Hi Beth... These are the closest to the Metro people, I agree. I noticed nga that Special Toys isn't in Greenhills anymore. I was forced to go to the Alimall branch tuloy... and they've moed pala also t the first floor! Honestly, it's a bigger place than the last one and better located. I just hope the selection gets bigger... it'll be better for all of us. Big Smile [:D]

I agree with you that some of the STC stuf are a little pricey but... well... wala naman kasi sa ibang stores yung medyo mahal na stuff nila eh. As consumers, wala na tayong magagawa dun. I guess ganun lang talaga ang negosyo.

Lahat naman ng stores have stuff that are a little higher than the others. Lil's have some stuff also na medyo mahal but I still buy them kasi I live nearby (ganun din kasi ang cost if I have to travel to Cubao). Also with Natalie's and Roel's shops. I noticed that they have their own specialties kasi eh.

Sa STC, maraming 1/6 dragon figures at Gundams. Sa Lil's - traditional kits and RCs. Sa JMN, hard-to-find kits and dio stuff as with Toys and Hobbies.

I guess it just boils down to us knowing how to get the best deal for our money - scarce as it is... my two-cents worth.

Ok i only know of three shops that i frquently visit.
1, Lil's Futaba - its one of the largest in stock and the prices is more reasonable but i agree their selection is almost limited to Tamiya, Italeri,Academy and Trumpeter kits expanding their selection would be better and bigger discounts.

2. JMNs Hobby Square- indeed its a small shop and the selection is even smaller but, what i like about this shop is that you can order kits and other products in their mail order catalog and still not that pricey.

3. Special Toy Center-its the hobby shop with the most selection and with the most branches in metro manila. unfortunately, its two primary drawback is its tendency to overprice kits and base from this tread its noted for some poor costumer relations.

hey! its my opinion guys the choice is yours.Tongue [:P]

Kumusta Ka people! My name is Tom Young and I was browsing through the various forum topics and noticed the message title. I am not Filipino but I was stationed in the Phillippines at Camp O'Donnell with the USAF back in 1976 - 1978. My wife is Filipino and is from Gubat, Sorsogon in the Bicol region. I am getting back into the model plane building hobby after a LONG break and thought I'd say Hi to my fellow modelers in the P.I. See you all in the threads.

Welcome to the board Tom. I always pass Camp O' Donnell on my way to my wife's ancestral home. I'm glad you're getting back to modeling. I myself have just gotten back (about 4 years ago). I stopped for a very long time and I had a tough time "getting back into the saddle"... Ciao!

Heto, Emjae... hirap sa trabaho... nakakainggit kung minsan yung mga entrepreneurs na may control over their time... Oh well...

I've been settling into a new position kasi in my job. I've been busy making sure an ISO certification project is going on-track. Tough job.

I have a Heavy Arms Custom sitting on my work table still in pre-shade mode for almost two months! All the rest of the in-process models I stuffed in their individual boxes na muna. I don't want a repeat of my Sherman fiasco to happen again (I accidentally lost the 75mm gun barrel (stupid no?) I finally found it only after I had to custom-make the barrel at a friend's machine shop. Haaay... Sad [:(]

Glad to see the old guys are still here... the board's a little slow nowadays but at least it's still here.

See you guys around!

You just made me feel sooo sad... Boohoo [BH]Boohoo [BH]Boohoo [BH]

The Mirage was my favorite car and I had to sell it... Now I see you making one that looks almost exactly like mine (including the skirts and spoilers)... except mine was red and the scale was 1:1 Big Smile [:D]

Hello guys,

I would like to announce that Academy Models here in the Philippines has launched a modeling competition entitled Academy Storm. It is a two-day affair to be hosted by the IPMS/Manila and be held on June 18 and 19 at the Ali Mall in Cubao.

The competition is open to all modelers. Prizes are at stake. Academy was generous enough to allow the use of other brands also. The main thrust of Academy and IPMS/Manila is to promote modeling in the Philippines and provide a venue for Filipino modelers to show-off their works, trade tips and techniques, renew old ties, and generally have fun. Entry forms are available at all Special Toys Center and Hobbitoi outlets.

I hope to see you all there!

Hello to my fellow Filipino modelers. Hope to share information with you out there. I already intoduced myself last April 20 over at the Introduce Yourself portion of this site so I just pasted the same text I posted there.

"Hello to everyone. I just signed up a few minutes ago and would love to exchange views and info about scale modeling. My first love as a kid was model aircraft but my true love turned to automobiles. I used to be active in modeling as much as I could back then but the realities of growing up and finishing school forced me into early semi-retirement. I quickly came out of my semi-retirement but my phases of activity have sadly been sporadic. I also signed up with Scale Auto Magazine last April 5 but I haven't introduced myself there yet. I plan to make a comeback (the nth one) and really make up for lost time. I've unintentionally accumulated at least seven 1/24" and 1/25" kits in various stages of assembly the past years though most of them are still in the box with the parts still attached to the runners.in their protective bags. I hope I could get to eventually finish them in time."

Hello nightcrawler,

Welcome to the forum. There are a people here who are doing what you're doing, cars.

Actually, I heard there's a club in the Philippines (Metro Manila, specifically) called Motormodelers. I think the group is headed by Jay Tizon and Bob Gatan. I think they meet regulary (I'm not too sure). If you want, I can try to get in touch with them if you have need of tips or wish to exchange ideas. These people have been in the modeling hobby most of their lives (that means they're a little "mature" hehehe...) and they are very good at what they do. Let me know. I'll connect you to them. Are you in the Philippines?

Jun

Hello night_crawler welcome to FSM. Are you also a car modeller? I also frequent the Scale Auto Magazine's messageboard but they seem to touch more on classic and/or American cars. I'm more of a fan of the JDM (Japanese Domestic Market) automobiles so I hang out more in the Automotive Forums messageboard.

Here's a link:

There's quite a handful of active Filipino automobile modelers based overseas there too.

Nice to meet you here in FSM and goodluck on your comeback to the hobby.

Thanks a lot for the welcome and the info. I'm a car modeler though my interest ranges from American muscle cars/performance cars to exotic performance/racing models. Btw sorry for the blank post earlier, slip of the mouse.
