportunity to pick up kits really cheap, no tax or shipping charges.

Some of these stashes look like small hobby stores. Wink

I think at 200, you pretty much are a hobby store.  At 1,000, you are a warehouse, and at 5,000, you are a distributor!

Dwayne or Dman or just D.  All comments are welcome on my builds.
