Omni Yomni

Where did you find a 1/48 Buccaneer?

Hannants.  The British Pound is taking a beating versus USD.  The box is bazongas huge though, I'd guess similar to the Vulcan.  So postage was kinda expensive, about 30%.

Nice Stik!  I wonder how to handle seams with plated kits.  I remember some of those when I was a kid, along with the battle damaged kits.

John I know that you have to sand of the plating on the glueing surfaces. But seam clean up. I'm thinking of possibly trying foil to cover those areas. Or some of the new fancy metallic paints after getting the seams smoothed out extremely well.

Congrads guys!!!

Ben: Love that '68 Firebird!!! And congrads on your first M4, they're like potato chips/crisps - once you have one you can't stop!

G: Cool, esp love the Leduc 022. It's such a weird plane- never knew anyone made a model of it.

It's October so time for some scary acquisitions!

Actually, the Buccaneer is only scary for its huge box!  But the other assortment of kits are most weird (Hungarian AA tank) and spooooooooky (Mach Poo LeDuc 022).  And the XB-48 book is to keep me up all night.  Stick out tongue

Spoooooooky.

Okay, quick discalimer - the Hungarian tanks are not mine.  They are for a friend.  Honest.

Tony and Drums, nice scores!

Drums, that M51 builds nice, but has a problem with the mantlet dust cover fit. New tracks would help, but are not a necessity.

Found this one on eBay last week for auction at about half off the best shop prices. And NOBODY else bid on it. Since the Thunderbirds started here at Luke AFB in 1953 flying these, it’s going to my Luke collection. Something of a new and old kit, as it is metal plated like the old Hawk F-84 that I built decades ago.

Wouldn't mind that neat little haul myself Ben; especially the all terrain vehicle with full interior. A WIP if I ever saw one. Wink

I think it is time for me to add to this string.

First update is not a model but something I am excited to share, a 1968 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400 convertible in 1/18 die-cast by ACME. With numerous impressive up scale details like both soft tops (up and down); nice door treatment (handles, door jams, locks, interior panels); opening trunk with detailed spare; floor mats with Pontiac logo's; Cloth seatbelts with PE buckles; detailed and readable hood tachometer; quality head and tail lights without ugly center posts; full under the hood details like plumbed brake booster, radiator hoses, plug wires, wired battery, plumbed window washer, fender bracing and detailed hood latch; underside fully detailed to include brake and fuel lines, etc.

Now it's model time, starting with these new additions. And I can't believe it either, I actually purchased some armor or military ground vehicles.

I've seen a build string on this one which was done very well and sparked my interest in building one myself:

Image

Believe it or not, over 50 years of modeling and I've never built a Sherman tank, got one now; even if it's an IDF Super Sherman. I may have to get metal individual links (?):

Image

To assist in my current 1/32 Arado Ar 196 build, I purchase these items:

Wonderful machined brass machine gun barrels:

More in route and will post an update on their arrival.

My last two pick-ups:

I picked up the Tony despite having the older Hasegawa kit in the stash.  Will build both at the same time eventually.  While I'd prefer to have a 1/48 Short Stirling, I'd always wanted to build one.  Looks to be a pretty good kit.

Yeah, I was going to ask you bout the Nautilus. It says some outrageous speed under water and another outrageous speed surface. The range is in lightyear's Confused. So question G, if it stays on the water and underwater then what's the deal with the lightyear distances? Does it go in space? And if so, why water?

For once Steve, I have no answer!  Surprise  I never really watched Nadia, so I'm just as much in the dark as you.  I just thought the mecha in the show was kinda neat, especially the bad guys' fish-like submarines.

A lot of fiction writers forget that water is unforgivably "draggy", and so they give their creations unrealistic performance figures.  That being said, the Soviet-era Alpha Class subs could allegedly reach something like 50+ knots underwater.  But they were as loud as a Disater Area concert going at that speed.  (See Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - the BBC TV series, not the terrible movie, for the Disater Area reference.)

Gamera,

Metal Skin Panic is a classcal Japanese mecha-anime story:

Boy (Koji) meets girl.  Girl goes abroad to college.  Boy meets mecha (which literally falls into his posession).  Girl returns and wants to meet at a high rise buiding.  Boy goes on joy ride in said mecha, inadvertently destroying a bath house, a street punk's car, and a convenience store.  Meanwhile, the army thinks a terrorist has stolen the Madox suit, so an overzealous Lt Kilgore takes to the streets of Tokyo in the Tarantula, a mini one-man tank that can climb stairs(!).  The lieutanant has a score to settle with the Madox, which bested him in an eariler demonstration fight, so he is only interested in destroying the suit.  In hot pursuit of Lt Kilgore and the Madox, Ellie (the development pilot of the Madox) takes the protoype suit Hammerhead in the hopes of stopping the two and averting massive civillian casualties.  Ellie finds the Madox first, but the lieutenant has ordered his men to open fire, damaging the Hammerhead.  It's now up to the Madox and Koji to defeat Kilgore in a high rise denoument.  Will Koji survive?  Can he defeat Kilgore and the Tarantula?  Will he make it out of his predicament so that he can meet his girl on time?

Watch the video.  It's worth it.  Silly 1980s mecha-action at its finest.
