You got it.  :)

I've been wanting to do that kit again. I wouldn't mind giving you some ideas.

I'm going to try IMGUR.  There's a nice tutorial over on Hyperscale from last Friday.  Looks easy enough and you don't have to set up an account if don't want to.

Hey Mike Brindos--I am building the 1/48 Monogram Zero for the Monogram Mafia IV group build.  Looks like a blank canvas for your talent. Reasonable shape and barren interior.  If the pic thing works for me keep an eye out and throw me suggestions!

Those two statements show how much they don't know abour the business they are in. Both statements are false.

Other smaller businesses have figuered out how to do this without pissing off their users. They could have also.

Or, and here is where I'll get laughed at by those who know...

They bought the bandwidth for other uses.

The CEO's explanation is pure doo doo. First the spin- "We are the only site to offer UNLIMITED storage".

Then- "We are only doing this because everyone else is". That one I get, but what a PR fiasco.

Right... I've been grabbing my marbles a few at a time. Downloading my albums via zip files is anything but zippy... maybe because their site is swamped by folks doing the same thing, who knows.

My gut tells me this move is a good way to commit business suicide, shut down the site, and get a business loss tax write off... but that is pure speculation on my part.

Here's what I gather will happen. I read through their terms, which as those things go was pretty insincere.

Anyone can keep a free account with a data limit of 2GB. My most current data load was about 375 GB. They don't seem to be able to automatically upgrade you, but watch for any "confirmation of plan" slipperyness.

They also don't seem to have a clear deadline, but I've got to assume it will be very soon.

They will delete data to reduce it to the limit of your plan, in the case of a free account down to 2 GB. The argument is that yes you get to keep a small plan, but any excess data constitutes a violation by you (us) of the Terms. So if you don't want that to happen, get it off NOW.

There's no possibility of suing these guys. The Terms include a Waiver of Trial. That means arbitration, and unless you live in New York, that means travel and expenses.

And they've got good lawyers who have already figured this out.

Photobucket, if you are listening, it would do you a lot of positive PR to recognize that 75% of your users (the portion that you identify as free users who use your site for 3rd party posting, otherwise known as the non-paying leeches who are wrecking your business models) could be helped with some simple steps regarding how and when to take their marbles and go home. I see a little bit more of that on the site today, so i assume you are getting the message.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

It's not all that hard to delete them. Simply check each image on the page and delete. You can do them by page. That's how I did it.

Oh yeah, I fired off a note with plenty of colorful language telling them why I'm closing the account. I even threatened to sue them if they hold any stray pics of mine hostage because they're my property not theirs.

I was thinking of leaving them there also but I spent the time uploading them and wasn't going to be able to post them if needed.  I dont need them saying that thoses photos are now theirs so I deleted them.  Closed out the account and was able to tell them how things have changed for the worse in the past 11 years on their site and that I would never use them again.

I had no problem downloading 2300 photos in about 5 minutes. They were all in one album fortunately, as their feature only allows one album to be downloaded at a time.

But all 375 G are now in a zip file on my server.

Going through them, tossing a lot. All on my time.

I'm not going to bother to delete them or close my account. Their problem, not mine.

Took me a while with the locking up and popup ads but I finally downloaded all of my photos and closed my account.

Was a member there since 2006 and people use these sites for third party image hosting. Wanting us to pay $400 all of a sudden so that we can do what we have been doing pretty much ranks up there with extortion.

Only problem with PhotoSuckIt now is I can't download my photo's to my phone or tablet. When I click to open a photo in their app I get that same logo saying to upgrade. Over 800 photo's possibly lost forever. No way I'd pay $400 to show photo's I don't make money from.

On another note, trying use.com. Hopefully my test pic shows when I hit submit.

I uploaded a few pics to Google Photos, and got one into a post on the FineScale forums, but tried it in another forum I frequent- no luck there.  So it is a mixed bag.

I've had a Flickr account for my aviation and car photography for some time now. I'm about to quit the account though. I try to stay logged in all the time but sometimes I get logged out I have to reset my password. This effort can take days because with Yahoo, resetting a password, well, is just aweful. There is no simple, straight ahead way to reset the password. They make it as tough as they can, I guess to teach some sort of lesson. I guess I have a Yahoo user name somewhere I can use to get in. Just gotta find it.

I do have some great pictures there if anyone wants to see them. No password needed.

My Photobucket is a bust also. So many pop-ups, slugish in performance. I no longer bother with the site. Use.com works well enough for me.

Update: Through a series of events I have learned that how I post my images from Flickr may cause some peoples browsers to try and download them by when they click on them. This may be specific to people that use Firefox as a browser. This lead me to search out a better process.

In doing that I have found a nice step by step outline. Posted below are three different ways to accomplish things specific to what you may be trying to do. For me, and for most people here, the second one is the way to go. This is the "Get a direct URL to it."  For people that want their images to not have all the URL data posted with the image, this is the one. I have tested this process and this has fixed the download issue. My previous posts in this thread should be ignored for the most part. Some of the information may be useful but the correct way to go about this seems to be as laid out below. Hopefully, this may help to clear up any confusion that I caused as I tried to learn this. And maybe, it will help people looking to make the switch.

As a side note. I have been using Flickr for two months now and it works like a dream. There are so many things that I like about it in comparison to PB. The most of which is that it is fast. I will stop there.

THE END.

Google Images has a hosting service. Images look great and it's integrated with my iPhone camera seamlessly. However then I realize the images are not showing on online forums so I have to figure out why. Wrong sharing settings?

Why not try Flickr. You can get free accounts. Unless I am doing something wrong on my end I can never see large pictures of what you guys are posting on the sites you are using.

A number Army Viet Nam scans from hundreds yet to be done:

Do you need to specifically size it in the fsm dropdown box?  When I use PB I leave those boxes blank, and it automatically sizes it fine.

Sorry Don, I misread this. The answer is no for the FSM dropdown. You do not have to specify. You leave them blank.

I should also mention that once you have folders setup, you can start from there as well, and not just the photostream mode.

I don't even know what photostream mode is.  That is one thing I don't like about Flickr. I find it harder to use, don't understand how to do things.

Hi Don--of course you need to work with what you are comfortable with. Just for conversation sake though, when you get to the main page, there are a series of selections that you can choose from. They are located just below where your name is displayed. From left to right they are: Camera Roll, Photostream, Albums, Favorites, Groups, and so on. What I meant by Photostream mode is to click on the Photostream selector.  When you do that, the images that you have already loaded will be displayed. From there you can click on the image that you want to post, or even add images by clicking on the cloud icon way at the top, next to the bell icon.

Anyway--thats that.

Don--yes you have to select the size. Once you figure out what size looks good to you, just keep using the same size.  It is not an issue. Actually, after you select it once, it defaults to the previous size used until you change it. (Updated below with the next post. I made an error. See the correction.)

A couple of things to note. I prefer to use my first method only because it does not show the URL data below the image. It is much cleaner looking to me but as noted by others here, they will use and modify them. It depends on your preference. I guess you can eliminate some of that but I have not completely figured out what in the URL has to stay, and what can go. Others here might be able to help with that, if this is a concern. This can be confusing--so here is a visual of how to do the second method.

1.  While in photostream mode, click on the photo that you want to post. It will open the photo as shown below.

2. Click on the curved arrow shown in the image.

3. After clicking on the curved arrow, this comes up. Select the image size.

4. Make sure BBCode is selected.

5. Right click on the URL address.

6. Click on copy.

7. Go to the FSM interface and click on insert.  (You can also use the insert icon in the toolbar.)

8. Click on insert image.

9. Paste the link into the source box and click on OK.

10. This is how it looks when you paste the URL.

11.  Click on the submit button when you are ready to submit the post. Then the image magically appears. Notice the URL data below the image. You can edit some of that out before you hit the ok button in step 9.

Don, did you try it the way that I outlined?

Don't give up. It works great once you figure it out.

I think so. I used method 2 from your 3/19 post.

One question- about the sizing.  Do you need to specifically size it in the fsm dropdown box?  When I use PB I leave those boxes blank, and it automatically sizes it fine.

Tried Flickr again.  Still won't work.  Right clicked, selected save link as, pasted that in image window box.  Nothing!

Went back to Photobucket. It works, even if glacially slow :-(

I was trying to post a pic from Photobucket yesterday and gave it up, slow downloads and it always lock up. Seen the tips here about Flicker and tried that, had a few problems getting started as several here did but think I got it figured out now. Thanks for the tips! Big Smile

I was able to get my Ipad to work with Flickr, but I did so by uninstalling the Flickr app. As I suspected, the app was limiting my access to some of the functions that the web access offers. For mobile users, this is something to consider if you get stymied. It may just depend on what platform it is that you are using.

I am happy. By moving to Flickr I have stopped the onslaught of adware, and now, I can even use my Ipad again. I couldn't when using PB.

Bye bye Photobucket. As Arnold Schwarzenegger would say... Consider this a divorce.
