This is interesting reading about what people do outside of modeling. Very diverse group of people. Smile [:)]

I've been collecting fat cells recently, WELL, mom always said pick something and be good at it, lol. No really I enjoy collecting sports cards and playing my guitars (have 7 of them) and the wife is about out of her head over that deal.
that which doesn't make us irate or irritated, has probably been thrown against the wall.

I have never played the Scarred Lands. Right now we are running Greyhawk and using 2nd edition with modifications to some 3d edition, the reason being that I have been collecting my rulebooks since the late 80s and early 90s. We have also done some Forgotten Realms and played very little in Ravenloft. Ravenloft tends to be hard on a party though and also takes a little enthusiasm away fromt the players when they keep dropping characters. Not enough balance in that world.

I've been playing since first edition and I have spent most of my best playing times in Forgotten Realms. I really like the new D20 system and what the open gaming license has to offer. I must admit that their recent release of the 3.5 core books made me more than a little mad. It seems like they are just trying to boost their profits. I have also played about 2 dozen other role playing games over the decades and I have a soft spot for Traveller, The Morrow Project, The Fantasy Trip, and Ruins Quest. Hey feel free to email me via the link below so as to not tie up the modeling forum. Wink [;)]

Besides keeping up with 5 gandchildren and all that entails and modeling, i enjoy computer gaming. Since i am not quick enough for action games i tend to lean towards military strat. The two i am spending the most time with are "Western Front" and "Shogun" I find they stretch the mind which for me is relaxing. Also really enjoy flight sims. Most of my flying lately is Janes f-15 for my agressive side and ms flight sim for cross countries.

I do the r/c truck thing. my wife bought me a traxxas t-maxx as a b-day /fathers day/ gift. I thought the truck would be cheaper than an r/c airplane until a run in at full throttle into a trailer tire showed me just how much stuff can break at one time. that of course was not the last high speed impact with various imoveable objects, but oh well. My dad in law and bro in law also have r/c trucks and we have a good time just burnin nitro all afternoon or chasing my nephews electric r/c around the parking lot.

I have several...

I collect 1:1 scale military vehicles...currently have two, a 1982 M35A2 and a 1943 M3 halftrack...

I also do WW2 reenacting (obviously), and I used to do guitar and lead vocals in several area bands, mostly rock and blues, but that came to a screeching halt when I got married. I've been in and out of several vintage airplanes (L-17 Navion and PT-17) but that too ended when my daughter was born.

So now I model, write, and run a ship modeling website when I'm not playing with the two Olive Drab monsters above....

Caveman,

I didn't realize there were any shows going on. Work tends to suck up most of my time. The few free moments I have are spent either modelling (not terribly well) or trying to pry myself away from SG-1, DS9, or whatever else is on Sky at the time. Got any details?

Well, photography has to be the main one. Out here on the East Coast, there's lots to photograph, as there's so much variety in the landscape.

I also grab the occasional collectable toy. One running thing I collect is all of the Transformers' Optimus Primes that were released in America. I'm only missing a few! Big Smile [:D]

My middle son has gotten into a heavy metal band; just had their first gig in a local bar last weekend. Nothing against Metallica or Ozzy, but it would be nice if his horizons broadened a little. Also, he was blown away by my old Sabbath records from the '70s, he didn't realize a lot of today's musicians go back that far.
Can you recommend a decent refrence he could read?
Thanks in advance,
Bruce

Sorry I took so long, Bruce, but this is the first time I'm using the computer since Thursday (I use library computers). Right now, I'm reading a brand-new book called "The Encyclopedia of Heavy Metal." It just came out a few weeks ago and I bought my copy over at a Barnes and Noble in Arizona. I forget who the author is (the book is in my car which is parked half a mile awaySmile [:)]), but it is a lavishly illustrated and fully detailed book about many of the acts that performed heavy metal, all the way from Deep Purple and Blue Cheer to Limp Bizkit and Slipknot. (Strangely enough, this book somehow left out Nirvana and one of my faves from the 70's, Foghat.) Another reference may be out of print by now but is worth searching for--"The Collector's Guide to Heavy Metal" by Martin Popoff (spelling?) The edition I own is a 1997 one and I don't know if the guy ever wrote a newer edition (I've not seen one), but it is a 500 page tome (with two columns of tiny type per page) full of Martin's reviews of virtually every heavy metal album ever made; he rates them on a scale of 0 to 10. He reviews albums from popular bands like Deep Purple, Metallica and Led Zeppelin all the way to completely obscure bands such as Picture, Quartz and Hawaii. (To all you Megadeth fans: Hawaii was Marty Friedman's first group!) These two books alone will keep your son busy for weeks!Smile [:)] By the way, what does your son play? I used to play drums in a couple of heavy metal bands years ago when I lived in Hawaii.

I always thought of myself having too many hobbies but reading some of these I may not have enough. I like model trains, radio control airplanes, radio control cars (but actually gave that one to my nephew), playing on the computer and the big one TV. I consider TV a hobby since I spend a lot of time watching it with the family.

I do a little bit in coins and stamps but not what I used to. I like to play hockey. (I play goalie) and I love to hunt, just went down the south end of the province to hunt mule deer yesterday, we were going to stay most of the week, but we filled out within the first hour. my dad got a pretty good one, and I got one that is just a little smaller than the minimum for the record book. so I'm happy, it was my first mule deer hunt, and I got one bigger than anything my dad has got.

Paul,
As far as fantasy goes, I have about 10,000 points of Chaos (Khorne) and my wife plays Gobbos. I also have a 2,000 Eldar 40k army. I would be honored to have a bit of a "Fatal 4-Way" with you, my wife, and David, if you're both interested. It could turn out to be an interesting battle. Say, 3,000 each in Fantasy?

I'm usualy over on the armor forum... this is my first time over here, so hello all!

I have TOO many hobbies! I enjoy photoing and driving old military vehicles (tanks), I enjoy my duty in the Guard and I like to pound out replicas of medieval harnesses (suits) of armor... I do one every few years or so, when the mood hits me. Add to this music, my family, kayaking and skiing and it's a wonder I have time to construct my models, but I sure enoy them also!

Tommy,
Reason I ask is my uncle used to race Pro-Stock in the 70's and 80's and then started building engines. He finally retired and is selling his shop this year. He was building engines for Jim Yates and some other folks. I've been thinking about building him a model of one of his old cars.

In the summer, I showed my car, until this fall, I sold everything off my car, now its back to looking like all the others. :( I am involved in local sat night Late Model stock car racing, drove a couple times last year in the pro stock 4 class. I repair vehicles on the side, tinker with auto mechanics, electronics, etc. I collect NASCAR die cast cars and other NASCAR stuff. I spend money (which is almost like a hobby)

MSomuk .......I have been an NHRA member since 1968. I bracket race when I am active. Its really just picking a 1/4 mile time and trying not to go faster than that time. There is always a car next to you and depending upon his time you or he may get a handicap start.
Tommy difficult things take time...the impossible, a little longer!
