The only nitpick that I have is the title, I think it should be " ich hatte kameraden". And no "einen" because then it would say "I had one comrads"

Glad you like it Borg. To adress your nitpick,: The title is from the first line of the poem/song "Der Gute Kamerad" which was a traditional song in german military funerals. :

Ich hatt' einen Kameraden,
Einen bessern findst du nit.
Die Trommel schlug zum Streite,
Er ging an meiner Seite
|: In gleichem Schritt und Tritt. :|

Eine Kugel kam geflogen:
Gilt's mir oder gilt sie dir?

I mixed up more dirt and spread it on top and around the graves.When its dry I will go over it with some pigments:)

I really like what you have done with this.  Very impressive.  I only have one questions - the first three graves - the 'older' ones - look kinda small-ish to me.  As if the hole would have been big enough only for a child's body, unless they were buried flexed, but I did not think the Germans did this.

Yo bbrowniii.thanks for your comment:) I imagined the older graves to be from `last year`,after they where dug,they was decorated with the white stones and the little dirt heap with flowers planted,and grass replanted around them. This actual dio is from my imagination,but we know for a fact that graves on cemetarys was decorated,made to look nice. This was sites that was to become the most holy places in the 3rd reich,so I am sure alot of effort was made to keep these sacred places beautiful. we have a german war cemetery close by where I live,and I can assure you,its the Bling of graveyards:)

Well, if they sang it like that, then you are right to use it as title. I now understand the " hatt' ", the "e" is replaced by a ' and is silent because of the singing.

I still don't understand the einen, but maybe that's because my german is a bit rusty, all that eine, einen, einem and du die das der.....it's difficult.

Ich hatt´einen Kameraden ( I had a [good] comrade ). The e from hatte will not be replaced with an a , it won´t be sung because the next word starts with e .

The word einen means one ( sometimes a specific one ) comrade or buddy.

And this song will be sung nowadays,too, everytime during the funeral ceremony; normally only supported by a drummer and a trumpeter
