I wasn't planning on building any heavy cruisers, but given the history of this ship and the price drop I got a great deal. Looking forward to building this one.

I also was on the lookout for a Bismark, but not the $90 price range so I waited. I found a guy on Ebay that had one below everyone else, plus 20% coupon and $5 shipping. SOLD!! Mangaged to get it for $70, not bad.

And finally, I managed to score this one out of Spain for $28 shipped. Not bad. Been looking for a cheap Blackhawk, now I've got one.

Purchased from a fellow modeler, on my trying to find a meyers manx kit in the UK. My purchase after discussion included the Subaru and the Corvette needing tyres!

During the Manx build I'm taking templates for a scratchbuilt  beach buggy project.

My Latest Acquisition?

Well, lets see, I was sitting here reading all my E-Mails this A.M.. it was about five Thirty A.M. Of All things My Doorbell rings, waking up the late sleepers and all the Dogs. What a Cacophony! Well, Nuttin! Okay everyone settles down and here I am sitting correcting a book's first draft for a friend. Editing too!

The bell rings again. Well, only one person is still sleeping. Didn't seem to disturb them. What am I greeted by. A friend from down the street. He had thought about a question I had asked about a week ago about trading something in Models. He does them and Trains too! I have a 1/200 Arizona up for trade. Well, he said no Deal! here! And handed me a lightly started 1/350 Tamiya U.S.S. Missouri. A kit I just haven't been able to afford no matter what!

Now it had the whole gamut of extra parts(P.E. and such, No Wood decks though)(For which I am double thankful(I just don't like them!) I would've been suoer appreciative even if they were includedI My Gosh. That kit ain't cheap! I am certainly going to enjoy this! The modeling Community is one of the Best things to happen to the World, for sure!!

Now that is a piece of luck!

One more.  BPK (Big Plane Kits) 1/144 Bombardier crj900.  This is my first BPK kit and it looks like a nice kit.  Fine molds, little flash, PE fret but no locating pins.

Thanks,

John

Been on the hunt for one of these for some time now. They are pretty easy to find but the prices people want are nuts. This one turned up on Ebay for less than $50 so I nabbed it. He had cut the price because its missing the pitot tube. I think I can handle that. I also ordered the PE exhaust nozzles and exterior detail kit. I know this kit is known to be a bit of a pig, but it's the only game in town.

BK

Interested to see how this one goes. Yeah, given the age and the fact this is AMT, you probably got your work cut out for you. But some things are worth the effort. Hope your AM goodies help it out.

Nice score BK.  I hope that one goes on top of the pile - love to see a build thread on that.

Picked up a couple ebay buys.  I can build this cannon here :) without all my gear from storage

Been wanting this for a while - bought it on ebay and then saw Italeri is re-releasing with cool SAR markings.  Got a good price so there you go.  Big fan of these local commuter lines.

Thanks,

John

I have pics of the only one left. I was able to stand under it at the Wright Patterson AFB in the late 80's. It is huge. It stands so tall off the ground and the intakes are massive. She is a very cool bird indeed.

BK

Yeah, standing under the nose and looking into that gaping maw of an intake made me gasp like a little kid seeing a Tyrannosaurus Rex skeleton for the first time.  When I saw her around 2007, her skin looked like a house that was painted over several times

I understand that the X-Planes have been moved into the museum proper, and thus no more poking around close around and under the planes.  Crying

I think it strange that no aftermarket decal exists for this kit, as AMT decals are not the greatest, and the kit is missing a ton of data stencils.  And Eduard has steered clear of this kit as well as the XB-35/YB-49.

Still, the XB-70 is a magnificent beast.

Rip it open and build it Greg!

That may just be the best advice, and I might be leaning in that direction.

I did that kit and a few others seen in this old pic And if they ever release Badman I'm all over it

RE the pic, I see the Paddy Wagon, Red Baron and Beer Wagon. Have to look up the other one. I recieved an email from Tom Daniel, he stated that Atlantis now owns a lot of the old Monogram/Revell tooling. Maybe one day Badman will re-release.

(not sure why pic wasn't included in the quote above. Another odd site quirk, maybe?)

Omni, Aggie, Tony, Drums, Real G, you guys have been grabbing some great kits!   Of course some of you seem to be finding more at once than others.... Wink

These came in the mail yesterday. I had ordered this decal set for my F-14D kit that I will be converting to an F-14B, I just needed the markings to get the last items needed.

Congrads Greg!!!

As a non-collector I don't really have an opinion. But some people will buy two, one to keep in the un-opened perfect state and the second to open and build.

Thanks, Cliff!

I'd thought about that. This kit seems to be hard to find, and though the price seemed reasonable to me, a sane person probably wouldn't think so, so a second kit isn't easy or cheap. Stick out tongue

Hey Tom! First off, thanks for your reply and I'm glad I've found a friend in a fellow Tom Daniel fan!

You probably know this, but you can buy the new release funny cars on his website for a very reasonable price and get them signed by him.

I'm sure I've avoided eBay for the same reasons as you all of these years, but my obsession seems to have won out.

Oh, you might want to check out J-Bar hobbies. They are out of MI and I just bought two original Monogram TD kits from them as well. Both the eBay order and J-Bar order got to me in about 3 business days very well-packaged.

Re your advice, I'm a collector until I decide to build one, hence my dilemna! Yes

First off Greg, CONGRATS on scoring that vintage Red Baron kit.  That's the one kit that has eluded me.  I started my Tom Daniels "Obession" several years ago because his kits were such a big part of modeling in my youth.  I don't shop on ebay so my only resource are the vendors at local contests and this kit has been my "White Whale".  I'm also obessed with Deals Wheels kits.  With the recent 1/32 Tom Daniels funny car releases by Atlantis I can only hope that they'll release more of his kits.  Now regarding the mystery of your kit, I would ask you, "Are you a model builder or a model collector?"  If your intentions are to build it, then go ahead and open it and enjoy that sweet smell of vintage styrene.  If you're a collector, then since the seller had a favorable rating, I'd keep it in the shrink wrap, put it on display, and sit back and enjoy the waves of nostalgia.  Either way, I think that it's a "Win-Win" for you.

So many cool hauls (and some cool BIG ones!)....hard to comment. Nice ones, guys. Yes

I wanted to share this one. I've been on a Tom Daniel kick and actually ordered a couple of signed rebooted Atlantis kits from his website www.tomdaniel.com

I started wanting a 1/24 Red Baron and found this one on eBay. It is my first ever ebay purchase. Really.

And this comes with a question to you more experienced eBay customers. The box is immaculate as is the shrink wrap. The seller is 100% rated. However, I have heard of such things being re-shrink wrapped.

So my question is even though I'd prefer to keep this in the shrink wrap, I'll never really know what is inside unless I look.

Anyone care to opine?

I hear you and had a p-40b, Hawker Hunter and a Gloster Javelin in the cart and balked seeing how most of my gear is in storage during our move transition.  I'll wait until I get my shop up and running early next year.

I have a few of the P-40Bs and a Javelin in the stash. All good kits. The Javelin has been on hold until I can figure out how to do an all black cockpit up right.

Where did you find a 1/48 Buccaneer?

Hannants.  The British Pound is taking a beating versus USD.  The box is bazongas huge though, I'd guess similar to the Vulcan.  So postage was kinda expensive, about 30%.

Might be worth it for a good hard to find kit. Does this one look to be any better than the 1/72 airfix bucc? I've done that one, wasn't bad but wasn't that good either. Never seen one in 1/48 till now.

Word on the street is that it is a good kit, miles ahead of the older one.  Airfix is getting better all the time, but they are not Tamiya yet.  I lurk over on Britmodeller to collect information, and the impression I get is that it is good, but not perfect.  it's a big airplane and has a most singular shape, and the finished kits I have seen look fabulous.

I'm more of a RAF man, and like the low level wraparound camo scheme.  But I picked this kit up because I like the Bucc, and thought it would be cool looking all folded up.

Those schemes are cool. Nice to hear about a new Bucc kit; agree that Airfix has really stepped up their game. I've done some of their newer kits and they were generally pretty good, hopefully this one will be in the same league with those.

I want that buccaneer and the new 1/48 Lynx boxing.  Airfix wants 30 pounds for shipping so I'll wait til they get here.  If  you spend over 200 pounds you get free shipping to the US but....

That just gives an excuse to load up, though. It's a win-win!
