Other than modeling...I fish of course, I enjoy boating, I just recently got out of competitive shooting but I still shoot for fun. I help my wife with her girlscout troop(thats more of a chore than a hobby but Im proud to say that troop 407 can outfish any other troop in our council!)...I read, I READ ALOT! I make castnets...something my grandfather taught me,I also tie flies(though I dont fly fish...much),I also build and wrap rods another thing my grandfather passed on to me. I race 1/10 Nitro RC cars, along with 1/8th scale buggies...not as much as I used to but about once a month. I also collect firearms...I "tinker" as my wife puts it! with my 73 Scamp(which I have nicknames Ma's GroundPounder)....the list goes on. Im constantly switching up what I do...I may like it all but certainly dont have time to do it all...So I'll do something until I get burnt out....then do something else for a bit.

I don't know that it's a hobby but I love riding my motorcycle. Great stress reliever! I also love fast cars. What can I say, I'm a speed freak. My friends tell me I should have been a NASCAR driver Tongue [:P]

I don't have any real collections other than my models.

Hmmm...I guess I have more interests than traditional Hobbies.
I like to tinker with Honda automobiles and drive, let's say, enthusiastically. I try to do as many, what is called, High Performance Driver Education days as possible during the year. The name is just for insurance reasons, but in reality it's just a bunch of car enthusiasts driving as fast a possible at 'race' circuits.
I also play golf. I played competitive golf in my younger years (high school and undergrad) but now just for fun.
I am a big fan of Formula One.
Listening to music is also a big part of my life.

I've collected a number of things over the years. I used to work full-time as a news photographer, and I have a pretty good collection of old cameras. It's mostly Kodak stuff. I don't really collect them that actively anymore, but every now and then I''ll get on eBay and hunt around a little.

I also have a small collection of pinball machines I've restored. NOT my wife's favorite thing, but she's been a really good sport about them so far!

David,
With all those knives, I hope you don't do anything to offend me, either! Big Smile [:D] Big Smile [:D]

As far as the hats go, I've always worn a ball cap when outside doing yard work, driving the family around, or just generally goofing off. About the only place I didn't (don't) wear them is inside buildings (church, restaurants, etc.). They are great for keeping the sun out of your eyes, and covering up the top of your head during "bad hair days".Smile [:)] Over time, I would see a hat that had a nice design on it and get it. Then friends would find out about the collection and contribute. Soon, I was getting them as presents. I would also pick up one as a souvenir from someplace I visited. And the collection grew. I also think there is a psychological redneck thing going on that I don't want to admit to. Tongue [:P] Anyway, it's just something to take up space in the closet.

And don't take offense at this question, but what's the deal with all the hats? What gets someone started with a collection like that? My stepfather collected them too. Not nearly as many, but he definitely had many, many more than your average person. I never understood it. But I know it's not much different than collecting anything else. I guess I've always just been curious about hat collections.

For myself, I've collected baseball cards, football cards, shot glasses and comic books off and on through the years. It comes and goes, but it's stuff I don't get rid of. I wouldn't call it collecting, but I also like to hang on to WWII and military related stuff. I'm also into miniature gaming (haven't played much lately). Recently I acquired some Diecast armor and I'm liking it (cause it's finished and looks good). Last but not least, I'll be honest...for awhile my wife and I were into collecting Cherished Teddy Bears (easily 100+). I think I was actually more into it than my wife was. Blush [:I]

Other than that, although I do it for a living, I still consider computer programming a hobby of mine too. Tinkering around with things I don't get to do at work. I also play quite a few computer games. My current favorites being Hearts of Iron, Europa Universalis, Galactic Civilizations, and Battlefield 1942: Desert Combat.

I fly R/C gliders, when I can keep from crashing them. As a result of researching for my WW2 Luftwaffe models, I have been gathering a small collection of hardbound books on the subject, so I'm reading them also, if that is considered a hobby.
Breezely - I know what you mean about Rainbow Six. Took me a year and a half to get through it. Let me know what you think about the ending.

Vampirella?! I used to love Vampirella! Oh well, not much time or money for too much extracurricular activity. Dabbled in photography for a little while-too expensive, collected football cards for a while-gave them away to a deserving youngster, trying to start reading again-on my 3rd try at Rainbow Six by Tom Clancy (I think I'll make it this time), mostly I spend time doing research for what I am anticipating is my triumphant return to modelling. Oh, I also collect ships patches(submarines of course).

2. My other "hobby" and real interest is music. I currently play French Horn in my church orchestra, but have played weddings, graduations, local university and civic concerts and have played in a couple brass ensembles. I studied for 2-3 years under the principal horn player for what is now the Virginia Symphony, and have been playing now for almost 20 years.

It's just my opinion, but I think model building is just another way to express the creative talents and abilities that God has given us.

You mean there is life outside of modeling? Actually I'm into gardening and like to work with Koi Ponds in my back yard, raise tropical fish (not in the Koi Pond), fly and build R/C aircraft (when I can find the time), collect old knives (have some really unusual stuff in this catagory). Used to collect old firearms but the wife got a little wiggy about that and having kids so I sold them to keep her happy. Collect old coins also - the rarest I have is a 1844 flying eagle cent. And I write also - that is my newest hobby. Looking over this I wonder how I find the time to work - oh, that's what I'm supposed to be doing now, doh!

Any hobbys other than modeling?

Just wondering what other hobbys everyone may have other than building models. I know alot of times building models can spark an interest in something else, or vise versa. I collect Vampirella comic books and the occasional "neat" collectible toy. I also do sketches once in a while. Mostly fantasy, but I have started doing WWII stough. I finished a Tiger I sketch a few months ago. Just wondering what everyone else does?
