Bish

Joe, i can't quite read the box, but that Lindbergh kit, are those Civil War ships?

I regret the poor quality of my pics. Yes, they are indeed Civil War ships. It even comes with the water base to paint up and display them on.

Nothing to do with the pic mate, more my eyesight. It will be nice seeing them built, are you planning on putting them into Steves US ships GB.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Well..now..hmmm...that is definitely food for thought. I had some others and yet, never considered that one. Thanks for planting the seed Bish.

Joe, hate to be 'that guy' and point it out but frankly I don't think I'd use the water base since the two ships aren't the same scale. The CSS Virginia was much larger than the USS Monitor since she was built on the hull of the scuttled USS Merrimac which was a frigate- aka an ocean going warship. The Monitor was built at a smaller and more practical size as a river going gunboat. For some bizarre reason Lindberg molded both almost the same size, it's like putting out a two ship set of a USN PT boat and a IJN destroyer and molding them the same size.

They're decent models, I built them back in college for a term paper I did on ironclads (got an 100 on it too, I think my professor liked the models). They have some issues here and there but to get an accurate model you'd have to spend a lot more on a resin kit.

Archangel Shooter

Just ordered my last 2018 model accessories.

These guys just might motivate me to get back to work on the Trumper Intruder.

Oh wow those are some nice figures!!!

Are they 3D printed or did the company just use the CAD look drawing to better show off the detail?

Some good news, that particular box of the Lindberg Monitor and  "Merrimac" that was shown in a previous post does have both ships in the same scale, 1/245.  It was the original Pyro molds that Lindberg issued once that were in the different scales.  Lindbergs own mold had both models in the same scale in a Diorama setting.

Nino: Thank you! I stand corrected!

I'm guessing the set I built were the old Pyro kits then? Hmmmmm..... In any case please disregard what I said Joe.

I debated commenting, guess I should have waited for someone from the ships forum to come in. Embarrassed Thanks again Nino.

BTW: Nice battleship kit. Love all the new stuff coming out in 1/350th, I have to try building a ship one day.

Joe, you have some time yet to think about the GB. It starts on Aug 1st. It would be nice to have you onboard.

Gam, that's what I'm trying to get you guys to do. Wink

Since I haven’t entered my latest acquisitions for a few weeks, here I go...

At December’s IPMS annual fund raising distressed kit auction, I picked up several items for not much money... the first was a bundled batch of WWII German tank crew figures. I only wanted the Tristar set, I already had the Tamiya set, and did not mind getting the ICM set...

Then I got a superb deal on this little goody....

And another bundled pair, I only wanted one, but they were sold as a set... limited run kit, so “modeling skills required”....

and lastly, a bagged kit of the Tamiya Sdkfz.250 Greif... instructions and decals destroyed by water damage, and some parts of the kit having mold... it’s now airing out catching sunlight which has destroyed much of the mold, and will soon be getting a bleach/water bath to finish the task...

All these for under $20...

and lastly, my last purchase off eBay for the year was waiting for me when I came home after work yesterday, “Stalin’s Sledgehammer”...

and not a kit, but... for mixing paint in those pesky dropper bottles... it’s sold as a nail polish shaker, but has use for us modelers as well...

Nice score Stick, That's a lot of guys. You could have a tanker convention.

Now it's after Christmas and I received a few under my tree, I also bought myself a couple.

Under the tree from my Secret Santas

The Airfix Blenheim, Revell Typhoon and Revel MiG 29.

I got these for myself.

ANd when I got back to Dallas, this was waiting for me. I actually got it a couple of weeks before I thought I would. I also received an overtree set along with some Polish decals.

Oh those are cool guys!

SP: Even if you don't like the molding on some of the figures they're great for robbing arms and legs for different poses for the better figures.

Steve: Wow, that's some nice aircraft there!

And count me in on the USN GB, I've got a couple of subjects that would work.

MC, you have a nice haul there yourself. I’m really liking the Airfix Blenheim and the F-35B.

Gamera, yes, having that extra set of Tamiya panzer crew is perfect for spare parts purposes. I thought I was gonna have to do some head swapping on the Tri Star figures, but it came with extra heads and such...

Bish, me too! I am a big fan of the Tri Star figure sets... great stuff! Damn shame that they went out of business.

Thanks Gamera and Nino for your input on this kit. I really had not given any thought to the scale of this kit as I got this cheap on auction and it was mainly for the shear novelty of the kit.

Gamera: Your observation was understandable and, by all means , welcome. Your observance to this is what led to the overall resolution from Nino and that's what matters.

Nino: Thank You for the in depth clarification on not only the scale of this kit but also on the very interesting history associated with it.. Really great stuff.

Thanks Gents. Very much appreciated.

And now for something completely different - "Red Spectacles" from the movie "Jin Roh".  Stormtroopers from a dystopian Japan!

The kit is in 1/20 scale and if you like it, you're in luck - there's three to a box!  I parted out two to give to friends who each have different build/paint styles.  We'll see how each one turns out!

Hmmm Stik, yes there is a strong resemblance.  But the nod goes to the Jin Roh guys as they appeared in a late 1980s live action movie.  There is also an animated as well as a recent Korean live action film.

Nothing against the Deathtroopers, as I quite like their design.

For Christmas the wife got me these paint sets....Outstanding!

These were some of my 2018 Acquisitions.

I found an excellent King Tiger crew set to sit inside the tank, will be ordering it prior to starting on the model.

I bought this one the other week to go with a 1/32 pin up like figure. Which I started for the German armor GB.

Also picked up some 1/6th scale figures.

These two were my last official 2018 purchases and waiting on them to come in the mail.

Now to find the time to build them all and everything else in the stash.

Real G: Oh wow those figures look awesome! Maybe you could have them fighting the Kappa you posted a few months back (yeah not the same scale but he could be a GIANT Kappa!)

John: Cool!

Archangel: Nice haul, I can never have enough paint and those look like great sets. Love those figures!!! Hope you'll post the large ones when they're finished (and hope the mods don't have an issue with them!)

Hi Keavdog...The figures are by Reedoak Rubber Composites out of France. I first learn of them from a modeler on his Scale Navy FB site. That guy just finished scratch building a 1/32 S-3 Viking.  The figures come in 1/32, 1/35 and 1/48th. I ordered the 1/32 figures to go with my Trumperter A-6. There's also figures of Navy aircraft handlers and Army/Navy helicopter crews which looks so real too. Check it out.

That is an amazing load of fun you've acquired there Archangel Shooter. I especially like the King Tiger and accompanying interior set. That ought to be one premier build.
