FINISHED: SOA Chinook/my first helicoptor

Bish: the paper towel worked pretty good. It might not have the exact pattern seen inside Chinooks, it does give a nice impression of the quilting.

I spent a bit of time filling seams and rescribing panel lines because some of the major assemblies dont fit all that nice. There were gaps all around the bottom piece, and steps around the cockpit glass and the rotor tower sections. But now its all ready to paint!

Thats comiong along nicely OWL. I am still in 2 minds as to adding the quilting on my Chinook. But after seeing yours, i think i might just have to give it a go.

Wow, great job on the interior Owl! I still say you should make some friends in the Chemistry Department, see if you can get some time in one of their fume hoods!

Finally! I have the ramp area done!I also decided on using some paper towel to suggest the interior quilting. This means the interior is finished and its on to the exterior

I'll put together some photos comparing the two on the areas it will matter for a model.  Give me till tomorrow.

I wouldn't worry too much about it .... the one thing I realized after closing up my 1/35 hook's cockpit was that the back of the IP was pretty hard to see. There's not much light that gets back there anyway. As you can see by the pictures, as long as you just give them the idea there's wiring back there .... you're good to go.

Ish .... Can you give us an idea of the main differences of the F-model? I've seen them flying around here and I love the "new" color. Other than the new paint job, the only other thing I see are the engine screen covers. Just curious .... I'd like to make my next hook an F-model.

Owl, build it as you like, this is a hobby after all, but Model C is right, the wire bundles are out of scale.  They look like hydraulic tubing. 

Not to criticize without being helpful, in 72nd, the wire bundles are almost invisible.  I looked through my pics to illustrate, & I was kind of surprised to find  that I didn't have that detailed photos of the back of the IP, so I posted what I could find.  These are nearly brand new F models, but the wiring in question is near identical.

Looks pretty good, Owl. Some of the wiring is a little big for scale, but I like to use varying sizes anyway. I think it looks good.

One of the things I like to do for wiring is after painting, I'll take either black or white sewing thread and wrap it around a couple of wires that are close together. Tie it off and cut off the loose ends. These help replicate zip-ties used on the wiring of the real bird and add a little more detail to the wiring bundles. To keep the thread from coming loose, I'll sometimes add a small drop of CA glue to the knot.

Just some food for thought.... Lookin' good though. Keep 'er goin'!!!

Got a bit more done after classes on Friday...Pictures of the cockpit showed a mess of wires behind the IP, so I went about trying to suggest that. This is the first time I wired an IP, and it looks pretty neat. Nothing's been painted yet, but you can see glimpses of it thru one of the nose window panels:

Back home, my local Hobby Lobby carries it. If you have one nearby, check it out...

If the napkin isn't to you tastes and you're thinking of re-doing it, a thin layer of Milliput may do the trick. When I did my 1/35 Chinook, I used Milliput to do the quilted padding. You won't need as much as I used, but it's easy to work with and will do the trick. For the bulkhead, just lay down a thin layer followed by a light impression with some sort of mesh material ....

Just my 2 cents ....

Not worried about the pics.  It would be kind of hypocritical for me to complain since I posted them in the first place to help in situations exactly like this build.

 Owl - a twin-rotor for your first chopper.... You're braver than I am! Coming along nicely.

lsh47guy - I'm glad you mentioned it - I didn't know you made the photos, so sorry for not crediting you. But I'd like to thank you for posting them on the internet, when I finally come to building my own 1:72 Hook they will be a great help.

Owl - nice progress here. I was sorry to see what happened on this thread, but I'm glad you're movin' on. I don't quite understand your decision to leave the cockpit in gray, but I respect that decision, so please - keep 'em updates comin' and have a nice day

Nice job on the seats.  Don't forget to add the black non-skid onto the cabin floor.  Pawel posted some of my pics in his post on the first page of this thread, & in the last two, you can see the non-skid on the floor.
